Fighting Games Weekly | March 4-10 | The Empire Strikes Black

My issues with this whole EMP/VxG business are:

1. EMP is a joke. It doesn't matter if they sign Yipes, Dieminion, Justin, Daigo, and build an actual fucking castle because EMP will still be a joke. Triforce has ruined his reputation beyond repair. Maybe I'd feel differently if Triforce had taken the past few years to de-crazy himself because I think he does have good intentions at heart.

There's also the issue of having Triforce not just be a crazy dude who rants and raves on Joe's stream, but also being someone who's once again front-and-center in the FGC. I don't think it's a good thing that Triforce is in a position to represent the FGC to that extent.

I will say that I respect Triforce to a certain extent because he has a dream and he'll chase it even if it kills him.

2. VxG has been actively aggressive towards Evo. Doesn't matter to me if he could only do VxG in July or whatever, or that some people have some legitimate gripes with the way Evo has done things, you don't try to fuck with Evo. And you especially don't fuck with Evo if you're someone who has come out of nowhere and haven't earned trust.

This makes me think that they either don't know what the fuck they're doing, or they don't care. Same thing with getting Triforce so involved in things. They either don't care, or knew what kind of response EMP's involvement would illicit and are exploiting that on purpose.

3. Nothing tells me that VxG has the community's best intentions at heart. Something like an outsider coming in out of nowhere and throwing a bunch of money around has the potential to be very disruptive in a bad way. There are like a million little problems that this sort of thing can cause. It's apparent that they give a shit about making money for St Maarten, but it's not apparent that they give a shit about the community otherwise.

I don't blame Yipes and Dieminion and whoever else for following the money because I'd do the same exact thing. It's just disappointing that if they were gonna get paid, it had to happen under these circumstances.
Triforce said there'd be people like you.

THAT DANCING

You lost me at "you don't try to fuck with EVO." Thinking like that is bad for scene growth. I hope VxG can be something that competes with EVO so it makes them step up their game.

Just looking at the default payouts without the pot, they look to be higher than EVO before 2012. That's pretty astounding for a contender that hasn't even had a tournament yet.
Slinging mud at the most beloved event in a community that is integral to it's grown over the past decade plus is a red flag no matter what way you look at it, THAT is bad for scene growth. And also, they held VxG last year.

I think it would be fascinating if someone did a case study of how the FGC reacted to eSports intervening vs. VxG 2.0.

I remember when i first started playing SF4 and I met Rico Suave through mutual friends. The guy was like on our level for a minute and then he suddenly fucking became god like.

a summary of events from my perspective.

dieminion: gave me zero warning he was leaving. i found out from anonymous third parties. he only sent me a text saying "we need to talk tonight" on sunday. his phone died, eventhubs posted article, ta-da. after the fact i heard that dieminion wasn't happy I didn't send him to canada cup, which would have been a $600+ ticket, and generally found out he was unhappy with our agreement after the fact. being a small sponsor, i can't afford nonstop international travel. i wasn't exactly happy with him leading up to winter brawl, and was going to discuss dropping him from the team on the same day he left anyway.

yipes: told me immediately when he was offered the position of VxG. was extremely upset and really, really didn't know what to do. i reassured him that it's all good with me, because i only want the best for him. he helped me make bt what it is today, and i can never thank him enough for it. i have told him every step of the way through this process that i want him to go through with it, because there's a lot more than just "loyalty". yipes wants to help rebuild the EC and he feels this is one of the ways to do it.

so in short, dieminion could have handled the situation better but it's not really that big of a deal and yipes is dope and you should continue to support both of them.

i appreciate the support i get from you guys, and i just want you to realize there's not a whole lot to the situation beyond that. money is involved, and that's fine. if vxg explodes next year, who cares. the scene will go on

Keep going at it Koogy. I'll be supporting BT. :)

I'm surprised Dieminion handled this situation so poorly. At least the Yipes situation was better. Doesn't matter though. BT will bounce back from this. The FGC will always support a great guy like you Koogy. You've done great things for the community and we really appreciate it.
pls pick up aquasilk/chris hu

Battle Circuit was fun tonight. Chris G probably going to return next week and bring the salt back with him.

Also was thinking if Yipes at Battle Circuit is going to be a regular thing now.

Rebuilding the east coast through EMP? shit. is this the return of the dark ages?

hitbox on that hyper. good luck getting out of that setup. where is killa sasa? your character is destroying and you aren't around to see it!

Haha who says I didn't see it?

I've seen Skinhoff/Renhoff play before too, still is the best combo of prettiest/effective Spoder-Mang. Does all the good stuff and is just solid all around. My favorite Spider-Man player fa sho.

