Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta 2011: This year it's for children!

When does the event end again? I was really busy this last week and basically put no time in but I'm back on track now.
I didn't really follow it last year, but I was under the impression it ended once the topic died. I should finish it this weekend at the latest though, so if there is an end hopefully it's later than that!

Welp I have made it to the Soul Gun/Cannon and I just keep getting thrashed really badly. I suppose I could switch everyone to Mystic Knight and just spam thundara blade attacks?

Mystic Knight/Monk/Beastmaster
Nope, you can have a max of 2 Mystic Knights. Maybe there's something you can !Catch that does decent damage? I'm not too up to speed on !Catch and the best things to capture.

8/31 is the deadline for donations and the official end of the event, but I'm sure you can keep updating here if you want after that.

I'm bad at it too (maybe one of these years I'll get beastmaster...). Looks like Prototype (on the islands southeast of crest island is where you find it, you know you've got the right one when its the only thing you encounter) casts Mega Flare upon release (which does ~1000 damage sorting out the launchers) but is probably more hassle than its worth to catch (its very strong). Zu has Breath Wing which knocks 25% off the enemies total health upon release helps you get there. You can't use Zu on Soul Cannon though since Zu's attack is Wind element which Soul Cannon is immune to.

Plus don't forget, lower battle speed as it affects enemies more than players (if it even affects players but please, put it back to 1 once you're out of your tough spot/farming items or whatever).

Two Mystic Knights with Thundara Spellblade spamming Focus plus the Monk spamming Focus should really be all you need. That's what provided most of my damage, with my Ranger just providing healing and the rare extra attack.

Maybe there's something with lightning attacks you can catch? Otherwise your Beastmaster can just provide item support. Or, actually, wouldn't Blitz Whip help too?

I think you've got a party combo that should be able to thrash it pretty well.

Haven't updated in a few weeks but I am still playing. I exceeded my photobucket bandwidth and am too lazy to upload all my pics to another host, so expect a massive update in the future. Right now I'm at Moogle village.

Exdeath keeps killing me :(

Knight
Summoner
Ninja
Dragoon

Problem is I have no way of healing all my party at once.
Which Exdeath fight are we talking about here? No matter what you should at least have Golem and Carbuncle. If it's the final boss you should have Phoenix and thus not fear death at all.

And if it's the final battle you can Zantetsuken (from the Magic Lamp) and Catoblepas to eliminate his worst attacks.

!Summon is a godly command against Exdeath.

final_fantasy_5_advance_03.png

Not pictured: my lack of spells.

Not even a token fire spell to start. D:

Third and Fourth tablets are a bit dull (I hate like everything in the third ones dungeon) but here goes:
127.png
128.png

I can use these? and The Bow is better against Magic beasts (as IIRC effective=always critical) but worse against other things (Yoichi bow=30% critical rate)
130.png
131.png

I thought you could skip the boss here using Teleport...might have been warp or maybe they fixed this for the GBA version.
132.png

*yawn*
133.png

GBA jobs I can't use.

So before the Rift I'll head over to Phoenix Tower to max my jobs and maybe bother Bahamut. Plus spending all the Gil I have from selling unneeded stuff...

Horoay, I found the spells! They were conviently three minutes away in a nearby town.

Made it into the canal which is conviently filled with water type enemies, who are as usual weak to thunder spam. Including the boss, a giant crab. Playing as all Black Mages seems as simple as I thought it would be.

1. Spam at everything with what you guess is their weakness
2. If that doesn't work, try the other two elements
3. Victory!

Until the fight with Siren, who was immune to magic! Oh no!

Thankfully, midway through the fight she "became one of the undead" and immediately fell to my barrage of Fire spells.

And I leveled up to Black Magic 2, which means more spells, hopefully Fira, Blizzara, and Thundaga ones with more depth. :P

My lv.15 Thieves finally took down Garula... Now

@TheLuigi87 has gotten the Water Crystal Shards and unlocked 'Summoner' and now is out of MP.

Nuts.. Oh well, this'll be fine later on.

Edit: Or immediately... Summoner helped greatly for giving me the ability to crush Liquid Flame.

