Final Fantasy Type-0 HD CE announced - $99

Fuck it, I preordered it just because they don't charge until later on. When its march I'll see what sort of funds I have and if I'll stick with it or go with a standard copy.

That's actually a lotta stuff.

But is it worth $100? I sure don't think so.

Might get it for the soundtrack. Will have to think about it.

I should've imported the OST before it went out of print on cdjapan. :(

The OST isn't out of print, you can get it a a bunch of importers from what I have seen, and this "OST" is just 15 tracks the full OST has 3 discs. I love LE's and especially for Final Fantasy but not giving me the full OST is a no buy for me, cheaper to import it and buy the game seperate

Lol, Square Enix Europe online shop just changed the price of their preorder...
I preordered it for 89,90 euros and now cost 99,90 euros.

What will happen for those like me that preordered it for cheaper? Will get our order cancelled or we're lucky?

I contacted Square Enix on this matter for people like me that had the game preordered for the first price, cheaper compared to now. They told me I'll not pay the extra charge and the order will remain as it is shipping on the right date. I hope is true and they don't mess this up.

Wow. I need that PS4 lol.

I would pay a lot of money for that themed PS4...

What you folks need to do is come visit the Buy/Sell/Trade thread, where your wishes will come true.
I have the Type-0 first printing OST, which is absolutely amazing, for sale, though it's well-used, and I'm also going to sell my FF14-themed PS4 (not Type-0, but similar in style) because I just won't have time to use it until early spring.

Can only hope the XV CE is as good as this.

Sod that! It has to be better.

I'm talking a full sized artbook and complete OST at minimum. Even the Type 0 PSP CE had the full OST.

Extras for XV could be pin badge set of the various regions or small scale model of the car.

Expect a nice deluxe set for Japan. Expect it to be trimmed down for the west.

£80 for CE.

£38.16 for normal edition from US PSN.

Impossible to justify that premium. £60 I might have been tempted, £50 I'd be 100% in, but £80 is just too damn high. And tbh my personal experience of CEs has been that they're space takers. I hardly look at them, and I've bought everything digital this gen. and it looks like I'll continue that trend.

A hardbook guide would be a better investment as a Collector's item imo.

Expensive editions of games that come with a "selection of" tracks instead of the whole OST make me a sad panda.

I mean sure, it's not hard to find the whole thing online or whatever, but give me the whole OST and I'd buy the CE without a second thought.

Why not just sell that LE PS4?!?! I'm sure it would sell like crazy.

They better make a Final Fantasy XV Limited Edition PS4.

I really hope it'll be sold somewhere else, SE officially denied me of buying it from their stores from what Support told me... =/

One of my favorite FF. Combat is great, story is solid, and these new graphics look brilliant.

Outside the battle what there's to do? Every single trailer seems to tell this game is just about battles (like XIII), is there anything beside that? Is there variety enough to keep the game going for 40 hrs+?

Don't know if this has been posted before but at least in the US the CE is not Square Enix online store exclusive, Gamestop also has it but it's labeled as online only.

Edit: It's also $10 more for some odd reason :/

Interesting but I don't trust Game Stop, I'll never forget that year I ordered the LE Metal Gear Solid Collection for PS3 only to see a smaller box arrive containing Call of Duty Hardened Ed. The rage was real that day folks...

I had issues with my Dragon Age Inquisition too with them :/ It did get sorted out, but was annoying.

Also, note that it's $10 more through GS. Shipping aside.

Just to be sure, this CE actually comes with the game disc, right?

If so, I think it's worth 99$ as I've seen some CE's cost about 200$ and not even come with the game.

If this comes with

FF-Type 0 HD
Cards
A steelbook
A 200page manga
A 80page artbook
FFXV demo
Composer Select OST...

how is that not worth 99$?

I'm a HUGE sucker for Final Fantasy Collector's Editions, so this is pretty much pre-ordered.

Also, no Digital River makes me a SUPER happy camper.

Some people don't like to think that things like that are "worth" $40 to them. To make profit and putting into account the cost of manufacturing, these things usually are worth what they cost, although maybe not to the individual.

I am never, ever buying from the S-E store again.

Fuck digital river.

It's not anymore.

In this case Gamestop it's actually better than the Square Enix store. It's like choosing the lesser of two evils XD. I would order from GS but I already have an order on Square store so I'm screwed, I wouldn't mind if we got an exclusive sleeve like EU is getting from ordering from the store but we don't get anything so I really wish I could just cancel and order form GS.

Get the f**k out of here with that "composer's selection soundtrack."

know exactly how you feel

Square has a new store, no more digital river crap. Also I believe we are getting a sleeved outer box design like EU you just don't see it in the pics, still like EU's white box design better.

As much as I want the CE I'll wait until the regular is on sale. I don't want to give SE the satisfaction of a day 1 sale, and even if I don't get the FFXV Demo I will still be happy.

This game will be on sale for 40 bucks a month after it's out. I'd rather not front them money for a game they've wasted 6 years of dev in.

Lots of people seem to discount the inclusion of the actual game and act as if you were paying the full price only for the extras. Only thing I find wrong with this is the sampler OST and more generally the rather high price of a remaster of a game they initially didn't even bother to localize. I actually want the CE contents more than the game at present though...

is this exclusive to their online store or will us retail plebs be able to get it ?

If it's like their KH2.5 CE It probably won't see retail. What're they gonna do, give half a copy to every Gamestop in the US?

At least DR knew how to ship stuff correctly, this new store just throws your CE in a box without any protection :/. I highly doubt it since the EU sleeved outer box had it's own trailer, so if we were gonna get it I'm sure we would have gotten a trailer for it as well but we didn't.

