Final Fantasy Five Four Job Fiesta 2012

Doesn't Blood Sword work like Vampire, in that it does damage equal to Max HP-Current HP, and misses if you have full HP?

It has a shitty hit rate, but it will still do regular melee damage and heal you even if you are full. Also, it is great with Rapid Fire because you won't miss.

no wonder it never does any damage for me >_>

So I guess I'm going out to find a stingray to cast might guard on me so I can float against catastrophe.

Redoing the challenge on hard mode.

Gotta maximize donations as much as possible :)

First crystal class is............ Black Mage

Nice. Never had a black mage before. This should be fun. Multitarget spells + rob breakage.

Hopefully all 4 of my classes are new. My first run I had 3 of 4 classes as repeats. RK should add a script in there where you can't get repeat classes or the randomizer only chooses classes you have completed the game least with command.

I'm considering doing another playthrough following the one I'm currently finishing (in the Rift). Not sure I could do it immediately after - a two week break would be a nice breather.

And Time Mage for the earth crystal job. I pretty much never use this class in "normal" runs, so this is going to be one of my first chances to see what haste does during the middle part of the game.

My party: Black Mage/Blue Mage/Thief/Red Mage.

Once I hit World 3, everything was gravy. Osmosis let me spam spells with impunity, and I finally grabbed a set of Fire Rings so I'd actually have decent healing. I grabbed Mighty Guard (didn't realize it was so rare!) and Flare (Firaga with a Fire Rod does more damage, but the non-elementaliness has been useful) and went straight for the Void, not even bothering to refill my Magic Lamp. Cruised through with no issues (although Gilgamesh never showed up for his heroic sacrifice; did I miss a boss?)... until I got to Neo Exdeath. Where I've run into a problem I'm not sure I can overcome.

My emulator keeps crashing.

I'm pretty sure this is the same setup I used last year, so I'm hoping I can still beat him somehow. I ran back to refill my Lamp, which I believe I used for Odin; hopefully killing one part quickly will keep the emulator from panicking? It seems like it's just getting overwhelmed, so maybe simplifying the battle will help.

But that's the only idea I have that doesn't involve starting all over with a different emulator. Any suggestions?

Whew, beat Shiva right after Garula (so no rods or Ifrit) with a Thief and 3 Summoners. Pretty much had to Remora all the Ice Commanders and use Sylph over and over to keep HP, while occasionally tossing the Thief a Phoenix Down so Shiva would spend her turns killing him with Blizzara. Was harder than anything from my previous game, for sure.

although Gilgamesh never showed up for his heroic sacrifice; did I miss a boss?
Yes. He won't show up in the rift if he was never sent there to begin with. If you don't open the (empty) Excalipoor chest that fight never happens.

Which emulator are you using exactly? Most are cross-compatible with saves.

I've really been slacking off with this, but I managed to beat all the Rift Demons yesterday. Got a full set of Genji gear and am thinking of fighting Shinryu next. Can Ragnarok be used by non-Knights anyway? Oh, and can a Berserked Shinryu be beaten without Blink? I really don't want to resort to the Mirage Vest exploit.

After that, I need to go back out to get Odin and Phoenix.
Yes. He won't show up in the rift if he was never sent there to begin with. If you don't open the (empty) Excalipoor chest that fight never happens.
He also might not appear if you kill Necro too fast after his Barriers have gone down.

Shinryu can be blinded, though it'll probably be difficult to hit him with it. Also, if you can get Mini'd, you'll double your evasion, which if you have the Genji Shield, means you'll have 100% evasion. Of course, you'll need a way to deal damage that isn't physical cuz you're attack power is dropped to nothing.

How do you get toad for Red Mage? I think you need to capture a toad to get it but I have Ninja Thief Red and Dragoon.

A battle of attrition with 99 Phoenix Downs, a Mini'd Genji Shield Mystic Knight and a constantly dying Chicken Knife+Mug Thief/Black Mage with Hermes Boots. Sounds enticing. I've got to try this one out.

