Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta 2012

edit: yeah chemist bombs count as physical, only actual magic damages him and he only does magic damage, so a reflect ring means he can't touch you and all this damage will be dealt back plus while you chip him away with your red mage and another class with !Red

This is probably the best option. Mix an Elemental Power and some Level Boosters, and throw magic his way.

Last year I had beastmaster and Control was the ability I used the most with it. Especially whenever mean dragons popped up.

Bosses dying montage!
Can anybody help me on the Beastmaster side? Like, give me a breakdown of what can it do?

Get an enemy down to 1/8 of their max HP and use Catch, then save them for a boss. Each monster has it's own move it can use, which I'm sure you could find a list somewhere. The best moves are pretty much regular attacks (which do several thousand damage usually) or moves like Breath Wing/Blaze/Lightning, which do 25% of all enemies' max HP as elemental damage (great for bosses with tons of HP).

Monsters I remember being very good for catch:

- Sand Bear (world 1 desert), regular attack for 2000+
- Zu (near Karnark/Library), does Breath Wing
- Yellow Dragon (Exdeath's Castle), does Lightning
- Ironback (submarine cave that leads to Catoblepas), regular attack for 6000+

As a general rule, if it looks all tough and shit, try catching it and see how it does. If you like it, go catch another and save for the next boss.

He seems to cast Return wit Dragon Breath, which is an elemental attack, unless it's consider physical? If Dark Ether works, I'll have this in the bag.

Does awful damage, but I guess I could mix some things up so it doesn't take 15 minutes.

He does return with Dragon Breath, so I think that's counted as physical.

So he will NOT do return if you use magic? I wasn't sure because of Dragon Breath.

If you do use a Red Mage, remember that elemental rods boost that element (and Magus Rod boosts all elements).

Thanks to everyone's help here I beat 'em. Huzzah!

Don't think I'll bother with the last two underwater areas though. I'll just do some grinding for dragon fangs and stock up my items before heading into the Rift.

heh, so I went back to my 2010 file and beat the fork tower as well.

Any tips I should be aware of? Have a Knight, Red Mage, Geomancer and Chemist.

I saw someone (mangod?) grinding for bells and stuff, also, does anyone have the Mix chart that was flying around in other rounds?

This only seems to affect the most recent picture of each type, which you can see by looking at Arkstralian (who is probably insane).
Good god, that guy's something else. I'm sitting here with waning interest on my second playthrough and he's already on number four!

Just finished it up.

Got like 20 dragon fangs sold everything I didn't need and was barely able to buy 3 running shoes and 2 coral rings. Also bough 99 hi potions.

Characters were

Knight - two hands - Excalibur - Crystal Helm - Crystal Armor - Running shoes
Magic Knight - Mix - Chicken Knife - Crystal Helm - Crystal Armor - Running shoes
Berserker - two hands - Rune Axe - Crystal Helm - Black Suit - Running shoes
Chemist - Mix - heal staff - Circlet - white robe - protect ring

Knight did like 1500-2500 per attack
M Knight did like 2000-3000 per attack and 4000-5000 per flare attack.
Berserker did like 1000-5000 per attack
Chemist never attacked but healed like 300-400

Off to the void.

Those landcrawlers are a pain in the butt. Also killed me a few times in the desert part. Then came the town part and then the forest part.

The elf boss was easy. Spammed attack and flare attack. She did drain a couple times.

Then came the water cave part. Avoided Omega.

Apanda was easy. Spammed attack and Fire 3 attack.

Then came the castle part. Ran to the save found fought the blue mage boss.

Blue Mage boss was easy. They really didn't do any damage that my chemist and her 1000 hp hi potions could overcome.

Saved.

Slowly took out the wizard/dragon bosses. They were a pain because my attackers kept missing the wizard and he kept casting that spell that remove the member from the fight. Dragon part was a joke though as long as I still have 2 party members around. Luckily you can fight them one by one by not opening the door and the save point was just there.

For the last wizard/dragon boss I did the float mix on my chemist and switch to reflect ring before the eyeball boss.

Needless to say eyeball boss was really easy.

Next I collected the rest of the items and fought the girl that kissed you boss.