Well, the pacing is most definitely different than XIII (it's not story>walk>fight>story>walk>fight)

It has quite a few side quests (quite a bit of them being fetch/killing, and quite a bit being good ones that last a long part of the game).

Fighting is most of what you do though. You have your main story missions, which are basically stages (go through here, kill enemies, boss at the end), and in-between you have sidequests, side-missions (some of them try to spice things up, but you're still pretty much doing missions), and there is a second type of mission which are the strategic missions on the world map, where you lead your army to conquer regions and whatnot (they are usually easy, but some of them can get tricky, making you fight bosses in the world map).

Dungeons are all optional, except for the last one, and they are pretty much your typical dungeon (unfortunately with PSP limitations, but they're still good).

Other than fighting, the leveling up system is interesting as you have 14 characters and they all have at least 2 different ways of playing them depending on which abilities you equip. There's Chocobo breeding, a simple system, but there are dozens of chocobos (which can only be used in the world map, but they are extremely useful in the strategic missions). There's also the Alto Crystarium, which is where you level up magic by using an item you get from enemies. There's nothing like Gold Saucer here unfortunately.

And even though the game is mission-based, it's not like Monster Hunter or Gods Eater, it's pretty different.

What about game lenght and side content? Should i expect it to be on the lenght of a mainline FF?
Main story should be about 34-35 hours? Around that, I found it a little too short, but you can do a New Game+ where the missions change and you get some more stuff related to the story.

Side content there's a lot (read above), a lot of things are actually unlocked through side-stuff, I even missed the airship in my first playthrough because that's optional.

If you do everything and New Game+, the game can last around 100 hours (or more depending on how you play it).

The bad thing about the side content? Most of it is designed for you to complete at a higher level than the main story. If you just go through the story you should beat it with your characters at level 35 or so. Where most side-missions, dungeons and bosses are all level 40+. So you either grind until you're able to do the side stuff or you do them on NG+.

That being said, they said they would be rebalancing the game now that they took Multiplayer off, so maybe you will level up faster too?

Sorry for the wall of text =P

Thank you for all the impressions. I have few more questions though, more in detail:

1) when you speak of optional dungeons, is that just linear dungeons or there are multi-floor complex layered dungeons with simple puzzles or different activities than just battling?

2) you speak of side content limited to high lvl characters, is it possible like in most jrpgs to reach the ending boss or dungeon, stopping right before it, and backtrack/levelup to explore all the content left before it? Usually I focus on sidequests at the end of the game instead of doing it during the story quests. I like to enjoy the story first and finish the rest after

3) is there a complex detailed datalog that explains more of the lore like in FFXIII?

4) Also, I could be wrong... but I heard about a timing system happening in the Accademia. Is this a sort of LR: FFXIII terrible and annoying doomsday clock?

5) how hard is the main game? I mean if u stick to story only

thx

... Is this the game any GOOD? Comparatively: Where would you rank it against? Better than XIII? Better than XII? Would you put it alongside a main line FF game?

It's like that on steroids. I have never seen a more fleshed out database of lore and info in a game before. It's amazing how much stuff there is. History, monster data, changing character info, so much stuff to read if you so desire.

1) I didn't do all the optional content, but none of the dungeons I came across were especially complicated. There are occasional puzzles though.

2) No, there's missable content, you have to do it on new game plus.

3) Yes

4) You have a limited amount of actions you can take, it's not on a real time clock.

5) Reasonably challenging, it's not overly difficult though.

... Is this the game any GOOD? Comparatively: Where would you rank it against? Better than XIII? Better than XII? Would you put it alongside a main line FF game?

I think it was better than XIII. It's going to be diversive though, it does have a lot of flaws. I feel like Type 0 has a lot of good ideas behind it, but the execution isn't always the best. It starts out strongly but falls flat towards the end. I did like it, but I'm not sure if I want to buy it again.

1 - Dungeons are a line with branching paths. They do try to spice things up by either giving a little story or by putting quest items, but they are mainly basic dungeons.

2 - You can go through a dungeon and fight the boss as many times as you like, you can backtrack literally anywhere in the game, even re-do story missions if you want to level up (and yes, you get exp for redoing missions).

Some sidequests are limited, the ones on the World Map stay there forever, and sidemissions stay for a limited time too (not as limited as sidequest though). If you want to do stuff after you go through the main story, then you should do it on NG+, it works pretty well.

3 - Yes, and it gets pretty detailed. It's not nearly as necessary to read that as FFXIII though, only if you want more lore.

4 - You have limited actions, not time. Going to the world map however is counted as only one action, so you can spend as much time as you want there.

5 - If you stick to story only? It can get pretty hard, I would recommend doing the more basic quests along the way, at least you get a few extra levels.

... Is this the game any GOOD? Comparatively: Where would you rank it against? Better than XIII? Better than XII? Would you put it alongside a main line FF game?

Now, you see, here's the problem, I like XIII =P

So, is it better than XIII? Gameplay-wise and character-wise? Yes. Story-wise? It's different, even the l'Cie talk is different here. But it's kind of a different game. FFs are usually a group of heroes going on a journey. This is about a war and character relationships during this war, there's barely any character development (secondary characters develop much more than you), and you don't go around the world in a normal JRPG fashion, here you conquer regions, and you go there.

Better than XII? The characters here definitely play a bigger role and there's less politics (although there are still some politics around). It's definitely less strategic than XII, and I suppose the characters are different enough that you will most likely find one or two characters that you like.

Would I put it alongside a main title? I would put it halfway between Crisis Core and a mainline title, is that good enough? It's not revolutionizing the world, but it tries something new, it delivers, and it leaves.