Besides, I'm a washed up has-been now. I'm messing around with Alukard's Spider-Man team because IM3 is coming out and I'm mad hype. Gotta support the team even if Marvel3 Iron Man is on it.

Observations:
- Guard Break stuff is so funny because it's just purely "That shouldn't be"
- Iron Man-Missiles is almost kind of fun and can actually hit things/people
- I should probably learn how to infinite since I have two of the easiest characters for it
- I have the world's worst Doom to go along with the world's worst Phoenix
- I'm too lazy to take the next step to be more consistent, but I'll have fun playing spoiler against people who don't know matchups at EVO, lol

Thanks for the clarification.

At least you and Yipes are still working together somewhat.

P.S. make more shirts. Your still the only one who makes shirts I can wear outside without looking like a goofball. Frequent between enough and you reap the rewards of bringing back classics in new colourways too.

Sucks about Dieminion =\ But good shit Koogy. You've been doing great stuff for the community, and supporting Yipes, while probably tough, is good. Just from what I can tell from this, you're a real stand-up guy, Koogy. I really hope you keep up with BT, I love your shirt designs, and everyone's loved what you've helped to do for the community, from Viscant's posts to your involvement on The Fray-- I know the episodes I've liked the most are the ones you've been on to spit some knowledge on sponsorships.

I'm sure you don't need me (or anyone else, for that matter) to tell you this, but just keep on keeping on, and do what you need to do, everyone on GAF will be supporting you no matter what.

Edit: Questions? Hrm...

Sort of a basic one, but any chance you could convince Clock or Viscant to run a stream? Or-- even though I'm sure it would be a bit more difficult now with Marlin being a career man and all, but would that BT Podcast ever have a chance of happening still?

my only complaint about EMP is triforce's over the top manner of delivery. i just want him to take things a little less serious and a bit more professionally. i want nothing more than the EC to become stronger and more focused, and i have a lot of faith. if this is the catalyst it needs, let's wish it the best luck.

koogy is still the best, and the reason why the only FGC shirt I own is the BT illuminati shirt.

sucks to hear about dieminion as he was one of my favs, definitely lost some respect for him.

Yipes is legit though. BT will still be able to find new players to support, and they are still my fav crew.

keep keepin it real koogy, and keep promoting GG!

I got my eyes on this whole EMP VxG business...

Can I buy one of the old TS shirts? :3

Serious question: I dunno if it's possible, but any possibilities that a small community/TO can work with you for their event? Like maybe a package deal of your shirts to raffle at the day of the event or something.

EDIT: KingItachi is hella enjoying that kool-aid today. :D

Is sponsoring as many players as you are doing right *now* sustainable or are you expecting things to grow and eventually become sustainable?

Where do your non-BT ventures sit at the moment? Specifically branching out to non-FG apparel?

Are you going to get new people now that Die and Yipes have left, or are you going to just stick with the remaining members? Also, when are you going to force Viscant to write more blog posts?
please do this!

Are you going to ease off sponsorships for a while? Also you have something planned for Final Round in terms of merchandise.

it's extremely hard to hear the community's overall positive messages to me vs. the singular trash talkers / haters. my life follows this comic minus the eating cheetos part http://theoatmeal.com/comics/making_things

I'd like to know how sponsorships work in general. How much do you get from them vs. how much do they get from you? Do you know what EMP is offering that's so amazing Yipes took it?

:/

I got into troubles for teasing stuff.
And i dont want to get banned for trolling BlazBlue!

Didn't stop you from trolling about a 'new Garou' game, which further proves my point of how out of touch people are with SNK series, why stop there =V

Yea I am super curious on the offer that Yipes and Co are getting that would make them leave a respected sponshorship in the FGC... which let's be honest doesn't exactly grow on trees.

Koogy, I think it's about time you sponsored a GAF member.

'Sup, Koogy.

How about instead of a "4loko/mike's" trade, how about an entire pack of mike's for sponsorship next time. >B)

What's this Master League Min is talking about? I heard Sagat mirrors and got all warm and fuzzy inside.

A tournament that is character locked and every character must be represented I believe. If multiple people want the same character they have to play it out in a round robin.

Do we a specific date for Master League other than April? And on spooky's channel I assume?

I'm wholly in love with the idea until we get Blanka/Honda/Rufus mirrors

This is sort of my take on EMP/triforce too. A lot of people (gaf included) act as if triforce personally wronged them. The relationship Triforce has with his players is way more significant than the shit we see on streams.
