Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta 2012

2010 Monk/Red Mage/Ninja/Chemist $12
2011 Thief/Time Mage/Ranger/Chemist $14
2012 Monk/Thief/Berserk/Geomancer $5...if I had Beastmasteer it would be the cheapest...the monetary sense, not the game breaking sense :(

feeling at a loss with the fiesta.

i thought i had made good progress today, but now i'm just lost again.

i think i just don't get this game, the same thing that is currently happening has happened everytime i have tried to play ff5.

i end up with the game kicking my head in and seeming way too hard, and also ending up with a character that is providing nothing of any worth to my team.

currently got blue mage and red mage team.

my blue mage is useless, i've never liked that kinda class both because i suck at using them and also i think they are dumb.

don't feel like there is much going for the rest of the team.

maybe i just can't play ff5.

furthermore, fuck biblos

Have you beaten the game before? Or at least gotten reasonably far in it?

The Fiesta might not be the best way to be introduced to the game.

On the Blue Mages--they're generally considered one of the best classes in the game. Check an FAQ for info on what you can learn from where. They have some bad-ass abilities.

i haven't finished this game before,

usually end up giving up because i find it too hard, like i must be doing stuff wrong, but can't identify it.

have never had this problem with any other final fantasy. its like five is a bugbear.

there to continually taunt me.

yeah i am aware consensus is that blue mages are good, just never been keen having to hunt things to learn from

but yeah, just don't think i'm any good at this game, can't get through any of the boss battles without at least one person dying and not being revived by the end

usual faris, dunno what it is about her, but she is constantly the one geting done in

set battle and message speed to 6 and go from active back to wait if you switched it, should make the game easier.

If you want we can tell you which monsters have blue magic and because you also have a red mage you can even get the confuse only spells early!

furthermore, fuck biblos

Everybody on your team can break rods. Go crazy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a few weeks of their part-time job, Melvin and co. finally have enough money to splurge in Istory:

To relieve stress, the group decides to go fishing. But first, they need bait.

They try worms.

They try crayfish.

The only thing they manage to catch is a turtle.

You really ground those wolves. I mean, damn. Not surprised you did it, surprised how early you did it. Before the Sandworm battle? Whoa.

nah i'm still on wait i think. the difficult for me, is the ratio between how much damage enemies do and how little health i have, seemed to be getting horrendous amounts of damage and more often than not, to quite a few of my team all in quick succession,

with regards to the enemies with blue magic, thanks, but will just save you the trouble and look on the internet,

what actually determines whether or not you learn something?

If you still want to follow the Fiesta rules you could start over with a different first job using the Job Fair.

thanks for the suggestion, but think i'll just try work on my blue mage and bit more, then if i'm still at a loss, i ain't gonna buy a new job,

i'll just give up on it again for another few years haha

You have two jobs that can use rods. Shouldn't Byblos be a breeze? Just break a couple Flame Rods on him.

it seems like it should be a breeze, but previously did not know about breaking rods, looks like i'm gonna have to go hike back to town. haha

Using the Job Fair price allocations, I was curious to see what years I had the 'best' and 'worst' parties:

2010: Black Mage/Beserker/Ranger/Samurai is $15
2011: White Mage/Mystic Knight/Geomancer/Dancer is $13
2012: Knight/Red Mage/Bard/Chemist is $12

Interesting, this year would be considered the 'worst'. I came very close in 2010 to beating the game, whereas last year I only got to Antolyon. Hopefully I'll actually complete it this year.

Hmm...

2010: Black Mage/Summoner/Geomancer/Dancer - $14
2011: Monk/Mystic Knight/Ranger/Dragoon - $13
2012: Thief/Blue Mage/Bard/???????? - $8 so far

So this year's party can, price-wise, only match 2011 at best.

The best part? No repeat jobs (yet).

what actually determines whether or not you learn something?

You have to be hit by the ability to gain it. For example, to get Vampire, you have to let a Steel Bat cast Vampire on one of your party members with Learning (this is an innate ability of Blue Mages, and one that can be learned to pass on to other classes).

so should i help myself out by setting my whole party with secondary ability of learning, seeing as they all started off as blue mages, just so then if anybody is hit my blue mage will learn

I'm just wondering, I've got thiefs, but the battles on crescent island seem to go so slow to gather silver bows.

