Final Fantasy Explorers Coming to NA/EU!

You're talking about a company that released FF1 and 2 separately on PSP.

R.I.P. I still have it here somewhere, IIRC I bought all the FFs from 1-6 on the GBA/DS (1&2 GBA, 3 DS, 4 GBA, 5 GBA, 6 GBA). Skipped 4 DS because of the framerate.

EDIT - Here:

Add me to the list of people who want the 3DS final fantasy port, though I'm not worried. Square has localized every version of Final Fantasy except the WonderSwan and MSX versions; both of which were Japanese only hardware. Explorers looks good too, as it seems to fulfill that itch I usually get from the Phantasy Star games.

Ok, so I'll admit, I don't know too much about this game before today. Currently looking for videos of gameplay.

How similar to Monster Hunter 4 is this?

This looks pretty great...

I'm hoping it is more Phantasy Star Online than Monster Hunter though...

Wow... another game I'll actually want for 3DS. Do we know if it will have any N3DS perks? I'm still waiting for a strong enough reason to buy one...

Finally. Took them forever to announce this. I'll definitely be getting this.

I hope Final Fantasy I 3D will be announced next. I honestly want that more. :P

Wait why do people want FF1? I like RPG's as much as the next guy but 1 and 2, are suuuuuper dated. I can't go back to it, thats for sure.

I finished the psp version a while back and it holds up well. Spritework is nice and the bonus dungeons / boss cameos are welcome. Doesn't drag you down for hours like later rpgs.

I have no interest in FF 1 3D though.

I hope that EU/US will get the same demo as Japan, just so people know what to expect from the game.

I cleared the story in the Japanese version and summed up my impressions in a short blog post which I linked in the OT:
Play time 23 hours
Cleared? Yes (main story)
Sold? No (digital version)
Worth it? Tough one! (see impressions)

Impressions:
Final Fantasy Explorers. The game which was supposed to be (?) a marriage of the MH/PSO formula and the Final Fantasy franchise. A love letter to all FF fans wanting an action packed challenge where one could stand against the most memorable Eidolons/Summons/Guardian Forces/whatever.
And yet all we’ve got is a mediocre spiritual sequel to the DS Crystal Chronicle games. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked those games, but with the game coming out on a new platform I was expecting something more.
In reality the hub town feels like a copy paste from MH/Ragnarok Odyssey games, quest areas are empty and regular enemies lack variety and hardly ever present any challenge.
"But what about the Summons?", you ask. Yes, battles with Summons are the high point of the game, but even they get boring after having to fight them XX times for different quests. After you clear the the story you unlock the "high difficulty" quests with stronger versions of all boss monsters, but more hp and addition of cheap, one hit kill attacks is the only difference I’ve noticed so far. Oh, I almost forgot… If you’re waiting for new bosses, prepare your wallet - each monster will probably cost 400 yen (current price for Gilgamesh, the first DLC summon).
Maybe multiplayer makes this game more enjoyable. I’ve played a good few hours of the demo with a few friends and, as usual, it felt much better than playing alone. Sadly I know only 2 people playing the full version after the demo made everyone else decide not to touch game.
Just to make things clear - I don’t hate this game. It has a few good ideas, tons of Jobs to choose from, option to make original abilities with different passive modifiers and enough fanservice (changing into Cloud/Squall etc. and using their limit breaks) to satisfy fans of the series looking for a MH/PSO-lite game. It even allows you to add regular monsters to your party after you get a rare drop from them.
All of the above is the main reason why I kept on playing after clearing the main story mode. The game isn’t bad enough to hate it, it just… Isn’t good enough to love it.
If you’re thinking about the purchase, my suggestion would be to try the demo and form your own opinion. It’s free!

The image says it is, but I thought I remembered something similar for the Type-0 LE.

Oh I just read the text and not the tiny box. I think I even saw DQ Heroes on Amazon listed at one point, too. Might as well get it on SE just in case... At least the store doesn't suck now and you can actually change info/cancel orders!

Forgot about this game heh. Think out of all the 3DS news that came out today, this be the game I will check out, especially for a MH fix for now. Looking forward to the job system.

So hyped for this game. I need that pso fix in my life and this being online makes it even more exciting. trying to recruit friends now to get it so they can play!

Preordered this game for the hell of it cause I got 3 gamestop giftcards for christmas. The 26th can't come soon enough.

Got two LEs coming and looking forward to some coop with MrsBS. Game doesn't look that flash but its cute at least.

I have the LE preordered. From what I've seen the game isn't anything amazing but it's the closest thing we're going to get to a new Crystal Chronicles so I feel obligated to support it.

So this game is due out at the end of the month (29th Jan), not seen much hype around GAF for it.

There is a Demo releasing in Europe on Thursday this week (7th Jan)!

The game can also be found cheaply for pre-order in the UK ~£23 at most stores, and to add further value, the game contains all the DLC that was sold separately with the Japanese version. It seems like decent value even if it's not as complex as Monster Hunter, it still looks fun.

Edit: Apparently no demo, must have got it mixed up with Legend of Legacy...

Do you know what DLCs there were in Japan by chance?

Yeah I feel the same, even if it looks like low budget, low effort mess. I'm getting 3 copies >_>

I think im going to get it. Not a lot of hype for it around these parts but I want something new to do on my 3ds and it looks serviceable

Do you know what DLCs there were in Japan by chance?

The first DLC was a set of Final Fantasy VII costumes based on Cloud, Aerith and Tifa, each for 150 yen

The second DLC added the Blue mage class for free, Gilgamesh for 400 yen and Final Fantasy X costumes for 150 yen each

The 3rd DLC was costumes of Lightning, Cecil and Dissidia version of Bartz, each for 150 yen.

The January Nintendo Direct introduced for free the Samurai class and the boss Omega is available for 400 yen.

Is the a demo for NA?

Well it's not like Square Enix themselves are making that big of a deal about it. You think they would with the success of Monster Hunter outside of Japan and it's growing popularity. I don't even know why they're bothering to do a collectors edition to be honest. Shouldn't that wait until a sequel and you have a built in fan base.

I do hope a demo gets released in NA. Would like to try this out before I possibly buy.

I agree. This is one of many 3DS games that are coming out in the near future and will be competing for play time. I'm not sold on it yet from what I've seen, but am definitely interested.

Perfect, thanks a lot!

Trying to decide between this and World of FF at the moment. I like JRPGs and hunting games, £23 seems a reasonable price for FFE.

Hopefully we'll get some more impressions soon.
