Final Fantasy 7 Remake Demo is UP!

Fuck no definitely not worth it for ONE GAME. Yeah of course its better because it supports higher resolution

No you don't trust me. Keep it for next-gen because at this point its really waste of money
Yeah that's what I'm leaning towards.

But I'm also thinking that I could use an HDR monitor for more than just this game, but I wouldn't want a shitty HDR monitor so I'd need to spend at least $500 I think. But even then, if the vanilla PS4 implementation of HDR isn't that great, then that would probably be a waste too lol.

Awesome skills! I love it.

Question: Is there a reason why you didn't use Barret's Overcharge ASAP at the beginning of the tail laser phase?
I wanted to ensure I had the overcharge ability once the boss was staggered as I use it then to deal damage and get some ATB for the last phase. The overcharge could have charged in time for the stagger if I used those triangle cancels, but It might have been tight. Since it wasn't a speed run, I just went the safe route.

Gotcha. Good thinking!

I see what you did on the last stagger after using Cloud's limitbreak. Nice optimization to maximize damage.

havent been a playstation owner since having a ps3 back in 2012 or 13, can't remember, but it's been a hot minute...

annnnnd welp, i couldnt contain myself any longer. i have to play this game when it comes out. so i impulse bought a ps4 pro three days ago and it showed up today. downloaded the demo, finished it... and oh my fuck is it glorious

very surreal getting sucked into that game and feeling like i was a 10 year old kid again but this time in a grown up, fleshed out version of the bombing run. maybe its just cause i was high but dude i felt immersed af playing that. like, i kind of lost myself in that world. it was awesome. preordered the full game without even thinking after the demo was over

good shit SE. now hit a homer with the full game (well, part 1 at least... lmao 🤷‍♂️ )

Can you imagine part 2 with the open world part? Hope they don't gut that out.
It would be good to have. Maybe the episodic nature of the game has a benefit on development in the sense that Squeenix can concentrate on the basics first without having to develop the open world map aspect of the rest of the game yet.

This is more of a personal thing, but I really don't like how much more HP the characters have in this game. Cloud went from having 300 HP to 1K in the remake. **Air Buster spoilers?** Not just that, one of the trailers shows the fight with Air Buster and Barret has more than 3K HP already and he was only level 17, I think? I'm not into that. Now, that doesn't objectively make the game worse, obviously, but I prefer smaller numbers, especially at low levels.

I assume that's just for the demo and trailer's sake. Who knows for sure.

for me not open world but bigger area with zones is ok..something like zone/separate map like in xiv but if they want to pull open world, it great too but i hope they didnt screw up as designing open world game is not easy

atleast, if they want to go to that route, luckly we have part 2 on ps5 as the game surely benefit from ssd when creating big area/world

If this was turn-based and had synth music, it would definitely top the original.
I missed a lot when the boss battle theme didn't started at boss lol

To be fair I found the main song inferior to the original too.
Barrett's dialogues were more iconic too.

I was watching Angry Joes demo impressions, and he brought up some interesting things about pricing. Have they talked about pricing for this game yet?, i mean will it be $60 and then you get episode 2 and 3 for free when they are released like other episodic games?. Its not exactly our fault that Square decided to split the game up into 3 parts instead of waiting untril the remake was finished. It would be a bit dodgy to charge us $180 for the 'full game'.

These games should've been called a reimagining instead of a Remake. This is a full game from beginning to end with new story content added to the old content we had with the original. In the original Final Fantasy we spent a few hours in Midgar where as Midgar is fully fleshed 50 to 60 hours in this game.

Square Plans to do the same with the follow up games. There's no way they are going to give the follow ups for free. I expect them to be 60$ just like this one is. Also, Square never said how many episodes/games this will be.

I'm honestly hoping that in these episodes/sequels they work in Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, and Advent Children all into the Remake with added story and conclusion to the entire Final Fantasy VII ark.

It'll take them a decade plus.... but I'll eat that shit up..

After my first run with the demo I didn't know what to think about combat, but after my third run I stopped button mashing and it actually clicked with me.

I can't wait to play the final game!

Let me just shamelessly use this thread to brag about the fact, that yesterday, just 23 years after my first playthrough, I finally managed to beat ruby weapon for the first time ever. I also finished the game again and fucked sephiroth before he could even use his summon on me. What a loser. I'm ready for the remake of the first 10% of the original game.