In the town of Istory (the one near the big waterfall), there's a little patch of flowers. Run a lap in the flowers and a little frog pops out and teaches you Toad. If you don't get it then, you'll have to wait a loooooong time before you can get it again.

Thanks!

Pretty much mopping the floor in World 2 with a party of Monk/Time Mage/Bard/Dragoon. Been starting to run from regular battles as well, so my Bard can Jump with the Chicken Knife (and boy, does World 2 go by quick if you run from battles!).

!Flee cuts the average completion time by about half. My favourite skill in the game. And level does not matter too much in the end, as long as your job combination isn't horrid.

but i want everyone to know how awesome I am!
Sorry for the confusion. But you can only tweet a certain number of times per day and Gilgabot already went mute for a while one day do I'm being careful.

The system for reregistering will be improved next year. It was a quick hack this year becaue I thought only a few people would do it like last year, but I was mistaken!

Wasn't planning to enter this year, but oh well...

Tried to keep everyone alive, but it didn't work out.

It's weird that no matter what strategy I first try against NeoExdeath it always fails completely. Also used Wonder Wand once when I was about to win not knowing what it did.

Holy hell, I planned to do Omega on the way but I think I'm going to skip him for now.

Yes my Black Mage can hurt him like hell: dualcast thundaga on my whole party (all with reflect rings). But I can only do that once before he slaughters my whole team.

Black Mage - Red Mage - Knight - Thief

I'm thinking if I go with hermes shoes, I should be able to hit some more, and I'll have to use the magic lamp for Carbuncle who should be pre-set, but I still think I'll be lacking the healing power to keep it up long enough for my Black Mage to have 4 turns.
And that would also necessitate that my whole party stays alive for the full duration, which seems impossible.

Any ideas?

Off the top of my head, the simplest solution would probably be if everyone had Reflect Rings and !Black, with the Black Mage having Dual Cast. Carbuncle doesn't last forever, sadly. Spend the first several turns healing yourself with hi-potions until he uses Search (you might need several tries just to survive all his moves). When he uses Search, he sort of "locks-on" to whoever it hit, but if you have Reflect, it'll hit him, so any counter attack he uses will be on himself (this lock-on ends when he uses Flamethrower/Atomic Ray/Rainbow Wind). This is when you'd want everyone to use Thundaga, Also, I believe he starts with Shell on, so if you manage to get a chance to Dispel him, go for it.

If you find you aren't getting enough turns in, have 1 or 2 people wear Hermes Sandals. You'll be vulnerable to Atomic Ray, Blaster, Delta Attack, and Search, though, so maybe that should be either your Thief (even more turns) and/or Knight (Flame/Aegis Shield). Sometimes you'll also need to hang tight if someone has a turn because you know he'll use Wave Cannon, so they'll be ready to throw potions immediately after.

edit: Also, you may want your mages to wear Sage's Surplice, which is the only way to prevent Silence. Defense/Magic Defense won't make a difference in this fight anyway.

Oh just wait for his search first, okay I'll try that. Thanks

edit: Haha nope, he gave me a good ass-whooping again multiple times.
If I don't use 1 Hermes Sandals, I can't get to the search phase with more than 2 alive.
I I do use one, that goes fine but he ends his counter-attack on himself right after the first volley of Thundaga's.
The Atomic Ray on himself reflects and then gets past my reflect of course which kills another one of my party and then I'm left with two dead and not enough speed to heal again.

I'll try the 1 Hermes Sandals strategy some more, it could work. It was just that one character was always dead right before he searched.

A winner is me! I have many more pics I could post, but I'll just give the essentials.

Red Mage with !Sing, Chemist with !Mix, Bard with !Dualcast and Knight with Two-Handed.

Started the battle off using the magic lamp for Odin to kill the end piece off. Bartz did mostly singing with a little healing. Faris used Blessed Kiss on Lenna, Giant Drinks on everyone, other buffs and some offensive mixes. Krile used Dualcast to put protect on, heal and some additional singing. Lenna eventually was hitting each part for 9999 damage.

21 and 19.

I fell asleep for an hour or two of the 21 after watching RK marathon the game, and had to grind anyways because it was four White Mages.