Could the wolves still give me the money faster with black magic?

Yes, one cast of fire with a fire rod equipped should kill them all depending on your level.

what actually determines whether or not you learn something?
If the ability hits you and you end up winning the fight, you learn the ability.

It MUST hit either a Blue Mage or somebody currently equipped with the Blue Mage ability Learning. Once you learn the spell, everybody on your party has access to it, not just the character that got hit to learn it.

When you're trying to learn abilities, sure. If you don't have any more to learn at the time, you'll be better off with !Blue so that you can actually use the abilities.

thanks to both of you for the help

either of you or anyone else care to explain breaking rods?

When in battle, go to the item menu.

When on the item menu hit up, this will show you what you current have in your hands.

From here you can switch your weapon and shield (if available)

if you hit confirm on your weapon twice and it has an ability it will activate (you'll see the cursor highlight all enemies if you try breaking a rod for example) and it will cast the level 3 spell of the rod's element on all enemy targets.

So for the low price of 750 gold you can do more damage then you should rightly be able to do in the first world and most of the second.

Breaking a rod casts Fire 3 in FFV. Though having a Fire Rod equiped does boost fire spells.

It should be noted in Final Fantasy VI breaking rods does level 2 spells (but at maximum power as there is some sort of random formula) and it is shields you break in that game for level 3 spells.

Also Red Mage can use Staves. Heading to Tycoon castle using the wind drake (the dragon) to get the healing staff can be useful to save MP (with it your attacks heal so attack your party members with it to save casting Cura).

Breaking a rod casts the equivalent -aga spell on all foes. So breaking an ice rod gets you blizzaga, fire rod gets you firaga, etc. Really powerful early in the game.

oh right, level 3 spells sounds swish so biblos will be gone in a round of turns.

also i might actually generally find the game easier from now on.

thanks for heads up, how long till i'm off to tycoon on the dragon

looks like i'm walking back to town then. who knows might get some blue magic on the way :D

A single fire rod will do it, iirc.

nice

see i knew i was playing this game wrong haha.

cos yeah everyone in my party has swords etc.

which is odd because i wouldn't usually do that with a mage, but for some reason because it is an option with red and blue mages, seemed like a valid option

If you didn't get Ifrit right before Byblos this could of been a little troublesome (trying to avoid rod breaking this run).

tR0EA.png
ueHtl.png

It was still a little tough though as only Summoner did good damage while everyone else just held it down with Chakra and Solune's attacks only adding a bit of damage after Byblos protected up.

E1odc.png
862tA.png

One of the fights where having a Berserker is the worst thing. I tried rolling the dice the first time but that ended up terribly. Solune had to take a nap while the crew handled this one. Pretty annoying fight as not much damage is going through at once. Just a lot of Chakra and slow poking. The lame down back stuff here. Totally not Solune's style.

The jokes are inkcredible. Cray Claw gets blown up by straight (soul) fisting.

And time for an interlude between all the battles.

Oooooooh. We also picked up our nakama Ramuh.

Dat childhood friend.

Turtles and Soul Cannon. Not too much of an issue with either. Turtle just got whittled down while the cannon got Ramuh spammed and focus punched (team had enough to take one charged beam and that's all it takes).

euf3B.png
ANC93.png

Haha now this took more than one try. The first time it spammed Frost and Breath Wing which I couldn't keep up with. Second time lots of crits with focus punches send it packing but even then it was a little close in the end. Slyph helped but man it really loses its effect fast.

And for all that effort I'm rewarded with my fourth and last job:
LacgA.png

Hahahaha. I guess for a little while this will be Team Bionic (Bare) Arms.

Thanks, thought as much after those slow battles
and I hate Bio Soldiers

Steal and Flee. You get a Silver Bow 90% of the time, and don't have to fight anything. Works on any encounter. After you get to Barrier Tower, you can make a mint if you're farming Reflect Knights for the rings, since you can steal War Hammers from them.

Things to remember for next year: After entering World 3, Lenna won't be available for a while, so make her the Berserker.

Oh ya, fire rods! Guess I should go farm some Ricard Mage :| Anyone know what the drop % is like? I got a single one while heading to the top of the tower so I think it is probably like 10% or so. Wish I could force the 3 pack of them to be the only thing that spawns for me to fight.