It looks blurry in my Ps4pro on 1080p screen, with some irritating 30 fps animations. Great gameplay though. I hope there will be a Pc version, this game definitely begs for 60 fps.

What has changed?
You have said multiple times across multiple thread thay this non OG was not for you

I really don't think that's the case, unfortunately. I have a list of reasons for thinking this way, but I'm too lazy right now and it's late, so I'll go to bed lol.
I agree that low levels should have smaller numbers. It sets a good scale so that big numbers later on look more impressive.

Plus, smaller numbers are easier for humans to conceptualize.

it is getting old seeing the same old takes over and over

"This is just the 1/3 the game?"

no, silly, this is a new game. it is not the same game as the one that came out 20 years ago. you will not get 1/3rd of a game. this is a full game. it is a new game. new things to do, new gameplay to play through. it is not the same thing as what was released 20+ years ago. NEW GAME.

so when they offer, years down the line, Final Fantasy Remake Compilation, and you pay $180 for it, and it comes with 3 games, then you will be buying 3 full games. you will not be buying a single game chopped into 1/3rds and sold to you as three. it will be three full games. you will be buying 3 full games. each game will not be 1/3rd of the 1997 Final Fantasy game. because that is not this game. the remake is different.

honestly i'm not even sure this needs to be stated, i feel like people are just acting dumb at this point in order to make a very tired joke.

basically this:

Finished the demo yesterday, after I put it down out of boredom the day before. It's decent, I guess. Graphics are underwhelming tough, but the combat system is serviceable. So far, it's ok. Might pick it up day one, because I have plenty of disposable income and it's interesting to see what they did with a remake of my favourite game of all time.

It's an ok game and I like FF7 too much, to not try out this remake + I have enough cash to burn right now.

This single RE-IMAGINED game will be cut into at least 4 parts though.

Talking about the characters and the dialogue, I loved the banter between Cloud and Barret. Cloud here seems better than the old morbid one from Advent Children or other projects. Him smiling when Jessie says "That was cool!" felt a little out of character for him, haha.
To be fair though, character wise, Cloud is in a much different place at the beginning of FF7 than he is during Advent Children.

Anyway, below is the no-damage no-items boss run if anyone is keen. While it wasn't really a speed run, the time is around 2:41.
After spending more time with the demo and trying to min/max kill time, I can say that I'm looking forward to this game even more.

After looking at your video, I did a few things differently that I think helped.

I know you were aiming for no damage, but at the very beginning of the fight and when the scorpion jumps back down in the 2nd phase, I like to use the parry from punisher stance.

During the first phase, you can make the scorpion fall down and put it into pressure just by doing a punisher combo berserk buff then two more punisher combos. Don't even need to use the fire. Then, I use those two ATB bars to do punisher combo -> cancel into Focused Thrust -> punisher combo -> cancel into Focus Thrust to stagger. Since Barret still has the ATB bar, I can use that to thunder with 1.6 damage.

Then,, at the start of phase 2, I have already built up 2 or almost 2 ATB bars with Cloud. Instead of two fires to hit the field generator, I go to the rear of the scorpion do a half punisher combo into berserk buff, then fire to kill the shield. When the Scorpion jumps on the wall, I shoot a fire with Cloud and a Focused Shot with Barret. Scorpion jumps back down, parry/counter with Cloud into more punisher combos to make the Scorpion fall, Punisher combo -> beserk buff -> Focused Thrust to stagger, then another thunder with Barret.

At the start of phase 3, Cloud should have at least one ATB bar and the berserk buff still active, so I have him throw one fire while he's running to the debris.

Great stuff! Yeah I so wanted to use those counters, but with the no-damage constraint, I couldn't.

Seems like you've optimised it nicely after that initial counter then. Keep it up!

I want to pre-order FFVII remake. The problem I have is that I live in Europe, where we don't get pre-order bonusses for ffvii remake. Anyone know how else I can get things like Sephiroth or Tifa's theme?

I thought the Tifa theme was only obtainable through the US Butterfinger promotion?

They're not cutting it up into parts now? lol
They are. We'll see just how "full" the game ends up being because they say it's a full experience worthy of a Final Fantasy game. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Demo was fuckin' sweeeeet.

Not counting on it, but I, too, would love this, esp some of the CC stuff!