It's a huge pain if you don't have certain jobs, I've noticed, and there's definitely an element of luck to it. Here's his AI:

Code:
- 33% chance of either Atomic Ray, Delta Attack or Blaster
- Wave Cannon
- 33% chance of either Rainbow Wind, Flame Thrower or Atomic Ray
- Wave Cannon
- No interrupt:
33% chance of either Delta Attack, Blaster or Wave Cannon
33% chance of either Maelstrom, Earthquake or Rainbow Wind
- Search (save target until end next turn, includes counters)
- 33% chance of either Rainbow Wind, Flame Thrower or Atomic Ray (on Search
  target)
- Wave Cannon
  (loop)

Counterattack to all HP damage:
- No interrupt:
  Target: Random target
33% chance of either Rocket Punch, Rocket Punch or Mustard Bomb
33% chance of either Rocket Punch, Rocket Punch or Encircle

If you're not using Reflect, you'll need Fire protection for Atomic Ray, or you will lose that person. This means either Aegis Shield and get lucky (33% chance to block), or Flame Shield. The only other hope is to cast Reflect, which you can't do more than twice (Lamp Carbuncle, Wonder Wand). I guess you could have Equip Shield for someone else, and just use single target Thundaga. The plus side is you won't need to use hi-potions for that character and can just dual cast Cura's to heal even quicker. This is more defensive and will make the fight go a lot longer, as really only 1 or 2 people will be able to deal damage, but you'll be able to survive provided you don't get unlucky. You may need to use a couple elixirs when the HP or MP gets dangerously low, though.

Apparently being Mini'd doesn't mess with the Apollo Harp still being super OP vs Dragons and Undead. One of the fun parts of my final battle.

The attack animation was kinda funny too, since my Mini'd Faris would punch, followed up by the harp music. Was still hitting for ~9000+ damage a hit on the "Dragon" target. :D

How long does a playthrough take you? I am going to finish at about 30 hours and I can't imagine you are anywhere near that if you have the fortitude to do 3 in one year.

Round 1 for me was 19 hours, even doing things like grinding for flame rings (with a black mage), maxing out the chicken knife, and leveling up to an average level of 41. I would say my second run will be shorter since I'm doing none of these things, but I'm not running from anything, which makes the game much longer. (I will have teleport, however.)

Aside from those bullshit lava floors, the Sea Trench wasn't all that bad. Throwing !Sing on my apparently useless Dragoon made all the difference.

If you don't have some sort of holy magic or !sing then the trench is the most annoying dungeon in the game.

Fairly useless too unless you have Time magic as there is an easy source for stealing kaiser knuckles in other places.

BAH!!!!!

After smooth sailing all the way through the rift, my last play session was VERY frustrating. First that boss at the save point with the four barriers, I got NAILED with my White/Red/Geo/Dragoon team. It was basically Curaga Curaga Curaga while my Dragoon trying to dwindle down the barriers one by one.

Then I wiped on Neo Exdeath. I thought it was smooth sailing with my double cast Holy, and I could handle the Almageist and Grand Cross. It wasn't until the last one I got hit with the Meteor mayhem that I couldn't keep up with the healing/raise.

I shall take him down today and claim my victory!!

I am getting wrecked by Neo Exdeath, even with Dualcast on everyone I have no chance of outhealing his damage. Anyone have some good tips? I am currently in my mid 40's so I don't think I am underleveled.

Edit: Group is Monk/Red/Geo/Knight

Edit 2: Woo I won! Hermes Sandals on everyone made it doable and managed to keep everyone alive at the end. Only real spot of trouble I ran into was old on my Knight three times which made things even more painfully slow. I think I used about 25 elixirs but a win is a win.

Thanks to everyone for all the tips who helped throughout, really appreciate it.

Use the magic lamp until golem. Cast Protect on everyone during Exdeath's first form. Give your Geomancer the rune chime or air knife and keep using Gaia. Break rods with the Red Mage or use him for healing. Keep everyone in the back row. Equip the Aegis shield (both of them if you can) and just keep on healing and fighting back. Focus on the bottom section with the knight if he can attack.