She frogs you at the beginning but she's pretty slow. She has some powerful spells but was really never a threat since I characters damage is just too high.

NExt is twintania. Switched all the running shoes to coral rings. The effer never did tidal wave once. Still was easy. Excalibur did like 7K+ damage while holy chicken knife did 9999. Berserker continued her 1000-5000 damage while chemist was healing. Never got off a gigaflare either. Also giant drinked my chemist. (I had like 10 and they were going to waste)

Now to the crystal area

Defeated Gilgamesh by just attacking.

Then to the save spot and Necro guy.

Necro guy is rough. Those fish bits flare and holy my ass over and over. Thank god I giant drinked my chemist or she would have died. After killing two of the fish bits though they stop becoming a threat though since they can no lower focus fire on 1 or 2 characters. After that it was easy and Necro went down with the help of gilgamesh.

Final save point and final preparations. (Speaking of which I used 70 hi potions from the start of the void to this point)

Knight - two hands - Excalibur - Crystal Helm - Crystal Armor - Running shoes
Magic Knight - Mix - Chicken Knife - Crystal Helm - Crystal Armor - Running shoes
Berserker - two hands - dance knife - Crystal Helm - Black Suit - Running shoes ( I was gonna switch mid battle back to rune axe but completely forgot you can't switch with berserker mid battle)
Chemist - Mix - heal staff - Circlet - white robe - running shoes

Off to Exdeath.

First part I buffed up did some of this

and this

and this

vxFRP.jpg

and this.

(missing pic but the one where they give you protect and shell)

Easily killed the tree part. Just spamed attack. White hole was the only thing that was annoying but I was fast enough to over come it.

Then came neo exdeath. Spamed magic lamp 3 times for odin. Then killed each part. It was easy. Algamest only did like half damage and my characters were fast enough to overcome them with elixers/hi potions with chemist and mix x-potions. The party's damage was just too high and finished him off quickly.

FINALLY!

MTNWq.png

I just beat Neo Exdeath after spending maaaany hours on him.

My strategy ended up being fairly simple: Just wail on Exdeath until Neo Exdeath comes out, then use Break Spellblade to take care of the bottom part that casts Almagest. That's important, because otherwise I wouldn't really be able to recover. Then, beat on the middle bit that does Grand Cross with my Mystic Knight (with Flare Spellblade) and Dancer. One thing that really surprised me is how my Dancer ended up being my main damage dealer, but a somewhat reliable 9999 damage with a Chicken Knife Sword Dance is pretty good.

Anyway, I would use my Ranger and Monk mostly for support, reviving and healing my other two, and sometimes each other. The Grand Cross part probably took me the longest to get rid of. Then, repeat for the front part. Finally, I used Odin from the Magic Lamp to take out the back, which was a godsend because I don't think I could've handled another part.

My characters were as follows:

Bartz: Dancer - HP +30% - Chicken Knife (maxed out) - Ribbon - Rainbow Dress (gotta maximize those Sword Dances) - Hermes Sandals (quick attacks are lovely)

Lenna: Monk - Equip Ribbons - Ribbon - Mirage Vest - Kaiser Knuckles (she actually wasn't that bad, could do about 2300 damage a turn)

Krile (I miss Galuf): Ranger - Rapid Fire (didn't actually use on Neo Exdeath) - Artemis Bow - Black Cowl - Black Garb - Elven Mantle

Faris: Mystic Knight - Rapid Fire (again, didn't use) - Enhancer - Crystal Shield (I actually meant for her to use the Aegis shield for extra protection, it must have gotten lost in an optimization) - Crystal Helm - Crystal Armor - Reflect Ring

Finally, though this won't be accurate as I *ahem* sped up some of the gameplay, it reports that I've played this game for a whopping 30 hours, 30 minutes! For more meaningless stats, I killed 65% of the Bestiary (including 561 Nutkin, you can tell what I used to ABP grind), and ended the game with 423,431 Gil (aside from the Mystic Knight, there's not really much to spend on with my party).

This was a fun way to get introduced to the game (and honestly, the genre: I've never beaten and barely ever played a JRPG before this), I might do a run on Hard Mode in a week or so.

