Final Fantasy fans: how do you feel about FF XIII?

Ok, so I've recently started playing Final Fantasy X again and I must say it feels absolutely wonderful to relive the story again and see all characters again. It also made me think about the first next-gen Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy XIII. The first moment I saw the E3 trailer of this game I couldn't help but feel a little sad because, well, I'm generally NOT liking where this FF game is going. IMO, the setting is way too high-tech and futuristic and (don't take this wrong) I personally don't like the fact that the main character is female. It reminds me too much of FFX-2. I know that many FF fans feel that Final Fantasy X was also too futuristic, but I think that FF XIII has gone way too far into the future. I can't help it, but when I look at the screenshots, I just don't feel any love for this Final Fantasy, because I don't like the art, the characters, the setting and the whole thing. I'm worried. Seriously.

Tell me GAF, am I the only one who feels about FF XIII this way?

Couldn't care less.

I've loved every FF from VI->XII, but the art design and info known on XIII completely turns me off. XII just spoiled everything with the incredibly awesome character and worldview design. I don't want to go back. :\

To me Final Fantasy is about imagination and adventure. If FFXIII keeps this quality up, I don't care how far it is into any given future. I like the main character design, and I like the team working on it. I don't feel as if they'll let me down. The new battle system looks incredible as well. I say keep it fresh--it seems like an advancement of FFVIII's Esthar environment, which I loved.

I kinda like the idea of a far future FF.........since I'm not going to ever get a quality single player Phantasy Star RPG.

I also think they should have kept the play style of FFXII instead of going in another direction.

Totally hated FFX too.

My interest is piqued mainly due to the combat system, it looks like they're really striving to come up with something unique and interesting. It also looks like it has room for some seriously tactical gameplay so yeah I'm optimistic.

I don't particularly dislike it, but nothing about it has really caught me interest, either. I should say, though, that I had the same experience with FFX and I still enjoyed it.

I've never been disappointed in Final Fantasy (VI-XII). And yes, I totally love FFVIII. There, I said it. Why should FFXIII be any different?

Oh COME ON!

I share your feeling towards the art style of FF13. I really don't "feel" it.
Squaresoft is having this way of deceiving me since the PS2. I LOVED the battles in FF10 and i think it looked ok. But the story and voice acting was such a turn off i didn't finish the game.
FF12 i LOVE the art style but jesus christ i can't stand the battles style.

Now FF13 we don't know much about the battle system but i'm already sick and tired of Squaresoft anyway. I won't go through FF12 and i probably won't play FF13 either i suppose.

EDIT --- also forgot: FFX-2 was the shittiest thing i've ever witnessed.

Just artistically, its the most appealing next gen RPG to me so far. That'll likely stay the case until SMT4 is revealed.

And if they can pull off the gameplay they're aiming for its going to be amazing.

I don't mind the futuristic setting at all. As long as the storytelling and gameplay don't suck, I'll be buying FFXIII. The thing that bothers me is the multiple FFXIIIs, though.

wtf? you sure you're not confusing ffxiii with ffx-2? "spice girl shit" lol.

anyway, i'm MUCH more interested in ffxiii -even though i know almost nothing about it- than i am in ffxii.

XIII is being done by those responsible for X, therefore my interest level is 0, absolutely no interest at all.

Safe to say you might've just made the best comparison ever.

It looks way too busy in screenshots, and besides, it's got two things going for it that I hate right out of the gate:

1) It's on a next-gen system, and
2) the multi-game milking.

hmm... i thought the FXIII trailer was nothing but a tech demo to show off the new white engine. i think we haven't seen anything about the "real" FXIII yet. i will hold off my comments until the real FXIII is shown.

Oh COME ON!

FFVIII and FXIII look nothing alike.

FXIII looks more like FFX-2 than anything.

Honestly, i'm 10x more hyped for Lost Odyssey and White Knight than FFX13.

