Films based on Games, are you for or against?

I don't know why I haven't gotten used to it yet, but I am always amazed by people who have this, "I have not seen it done, I cannot imagine it being done, therefore it is impossible," mindset.

The thread isn't meant to be questioning whether it's possible to make it or not, of course it is.

It's if it would every convey the things that make gaming unique, interactivity and gameplay.

I'm saying that people seem to think it's impossible to make a good video game movie simply because it hasn't been done and then can't think of how it could be done.

Would a movie be able to convey what makes gaming unique? Of course not. Just like a movie can't convey what makes a book or comic unique. But you still have fantastic adaptations of books and comics.

Not all games would be prime for movie adaptations. You're right, Portal probably wouldn't be a good candidate. But there are games with plenty of potential. Even if it's just taking the characters and world and bits of stories here and there and retelling them in a unique way, like most comic book adaptations do.

I wish I had the resources to make a movie just so I could show that it could be done well.

Silent Hill was good, save for some shitty writing.

This is true.

People not into games in my circle liked it AND got interested in the games thanks to it. Pyramid head FTW!

Also, I want Pirates of the caribbean 4: The secret of monkey island naow.