Knight, Magic Knight Berserker, Chemist party was OK. It had good synergy and was a very good damage dealer. Very good for boss. Not great for regular fights where theres a lot of enemies. Really boring party. Basically spammed attack.

Knight - Made earlier parts very easy. A ton of damage and his flame tongue (Which I used until Excalibur) was a Godsend in act 2. 2 Hands were amazing for the M- Knight and Berserker. Too bad knight doesn't get this as inate.

M-Knight - MVP. Magic sword is broken for bosses. Can make the hardest bosses jokes. Works great with two hands and later with chicken knife and flare sword.

Berserker - Biggest surprise in the party. Really makes me rethink whose the worst class in the game. At no point throughout the game did I ever think man it suck to have a berserker. Always the highest damager until the chicken knife and excalibur appeared. Good with 2 hands. Still missed too much for comfort though

Chemist - Best class in the game by far. Well I should say mix is the best skill in the game by far since the chemist itself sucks. Bad stats and equips. I tried to only use mix in tough situations where I'm having trouble so I wasn't spamming mix left and right. Chemist not using mix was nothing more than a healer with heal staff and items. Boring how I played it since any other way would be way OP.

Twintania is the only rift boss that's been a problem so far, since gigaflare hits harder than I expected through mighty guard. The second try I was prepared with double-HP chemistry, but an assassin's dagger proc killed the boss just before gigaflare fired. Oh well.

Smooth sailing from there. Necrophobe couldn't hurt me through mighty guard, and plenty of blue magic (not to mention dragon fang + holy water mix) pierces reflect. Exdeath is the only thing left, but he'll have to wait until tomorrow.

so if I wanna do hard mode do I just tweet #reghard? Do I need to wait to be certified?

Ok I have no idea how to use twitter so I hope this is good enough for you RK!

RK, I don't know if you're reading this, but your "play again" method breaks the win pictures.

Example: http://www.letsplaying.com/FF5FF/img/victory/omega/blakelmenakle.png is the image, but clicking on the gear takes you to http://www.letsplaying.com/FF5FF/img/victory/omega/blakelmenakle-1.png

Thanks, but I know! I just have to go fix it. Some people are fixed but not everyone. More people are replaying than I expected.

Yeah, I hopefully will get a batch done tonight but they boy has a fever so I'm a tad busy.

Welp, seems I can't survive 2 tidal waves after each other with no healing in between.

I had hoped to pre-emptively kill Leviathan but he had more than 26k HP.
So I had to go buy 2 coral rings. It's not like I wouldn't have to buy them later on for Shinryu anyways.

Update Time!

Here's a photo album to follow along with: FFV Album

-Entered the Void: I admit I ran from a ton of battles. The first couple of areas, I did actually fight off the enemies, but ran in almost area up until the end.
-Forest boss down: Easy fight.
-Omega: NOPE.
-Azulmagia: Not too bad. Reflect Rings and Bard songs helped save the day.
-Catastrophe: Fuck this boss. Without Float, he kills the party in about 2 attacks. So I had to backtrack out, confuse a Stingway to get Mighty Guard on my party, and then trek back and lay the smackdown on its ass. Ugh.
-Hali: Other than being Frogs, not too bad surprisingly. Added lulz for him using Holy only to have it reflect and hit him for 9000+ damage.
-Twintania: Took a few tries before I could survive into the Giga Flare stage. Then I used Death. GG.
-Shinryu: Just tried for lulz. Failed horribly.
-Necrophobe: Another annoying fight. Reflected Break worked wonders, then he started to massacre my party. As noted in the picture, I barely survived thanks to my bro Gilgamesh.

So now I'm at Exdeath, and he's wrecking my shit up. Physicals hit damn hard and he loves spamming White Hole to insta-kill and Stone. Not cool.

Any suggestions on what to do?

What jobs do you have?

Hermes Sandals worked really well for me, and if you happen to have a Dancer, Ribbons are good for avoiding White Hole. Also, Reflect Rings are definitely worth it.

He has Thief, Monk, Bard and Black Mage.

Definately a tough party and I don't know much about them to help you out sorry!

