I'm saying that people seem to think it's impossible to make a good video game movie simply because it hasn't been done and then can't think of how it could be done.
Would a movie be able to convey what makes gaming unique? Of course not. Just like a movie can't convey what makes a book or comic unique. But you still have fantastic adaptations of books and comics.
Not all games would be prime for movie adaptations. You're right, Portal probably wouldn't be a good candidate. But there are games with plenty of potential. Even if it's just taking the characters and world and bits of stories here and there and retelling them in a unique way, like most comic book adaptations do.
I wish I had the resources to make a movie just so I could show that it could be done well.