Spamming magic spells at everything (and occasionally using and missing with Sleep when I feel adventurous enough) worked well enough until I hit Garula. His attacks hit harder than I can heal with potions, and he attacks two-three times during the time to takes for the meter to refill. He's also immune to Sleep, my one support spell.

Current strategy is to grind up a bit until I can outlast him.

The beginning of the game is so cheezy with a knight.

You can basically just swing away at Siren. With double hand you can beat the mountian boss in three hits and Garula will go down in about two turns.

and my next job is mystic knight. Guaranteed healing from the end of world one on.

So in 3 1/2 neogaf playthroughs I have had these characters.

2 Knights, 1 Monk, 1 Blackmage.
2 Berserkers, 2 Mystic Knights

Knight+Mystic Knight is a new one. Brave Blade+Flare Sword/Drain Sword/Holy Sword Madness.

What do you feel on repeating jobs from past playthroughs? You've probably played it tons of times, so it shouldn't really be much of an issue. How'd you feel with having access to not only having access to the jobs from the crystal that just shattered, would it ruin progression for the fiesta?

Yeah my BST has the Blitz Whip but it seems I can't kill off the launchers quick enough. Might just farm for the prototype Mega Flare to see how that goes.

I was thinking that last thought quite a bit today actually while playing the game.

If you just hand out a new job (doesn't matter from which crystal) after they shatter you could get some of the more broken combinations (Summoner, Red Mage, Ninja, Ranger) and some that would compete with the hardest challenges of the vanilla fiesta.

Thief/Monk, Beastmaster, Geomancer, Berserker is probably a bit worse than Monk,Berserker, Beastmaster/Geomancer, Dragoon.

But it does take a bit more programming as you'd have to cross off which jobs you use unless you want to allow multiples. Four Berserkers is doable, I assure you, but it is frustrating.

It would freshen things up a bit, would give the chance to have some slightly more broken parties along with a few slightly worse ones, but would be slightly harder to program (but not much.)

Basically that but also don't be scared to use an Elixir or two as potions won't help you keep up with sap. This video might be help to you (at least the obvious part).
Ah, thanks for that! :)

I think one other factor affecting me is that I have battle speed set to 1. He'd be able to get of three attacks in between turns, which just added up too fast.

Even if sleep only had at 25% change of working it'd be so much easier. Just having one turn to recover would help so much.

Either way, I'm up to level 14, so even with battle speed set to 1 the fight shouldn't be hard. :P You can grind up pretty fast in the tower.

Knight/Mystic Knight makes the fire ship a breeze. Boss will die to three double handed blizzaras. Iron Claw goes down in two rounds of attacks, Gigas in two attacks, everything else in one in the fire castle. Got everything in less than four minutes, and my new job is...

GEOMANCER! FINALLY NO Dumb deaths in X-Deaths castle from taking floor damage! No more using 50 hi potions in the trench!

So to update my classes

2 Knights, 1 Black Mage, 1 Monk
2 Berserkers, 2 Mystic Knights
2 Beastmasters, 1 Ninja, 1 Geomancer

Level 19, attempting to infiltrate the Flying Ruins...
... Man, these cannons are hard... *googles their levels*

... WTF AM I DOING UP HERE?!

Finally got the earth crystal. Monk/RedMage/Beastmaster/Chemist. Not the worst, but I have no love for beastmaster/chemist. Been working on capture/release stuff and now I've seen the benefits (thousand needles yay!!!) Need to read up on chemists now. I know they are powerful, I just never used them (same with fft calculators, I just like doing stuff old skool style).

Sorry, haven't been able to play much FFV lately, but I'm still going to finish it.
I'm kind of obliged to do so with my easy party.
Well, here's the next part of Summons/Blue magic doing all the work.

OSKJr.png

One more added to the party.

GIhlW.png
vQqkE.png

Was Enkidu even there? *twist*

WHtV1.png

I didn't know that he didn't attack when 1 person was dead, so I kept reviving everyone the whole time.
Only at the end I noticed that he didn't do anything else but sucking my party members in.....
Galuf will be sucked.

S7XcC.png

One at the time, starting with the uttermost left for Aeroga. And thank you golem.

AhQvS.png

Beastmasters don't die until all the beasts are dead, didn't you know Exdeath?