Maybe you could have all your party at back row and have Black Magic do the damage? Of course, keep the buffing going with the Bard.

Yeah, I've got Thief, Monk, Bard and Black Mage. Got Reflect Rings, but those don't help avoid Physicals and White Hole. Got 1 pair of Hermes Sandals and 4 Flame Rings.

I'll try that. I've been trying to buff with Sing, but whoever does it is normally killed off. I'll experiment a bit.

Buy Fire Rings, have Bard and Monk sing for the first part (speed and hero are most important) and have Mage and Thief recover, using Firaga healing.

High enough level, and White Hole misses.

You have bard. Thats like insta win against Exdeath.

For the exdeath first part. Put everyone in the back row and give everyone black magic. Equip the singer with hermes shoes. Use speed song first and then hero song and the magic song.

Do nothing but defend and heal with your other characters. After a bit your speed will be so fast that your characters go 4 times before he does. Then switch to hero song to up your damage and then up your damage more with magic song. Then just spam flare.

Song buffs stay when you die as well to the next part of the battle.

Hermes Sandals on everyone, Speed Song and Hero's Rime (totally worth putting Sing on someone else). If a singer dies, bring them back and keep singing. Song effects should persist through death..
Don't the effects of songs where the person keeps singing afterward end when they stop singing?

Dragon Aevis in the Rift (very common in a later section) drop them all the time (or at least it felt that way *doesn't have a chemist*)

Beat him. Damn hard and definitely got lucky.
Got the "Human" and "Beast" parts downed quick thanks to Break and Odin, but the other two were pretty nasty. Mostly since if only one part remains, the other goes batshit on you with Meteo. Managed to kill them both within the same turn, so I got VERY lucky there.

Funny enough, I managed to kill a dummy target with Shoat from the Magic Lamp. I literally thought I'd killed the front target when that happened.

Sadly, Butz and Lenna didn't survive the fight and were left to rot in the Void...or so it seemed.

So,
what happens with the ending if Krile dies in the final battle
?

I heard that someone else writes the letter. There are all sorts of little changes depending on who makes it out and who doesn't. I think you can look it up somewhere, actually.

Alright, I finally finished. The Civ 5 expansion did its best to stop me this year, but the cause is too important. And blue mage + chemist is too broken. Seriously, Exdeath was a total pushover thanks to haste, double HP, and mighty guard (and magic lamp, and the bard dealing 9999 damage to the middle bit with Apollo's Harp). Sadly, Krile fell victim to a tragic photography mishap during the end sequence.

Lots of fun again this year. Big props to rk for organizing such a great event.

Got Summoner for my Water Crystal job, but I'm concerned it will make the game too easy. Then again, all the Water jobs have something that makes them great. Even Berserker can use those Death Sickles. I guess I'll just stick with it.

Is there an item that gives Float? This earthquaking eyeball is kicking my ass without float (Monk/Red/Geo/Knight).

How desperate are you? It's possible to confuse the cats at north mountain or a stingray and get float, but you then have to go to that point in the rift without using an inn, tent, or cottage.

Ugh not that desperate considering he will probably just use the anti-Float thing right away anyway. I will just keep giving it a go until the RNG gods bless me by not having two earthquakes in a row.

Not really sure what I am going to do about Twin Tania though, I have a feelings lots of Gigaflare is in my future.

Red Mage, right? Toad! Or that^
Toad worked awesome, thanks for the tip! Tried Assassin's Dagger for awhile but of course I could never get a proc.
Yeah, though then you have to go back and recharge the lamp if you want him for Neo Exdeath.
I have never used the Magic Lamp before, worth trekking out of the Rift to get it for Neo Exdeath? I had a super easy time last year so I just played through the game without learning any tricks really.

Yeah, there must be. In my game, Faris wrote the letter and was mostly talking about how she missed Lenna. Butz only got a mention when Faris said that Boko was waiting for him. Then her and Krile were gonna go off in search of them.

In a low-power party it is absolutely worth it. That's 60k-ish damage you don't have to do during the hardest part of the fight. Whether you want to take that section first or last is up to you, but if you decide to take it first, be warned you're going to have to deal with either Grand Cross or Almagest for the entire rest of the fight.