A few other weapons can be used the same way as those rods, with different spells. Some of them don't even break, either, so you basically get a free spell, even if you otherwise would never have access to it. Aside from those 3 rods, there are:

Poison Rod: Casts Bio, breaks
Staff of Light: Casts Holy, breaks
Wonder Wand: Casts Return
Judgment Staff: Casts Dispel
Sage's Staff: Casts Raise
Masamune: Casts Haste
Defender: Casts Protect

World 2!

Manticore was no problem; he hit the team with an Aquabreath at the start, but a periodic dose of Romeo's Ballad from Lenna the Bard made it docile the rest of the battle, allowing MK Faris and Dancer Bartz to beat it down without much resistance. Going into World 2, Dancer Bartz was able to defeat Abductor, despite getting hit by hurricane at the beginning, thanks to a timely confuse dance followed by a sword dance.

After Monk Galuf freed the rest of the team, the first spot of serious resistance came from the second Gilgamesh battle. Last year, this battle was a piece of cake due to Protect and healing, but without those spells, the second part of the battle became far more difficult, ending with only Galuf standing when Gilgamesh fled. I then went to Regole for weapons, including a sleep harp and sleep sword for Lenna and Faris, and some new strong spells for Faris' spellblade (Drain, Break, Bio).

I'll chronicle random biuts up to here next time...

Chronicling a certain boss battle. Right so it has two phases. Physical attacks which we sort with:
27.png

Leaf swirl (it throws on darkness 50% of the time to enemies that can affected by it; these are), now we need to chip away the top and left ones as at low health this boss uses magic instead. Two of them can be reflected (we got the 4 reflect rings from reflect knight drops took about 30 minutes) so:
29.png

Ideal to help kill the other two who we can't reflect the magic of (in other words its a luck shot as the reflected spells have to target and knock the other parts into low health when we are in a position to kill them before they kill us).

Having troubles with aqua rake and earthquake I remember something. Gaia Gear absorbs Ear...
33.png
34.png

...no, no it doesn't.

Another attempt replacing berserk on my Monk with Focus...it goes well, ish...(Fire is dead and one Earthquake got in before my lucky focus hit got in):
36.png

Then same old breath:
37.png

I'm still aliv...:
38.png

:(

I'm probably going to lower the battle speed for this as at battle speed 1...look at the ATB bars...its able to get into 2 shots before I'm able to finish one turn. Maybe I could get luckier with the hits (!gaia branch spear, reflection, berserker) and/or grind to artful dodger for the Monk (as post grinding they should be able to take 2 hits then its a war of attrition with my elixir supply vs. Areoga & Firaga reflection killing the aqua rate caster) but the attacks coming in too fast is the stumbling block basically (I had a few attempts that were over before they began because I did not get leaf swirl so took too much physical damage). I'm done for today.

Flee!, that I didn't think about that. But still, 650gil in one quick battle, or 750gil if you're lucky in one quick battle

I'm going to keep it at 2 flame rings for now, I have a feeling I'll get a healing 4th job from Gilgabot to troll me.

And stream is on: Since that awful farming is over.

Dancing Dagger is a big help in the Crystal battle, even though Sword Dance is random. Whittling down the Aqua Rake/Earthshaker Crystal to around half HP(~3500 damage) and then hoping for a Sword Dance should make the Crystal beatable in one turn. That's about all I can think of, seeing as you don't have any of the big damage jobs.

Sweet, breezed right on through Calistoferi, Apanda, Azulmagia, Halicarnassus, and Twintania. Now back out of here to recharge my lamp, and I should be good to go!

This is the first time I have good multi target holy based healing on my team so it looks like Bone Mail is going to ride the bench again.

I mean sure, I got Haste/ga, Holy, Protect, Shell, Gravity, Quick, Comet/Meteor, Float, Raise/Araise to make up for it, but I'm gonna miss the mini undead status.

Catastrophe?

Yeah, him too. Knew I was forgetting one. He was a lot simpler than I remember, just keep casting Mighty Guard while the Berserkers attack. Thought I was going to run out of MP, but he went down quicker than I thought.

Got me my Genji Shield. Off for dinner, maybe later tonight I'll try my hand at ExDeath (I suppose I -could- do Necrophobe, but I'd have to leave to recharge my lamp again).
