Final Fantasy III DS - Official US Topic

Loving the game so far, battles can feel a bit slow but its not bad enough to stop me from enjoying the game. I'm at the point in the game where I can actually get some use out of the mognet sidequests, so here's my friend code 339386884130

If anyone wants to kick around a few mails feel free to add me :) Ill add a bunch of you that have already posted their codes.

I've added you. Add me, 3350 9156 7920 (Jay).

Regarding claims of challenge, is that mostly meant to say you need to grind a lot, or can you actually go through the game without really grinding and get a good challenge out of it from tactical decisions and job management without it being tediously frustrating?

I'm @ the crystal tower now.

Got
Viking - Damage dealer
Sage - Nuke/back up heal
Devout - Main heal
Black Belt or Dragoon - Damage dealer

Black Belt is like job lvl 20, dishes out damage like mad, but takes dmg like a baby.

What did everybody use for jobs at the crystal tower? Boo to having to back track 2 dungeons to heal everybody.

I went with Magus, Devout, Ninja and Dragoon.

Is FF3 really that hardcore of a RPG where you need to level grind a lot? I've heard that from a lot of people.

From my experience, I only had to grind for some boss that owend my ass, and for the last boss.

i never grinded and i was able to reach the end though i wish that i would have grinded for the final boss so i could have saved those 2 hours :/

Whats the average length of this game? Im having a blast but I just got world opened up to me and map seems really small. Like I already did 50 percent already. Hopefully that is misleading and like FF5 there is multiple maps otherwise I cant seem myself having more then two jobs before finish this.

Odin
tho, any advice?, my party setup is Viking, BLM, WHM and DRG (lvl34-35).
Heal every turn and attack like a mad man, it should do it

I just got the Gungnir after 4 lousy tries. It was worth it though! My dragoon is a beast now!

btw: I've added you Lord Helmet and Megabyte.

Just got this yesterday also for Christmas and DAMN. I am impressed. I'm loving it so far. I'll put up my friend code once I'm done with this level in Kirbyp

Just got this for xmas too and i'm loving it also. I LOVE me some traditional FF. Quick question though, when do i unlock more jobs? right now i only have a few. I keep seeing people talking about ninjas, vikings and all that. I'm about 3 1/2 hrs in

OK, so I just got to the
Temple of Time
and the difficulty cranked up a ton. I'm working with a Knight, Theif, WM, and Geomancer. I'm killing everyone fine and all, but the enemies basically quadrupled their hit points.

I'm keeping my WM throughout the whole game - she's a level 61 now. But, I just can't find any other good jobs I like. I tried the Dragoon, but the special ability "Jump" didn't seem very powerful and it leaves the enemy an extra turn.

I haven't opened up any jobs past the bard, so maybe there are some cooler jobs later on. The Knight takes forever to level up his job.

Any advice? Also, what percentage am I through the game and how do I get to
Odin
?

Jump's usefulness is tied to Job Level. Job Level your Dragoon a bit. Besides, he does good enough damage with the basic attack anyhow.

If you want to speed Job Levelling up, have the, enter an easy fight and just spend a few rounds guarding.

Any advice? Also, what percentage am I through the game and how do I get to
Odin

Don't bother with him unless you have a thief at Job Level 71 or above. And you're around halfway through.

While in the water with the Nautilus, use Sight or a Gnomish Bread to see some hidden underwater locations. You'll find a mini cave with A LOT of treasures (and a trident for the Dragoon job) and the cave closer to the Temple of Time is where you will find Odin.
I have an Dragoon myself. With some great equipments and a good job level, it's Jump ability will become quite useful in the boss battles.

Someone was dissing the scholar? :O
I used THF/FTR/SCH/GEO for a decent chunk of the game. Good damage dealing, low on the MP needing, but I did need to keep a heavy stock of potions.
If the DS didn't have so many good RPGs coming my way, I would consider replaying this with some of the "weaker" classes.

I just got this for x-mas yesterday and it rocks hard especially the opening FMV!!!!

But the sad thing is i lost the save file due to quicksave whatever that piece of
shit
is but BIG F U Square-enix.

Does anyone knows how to save on this game?

in the world map

This and Gears of War were my two videogame Christmas gifts (told people to de-emphasize games this year).

Really liking this one, very nicely integrated use of the stylus for most everything.

I had actually gotten this for the gift-giver because of the TrU one-day $20 special, so I knew this was coming...:D

Just killed the second boss and picked my jobs:

Main Dude: Red Mage
Arc: White Mage
Girl: Black Mage
Pretty Boy: Thief

Is that a good party?

Did anyone else loose that Widowsword after they got the jobs? I just don't have it in my items anymore and I have not a clue as of why not.

In my opinion... there are no advance magic to be learned early in the game. As such, I personally saw no need to have a dedicated White and Black Mage. I just went with two Red Mages and a Knight and a Thief.

Damn, I was making my way through
Eureka
, then right before I picked up
Ragnarok
, the freaking game crashed on me!!! Grrrrr!

Quick question though, about the final dungeon:

After defeating Xande and going to the final area in space, where you fight the 4 bosses and then the Dark Cloud, can you Teleport out of there, without having to fight the bosses before Dark Cloud again? I was thinking of finishing the dungeon in spurts, beating a few of the bosses at a time, because I remember the end boss being a pain in the arse.

Also what classes did you guys use to beat the Dark Cloud?

That is exactly what happened to me. Actually, I grinded a little bit before going into the actual tower.

That being said there is no way I will redo the tower and the shadow realm again just to fight the last boss.

WTF no save anywhere in there.

At least I liked the 35 hrs leading up to it.

Can someone PM me what the ending is because I'm not going to play it anymore.

I believe once you get in the mirror you can get out. I had Red Mage, Devout, Viking, and knight.

That´s what i´d like to know:
How about the save points in the game? I heard you have to re-do a full dungeon if the boss kills you. Is that true? sounds freaking awful, or are the dungeons so small?

the dungeons are pretty small last one excluded

Question: In the Status screen, if some of the Stats are green - does that mean it's capped and will not increase until I level up my character(s)/Job Level? Or is it something else?

Stat bonus from some equipment, I think.

Yikes. If I die on the last boss, I'm going to lose like 3-4 hours of gametime? Is there not a way to get out of the land of darkness back to the crystal tower? What level were some of you when you beat the last boss? All the guides say use Ninja with shuikens, but I don't have a ninja

Eh just died on Salamander boss(boss when in Molten Cave where Fire Crystal is)

So is anyone playing who will add my friend code? I'll add ya, just tell me