I will probably play a bit more again the coming days.
And thanks to this thread I already know some things that can be quite useful in World 3.

Do these screens move on automatically? I'm playing on my micro and would probably have to fetch a camera first.

Which means: I finally entered the Rift! I hope I get around without Mighty Guard, I couldn't find Stingray.

Do you miss anything by skipping Leviathan (besides not getting the summon)? I just took the tablet and left the dungeon.

Argh, been busy the past few days. I really need to step up my game.
I'll try to get to the Earth Crystal today, but I'm not really looking forward to Archeoavis or Soul Cannon.
Jucksalbe said:

Why? Just never randomly attacked by him? You sure you were in the right place? Google Image search "ffv stingray" and it's the first world map image you see.

Jucksalbe said:
Yes, I looked it up. After more than 1 hour of searching, I went on with the story.
Ah, ok. Understandable. I've hit both ends of the spectrum - 2009, took me like 40 minutes. This time, the very first battle was a Stingray.

Twintania's a wee bit trickier. We could just Magic Lamp him with Odin while he's charging Gigaflare. But then we'd have to go recharge it and then walk all the way back here. Hell with that. Instead we wear Coral Rings to avoid most of his attacks, cast Shell on everyone...
With Time Mage you could just have used Banish.

Jucksalbe said:

They will move on, but you'll get enough time to snap a few pictures.

Haven't been able to play for the past two days or so, but I plan to do a bunch tonight. Question: I'm in Exdeath's tower and I'm on a floor with a bunch of lava or fire on the ground that I have to walk across. How many hours (guestimate) do I have left?

Um...well after that castle you're at World 3. Then you have the Pyramid, and then technically you could go straight to the Rift from there, but you'll probably want to do the Sea Shrine, the Fork Tower, and the Great Undersea Trench. So...anywhere from 3-6 hours? Maybe?

Finally, the earth crystal has shattered!

@TheLuigi87 can now use the Earth Crystal job 'Dancer'. Lucky, lucky!

So that gives me... A Thief, a Summoner, a Bard, and a Dancer.

... Not exactly who I'd pick to save the world, but what the hell.

final_fantasy_5_advance_01.png

Hooray, Garula is down! Wasn't terribly bad with 300~ HP, but still was able to knock out Lenna and Faris.

final_fantasy_5_advance_02.png

And my next job is Red Hat Mage, which means I get healing magic and some decent melee support. Really happy with my luck so far.

Previously on FFV we were about to ascend Phoenix Tower to get some ABP (~500).

Here is a video example of how I went about making sure I only used one Elixir on the magic pots (not that I needed to or anything).
I use return but I'm muted so casting it is not an option...at least using the !Time command anyway...

134.png

I always found the I'm standing on the railing bit odd...

135.png
136.png
137.png

Before and after our trip. Oh and Faris is the first party member to master everything.

Since we were in the area we decided to pop in on an old friend.
138.png
139.png

I got very lucky with Meteor as he never used Mega Flare (or is it Giga Flare?), I'm guessing I managed to knock him from over 10,000 down to 0 before he could act (as thats the only thing he does below that)
not that it matters since I had reflect rings

140.png

Return is great for those times when you accidentally shoot Lenna with a bow *flashback to Nagisaa*
Faris has 88 seconds to live?

142.png
143.png
144.png

This boss does different tactics if any of you have a reflect ring. It'll cast buff spells on that person (so cashing them on itself). Judgement staff (casts dispel when used as item, does not break and I think Castle Exdeath is your only chance to get it) takes care of those leaving drain as its only attack making it easy.

145.png

Man this is lazy; they aren't palette, name, AI or anything else swaps...

146.png
147.png

Oh yes, better step carefully (seriously Omega catches me everytime if auto-dash is on but with it off I have no problem)

148.png
152.png

Now Apanda can be berserked stopping the protect - dispell - protect tug o' war. I had to do this battle twice but recorded it the second time which was pretty sloppy but still nobody was in danger.

150.png

The Dragons in the next section are nice, plus they die quickly to chicken knife !rapid fire followed by a single Yoichi's bow shot.

151.png
153.png

Ah these guys and the result of taking one out.

