I'm surprised that In the Loop is getting as much headway as it is. It was well-written, but it felt more like a long episode of a television show than a movie (and given that it's based on a television show, I'm not surprised). I also didn't find it that funny, but that's just me.

Well, he is the main guy in Lost. Even Solo would tell you that.

In Speed Racer, he was supporting.

Yeah in SR he's supporting, but he also hasn't been the main guy in Lost since season 1. There's just a bunch of random main people on lost.

Thats ridiculous.

It's an ensemble show, but Jack is the lead.

Kill bill vol. 1 & 2

Although bruce lee made the yellow jump suit popular, many of the younger kids will associate the yellow motor cycle suit with kill bill. Not to mention the sound track
Anyone who hears These songs will remember the movie

Lol, Kill Bill is far from a cult movie.

I think you misunderstand what a Cult Movie is.

He is the first thing we see after all.

Also: Vincent is the second most important character on the show given that he appeared second.

It will go down as the greatest comedy of all time. People will look back and say "this is how you make a good spoof" just like they did for Naked Gun and Scary Movie.

I think Stardust might pick up a cult following, eventually. It did mediocre in the US, but decent overseas. Quite overlooked.

in what way? not even 10 years from now?

A cult movie is something that gets a collective 'meh' when it comes out but gradually gains in popularity as the years pass. Blade Runner is the classic example.

Kill Bill, on the other hand, was really popular when it came out (well, as popular as a violent R-rated movie could be) and remains popular to this day. The 'cult' status doesn't really apply to it.

Well it doesn't have to get a "meh" from critics it just has to be generally unpopular or overlooked by mainstream audiences.

A cult following suggests to me two things:

1. It's a cult because the film spoke to some element of society that is otherwise underserved.

2. The film probably wasn't that good, but had some unique presentation or soon-to-be-famous actor that "sells out."

Only one post after mine, it meets all of my requirements. Well done.
Jesus Christ dude, your superiority complex is unreal. At least half the posts I see of yours have this sneering condescension.

I agree with you to a certain extent.
The presence of the captain was absolutely needed to complete the film....but did they really need to make him some mutant zombie looking dude? The first 2/3 of the movie had me hooked....i was buying everything they were feeding to me. Even when they first revealed what happened to the Icarus-1 i was still right there with them. But when the guy turned out to somehow be immune to flesh disintegrating light it took me out of the movie and made me go "lol wtf?" Had they not gone the whole space zombie route and instead just made the captain a regular mortal sunshine would be nearly flawless for me. Regardless its still a GREAT movie though.
I don't wholly remember how they portrayed him, but they probably wanted to turn him into some kind of insane prophet who was so far eroded that he barely even looked human. But one can argue that it doesn't really work. In fact, normally I would agree that it's not appropriate to turn a movie like this into a "slasher" and that something more original can be done, but I really love the symbolism and the themes and think that they really elevate the film rather than destroy it.

Speed Racer movie of forever.

To the people that hated on it without even giving it a chance I say to you: fuck you assholes!

The Fountain. Accept Darren Aronofsky as your lord and savior.

I don't know if Master And Commander is a "cult" movie, but from what I can see it's horribly under appreciated and overlooked. As far as I'm concerned it's a near perfect masterpiece and a modern classic.

you hit the nail on the head with The Brothers Bloom. I just saw it only a month or two ago and was so surprised with it.
I agree, the brothers bloom was quite good. This, Coraline, Brick, Watchmen, Sunshine and Pandorum

What about people like me who saw it specifically because of all the GAF love and thought it was the stupidest thing ever?

Speed Racer is really REALLY polarizing...you will love it or hate there is no in betwee....personally I loved it but I have a move/videogame love hate theory that I hold close to heart
great visual design can make any movie awesome regardless of its story or script
Imaginarium is fucking fantastic, was going in expecting it not to be as good as I wanted it to be, blew away all expectations

I felt the same way. I didnt know it was based on a tv show at the time i saw it but thats how i felt when it was over.

Came to post this!
Seriously doubt it. The movie was alright for its genre, but it had way too much of a made-for-tv, SyFy feel to it. It'll be forgotten in a few years.

I'm with you on that. British people saying cunt loses its charm fast.

I like In the Loop, but Dr. Strangelove was a lot more cutting and provocative, not to mention stylistically interesting.

Also, Snaku is a hero.

Yeah it's definitely not on the same level as Dr. Strangelove. But it's the only modern time alternative. And the satire is even sharper in the guy's tv series. Also Master and Commander and Apocalypto are the best adventure films of the last decade.

Until I can rattle my brain for some better ones, I'll have to agree.
