Final Fantasy III DS - Official US Topic

Don't feel bad, I had the same problem :P Took a while, and sometimes those skeletons still take out a good portion of my HP... WTF is wrong with the MP in this game? It's so LOW! 5 MP for a White Mage? WTF is with that? BTW, I just
opened the way to the lower part of the map, where the stone was
.

Don't worry -- your job level increases very rapidly in the early parts, and it doesn't take long for BMs/WMs to get a nice stash of low-level MP.

Anyone here have a clue as to how well FFIII will do in the US?

Not well enough. :/

I'd like to see it reach the sort of sales level that FFTA (the only original FF RPG on the GBA) got, which was around 660k.

What I like about this remake is that it comes full circle and takes a nod to Final Fantasy XI, which in turn took a nod at III when it was first release. FFXI's plot in the main game and expansion 1 and job system mirrors in many ways III. III of course is the genesis of a lot of things in FF today, but no game since III has followed it so closely as XI.

If any of you have played XI, the 3-D upgrade of III has allowed S-E to put in little graphical nods to XI, everything from Viking's Provoke animation (Provoke is a Job ability given to Warriors) to White Mage (protect) and of course, the job specific aesthetics in mirrroed closely in XI's artifact armor set that players collect at level 60 then again at level 75 as the relic set.

Wow, my thoughts exactly.
These boards have usually been rather FFXI-negative so I didn't dare making such comparisons. :lol

Talking about resemblance of job aesthetics with FFXI's AF, why is it that the DRG in FFIII is gold/blue? Even in FFIV they had Kain as blue/purple.

But yea, having played FFXI before FFIII I've found it really heart-warming how many similarities there are throughout. Even simple stuff like the blue spark effect made when you strike an enemy with swords/daggers, much like it is in FFXI. I've also noticed that when you attack using staves the effect is virtually identical to Hexa Strike in FFXI.

Maybe it justs looks better. I don't like the look of the DRG AF in XI, even though it evokes visual allusions to FFIV.

Yes, and the critical hits have the same animation too. The summons, Shiva in particular looks similar to XI.

Hey I'm going to start adding people in this thread, so heads up!
My code is 3222 0725 6168.
I can't decide whether to use Dark Knight or Dragoon..

added ColonelT and Taaakun. Still only Mejilan and Daike aren't just a bunch of gray numbers. Get on people!

Just got the game, and thus far I've just got the
Wightslayer
.

Graphics are great, although I was expecting a little more from the opening movie. The characters are cute and likable. So far enjoyable. Grinding a bit for the next dungeon.

excellent review

They gave it a higher score than FFXII, GT credibility confired. I don't get these publications (Famitsu included) that give every new FF a perfect 10s or some ridiculously high score because they were probably won over by the nostalgia, the high production values and CG graphics. XII is such a wonky game, its basically FFXI off-line with stupid party AI.

I thought the opening movie was nostalgic and true to the series' roots. It would have been nice to take a nod at most if not all of the game's jobs but the intro would have been 10 minutes long (w).

Edit: Added the following

Taaakun
djtiesto
ColonelT

That's because of Hiromichi Tanaka. He did the game design for the original FFIII, produced FFXI, and is producer/director of FFIII DS. Not to mention the art director from FFXI also worked on the project.

I just picked up the game, but have not played yet. I suppose I will be adding (?) people soon?

I just began playing it yesterday.

Everyone, what's the point of the friends stuff other than sending messages?

A quick note: having the overworld map on the upper screen has improved my enjoyment of this game 10 fold. I know that it sucks that the second screen is black so often, but I could never finish FF 1 or 2 because I would play infrequently and couldn't remember where the **** to go.

Also, anyone using a warrior should definitely have the Blood Sword equipped as it has an attack of 55, but more importantly, it sucks hit points out of the enemies. I'm doing damage of about 1500-3000 per attack and gaining 300 hit points per.

I get lost soooooo much in FF that I end up WAY over-leveled for most of the middle of games.

Well this game promotes leveling, you can spend hours just leveling all the different jobs you unlock. I never had this probably when I played though the game the first time. In fact, i was underleveled (on my jobs) with my preferred set-up.

i have some n00b questions you guys will be able to help me with.

red mage, whats it specialize in?

when can a white mage start learning better spells other than cure?

why is it, my main character, when i equip him with ANY weapon, his attack power goes down? hes stronger with bare hands wtf (hes a red mage)

can a white mage cast summons? and what weapons do white mages use

lol, the red mage specializes in nothing and everything, he can use white magic (cure, raise) and black magic (fire, thunder, ice) and has some phisical talent (almost like a thief, without the agi boost).

rod said:
so red mage is pretty much an all rounder?

yep, but he doesn't excel in any magic or phisical battle in particular, though, if this is your first time playing this game, i recomend you get one so it can backup the other mages, but it will be costly

O0oh wow, I haven't turned the game on yet but thanks for the ads... I will accept you guys probably tomorrow :D Enjoy the game, I know I certainly am!

white mage is a support character they are not for attacking, I suggest you ALWAYS have one in your party makes things easier

until you get the devout class of course

Well I finally figured out why the reviewers whined so much about the difficulty.
Really late in the game questions.
Holy shit, at the Cloud of Darkness! Xande barely injured my party and I defeated him in two rounds. Then I'm thrown right away into another boss fight and the game doesn't even heal my characters directly after, unlike all the other boss fights in the game. Only one of my attacks affected the Cloud of Darkness and the bitch wiped my party out with 2 attacks, a lightning one and a particle beam. I'm guessing that I'm severely under-leveled for end-game as I'm at 48 on all characters, but the game hasn't been that difficult up until now. Yeah, I've died a couple times, but it was due to mistakes on my part not getting crushed in one turn by a beast of a baddie.
Now to the questions.

1)What level do you have to be to beat this thing?

2)Any tips on what will or will not damage her?

yeah ive made one a white mage. why do red mages suck later on in the game? and also, i wanna have one of my characters RELALY GOOD at physical attacks, another doing support/white magic, one casting black magic/summons and one with just like everything. not bad at anything but no specialties. would a red mage/warrior/black mage/white mage combo be any good?

my set up was like this

Luneth got the heavy hitters classes like Dragoon, Knight, Monk etc...
Arc got the offensive magic classes like Black Mage, Evoker, Summoner, Magus
Refia was the support/heal character White Mage, Devout
Ingus was my all around character I use him for a lot of classes like he started as a Red Mage then I change him into a Scholar after that a thief and then I changed him to Ninja I think dont remember if I used him for anything else.

Well, I'm at
the base of the Dragon's Peak, gearing up to go after Desch.

So far I have two particular moments in the game which just stick out in my mind:

a) When in the Sealed Cave, and you talk with Princess Sara. The Luneth/Refia convo was really cute. The facial expressions are simply lovable.

The second would be
after they've been charged with the task of saving the world by the crystal, and then some credits roll while the classic Final Fantasy music plays. I love that music...
.

So far I've added everyone up through taaakun, but everyone is still greyed out except for Lord Helmet (Jay) and Mejilan (150407957452). I've connected to MOGnet several times but it doesn't seem to be updating my contact list with people who have added me. So far I've only gotten mail from Lord Helmet. (Thanks man!)

Not the best place for an intro thread, but I figured I would stop lurking!