154.png
155.png
156.png

Azumagia has Titian's Gloves as a rare steal but given none of my characters could use it I couldn't be bothered to cast return to make him hold it. Honestly he was easier than I remembered. As for the other guy I did the cheesy float reflect ring...maybe I should have fought him for real.

157.png
158.png

Lenna would be jealous and Krile joined the mastered all club. Just watch this video 6 times basically.

S.W.UK (Bartz) and Lenna probably won't join the club. The former might have Rapid Fire in time for Shinryu...wait did I just say that...it should be doable actually but depends on if I'm fast enough (not needing the Coral rings will make it so much easier but if I can't set up before he does that...). I'll make video evidence if I succeed
Shinryu thats nothing, someone in the logs killed the final boss of the GBA post game dungeon)

Final Job is...

Dancer!

So the final breakdown is

2 Knight, 1 Black Mage, 1 Monk
2 Berserker, 2 Mystic Knight
2 Beast Master, 1 Geomancer, 1 Ninja
2 Dancer, 1 Dragoon, 1 Chemist.

2nd time this year I got Mystic Knight and Dancer, so the final team is Knight, Mystic Knight, Geomancer, Dancer. Very low AP team!

Brave Sword versus Chicken Knife, gonna be tough. To be fair though I could probably get away with just the excalibur.

No reliable multihit attacks (Gaia is as good as it gets) and only single target healing. Exdeath is gonna be a bit annoying.

You guys are the expert, and there's a lot of time to decide on this. I don't think the current system is getting stale at all, but for some veterans it might be, or it could just make it better.

Guess we'll see.

By the way, where is RK?

159.png

Funny...
161.png

...thats what I was going to say to you. Faris cut it thin...

As for Twintaina my strategy was simple:
162.png
163.png

Trigger Tidal Wave to heal me survive Gigaflare by using such brutality it never got to that phase.
Coral Rings meant no timer for Faris...

165.png

I don't get the rift at times.

166.png

Since the final area means no EXP...no point fighting.

Shinryu is cheesed to death in video form (a bit sloppy but you get the picture of how you can do it at home). In case you don't want to know the strategy I've left the picture URLs and describe in spoiler text:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/Starwolf_UK/Computer games/FFV2011/167.png
First have Hermes sandles and use time magic quick. on turn 1 you use power staff to berserk Shinryu into physical attacks only (which do massive damage)
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/Starwolf_UK/Computer games/FFV2011/168.png
Then on turn 2 you use mix Dragon Fang and Eye drops to throw darkness onto him (meaning the physical attacks are more worthless as they miss more, I suppose if you lacked Chemist and had ranger you could use Dark bow). I was supposed to have Elven mantles to make the chance of being hit even less (and a Main Gauche on Krile) but forgot and as is you see only one hit so no big deal. The bit with the Chicken Kinfe was refreshing the mirage status I hope (thats the glitch, right? requiring weapons does things like that)

Well we know whats next...I always find Necrophobe a pain but I kind of want a Cottage spot somewhere near the final boss as my Hi potion supply is a bit thiner than I would like and walking all the way would eat a few of those.
Necrophobe tactics are I think I can death potion the barriers if I need that part to end quickly (which I probably should as I lack focused damage and are more scatterbrain)

Look on page 2. He can only load GAF from his phone. Plus hes kind of busy with his son. If you look on the sites log you can see his progress. Hes up to world 2 now (he spent a while grinding Flame Rings in world 1).

Hehe, let's see what I've had:

2 Blue Mages, 1 Thief, 1 Thief + White Mage
2 Berserkers, 1 Red Mage, 1 Time Mage
1 Beastmaster, 1 Ninja, 1 Geomancer, 1 Bard
2 Dancers, 1 Dragoon

Not a bad distribution.

About to fight the sandworm with my 2x Thief 1x Geomancer 1x Dead Berserker combo. Wish me luck!

Every time I've had berserker I've also had Beast Master. Literally the worst combination in the game.

I have beaten the sandworm with two berserkers though, death axe does an obscene amount of damage when it hits properly.

Yeah, I didn't realize where the Death Sickles were until after I got to Soul Cannon. Oops.
Now, I'm Level 21 and can't beat Soul Cannon. Huzzah. Guess I'll try to get Artful Dodger for my Berserkers...