Im a huge FF fan but to be honest im not really diggin the style,it looks a little like they are out of ideas for character design.
FFX/X-2 and FFXII all look kinda similar,Do we really need to keep the same look?
while the graphics are amazing thats something you expect from SE.
I was hoping for something similar to FF9 style wise and thats why i am more intriged at the moment with White Knight.

i'll still buy every final fantasy they create but i hope theres gonna be a redesign coming soon.

I love FFXII so much, I don't give a **** about FFXIII, ATB sucks :lol

More seriously, as long as there won't be more detail about the gameplay, I'm not interested, I want to know how the battle system works before being hyped ^^

Last time it was the ATB system is FF9. FF13 doesn't look ATB to me.

Something is very wrong when people ask for traditional fantasy art in an RPG "for a change."

The whole advent children actiony nature of it is sort of a turnoff, but honestly, we've only seen an incredibly miniscule amount of the game in action. I have high hopes for it in terms of game play, I just hope the story is amazing as well.

I wonder when we'll actually see a true information blowout on the game though. My guess is later rather than sooner.

Please God, make FFXIII be a FFXII remake with improved graphics. It's the only way for the saga to keep on improving.

PS: FFXII DO is that perfect.

Not really much of an FF fan anymore... definitely more interested in Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey... and Infinite Undiscovery and Trusty Bell for that matter. Don't mind the stylistic changes, I'm just hoping the gameplay and storyline holds up, which is entirely up in the air at this point. The fact they are going back to a more traditional battle system is preferable for me, though. Though I hate to rain on anyone's parade, I think FFXII is pretty much gonna be a one-shot deal, and its pretty rare we're gonna get something as radically different as that in the main line series.

Hey, whatever makes you happy.

Oh it makes complete sense, its just going over your head.

I understand what you say, but that doesn't mean it makes sense. Not that i would expect it from you.

And not to be a downer, but FF hasn't been awesome since FFVIII. I wonder who's living the past.

Depends how they do the main female character.

If it's more along the lines of BGnE or FFVI, I'm all for it. If it's anything like Tomb Raider or most RPG bimbos, then scratch that.

Don't really care either way. I'll get excited when the release date starts to get closer, and I'll most likely enjoy it. It's a shame they feel like they have to do a game that works like a CG movie (and a shitty one at that), but I've liked these designs better than any Nomura-designed game yet.

XII is the perfect art style so far, and they really should have continued that, but oh well. I'll enjoy it.

I was just saying that I actually liked FFVIII, before getting bashed like mad. Oh, and if FFXIII turns out to be a FFX-2 with better storyline? So be it. It will be great.

i dont mean it would have to be traditional just something different.
maybe a more gritty setting with a realistic look,A step away from jrock for a change would be nice

It doesn't look like anything anyway, FFX-2 was a steroid enhanced ATB by the way.

Truth. And don't make me type "FFX-2" again please. I'm dirty enough since i've seen someone play the beginning of the game already. Why eyes can't unsee? :lol

I totally agree, it feels like FFX redux, except FFX didn't know whether it wanted to be in the future or the past. I don'tlike the looks of it much so far, but we haven't exactly seen MUCH have we?

It appears to be back to random battles again... That I DON'T like

Well, FFIX was one of my favorites, but I also loved VII and X. I'd like to see what they could do in a ancient fantasy world with the PS3 power, though.

FFXIII still has alot to reveal. Don't get too disappointed before you get a chance to play it.

Too early to tell about the battle system, and I'm keeping an open mind about the style.

But please no more FFXII crap. FF is supposed to have characters I have an emotional investment in. If I wanted some geopolitical power struggle I don't give a crap about, I could just play Splinter Cell or something.

It doesn't really interest me. I hate the sci-fi style they have going with it. FFXII was a step forward for the series yet it seems they are going back to the old turn-based system. Very dissapointing.

But who knows...maybe it'll pull me in anyway.
