Final Fantasy VII Remake: Square Enix Has "No Plans For Other Platforms" Other Than PS4

Not all that surprising but good to finally have full confirmation.

In a statement to IGN, Square Enix said "As previously announced, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released for the PlayStation 4 on March 3rd 2020. We have no plans for other platforms." The statement seems to suggest, without going as far as to use the exact phrasing, that Final Fantasy VII Remake is a PS4 exclusive.

I wonder why people keep bouncing this.

This is a typical "no comment" canned response from PR.

"No plans" simply means "even if we were to do it, it's unannounced, so we can't tell you."

No. It does not. The statement seems to suggest that you asked for something they have made no announcement about, so they're telling you "that's none of your business."

If you think this is "full confirmation" of anything at all, you must be very naive.

Why!!? FF series crazy popular, this type of series that sell well in every platform including Xbox and PC.

They will concentrate on the PS4 version first and later down the line you will see other platforms but right now it will be only on PS4

At best you can still hope for a timed exclusive.

Either way, for the time being. It is an exclusive. Its up in the air on whether that statement holds true in the future. We can safely assume Sony paid quite a bit of money.

As someone who games on the PC almost exclusively, this news sucks.

I'm not hoping anything. I can't care the less about the platform it's on. I'm pretty sure that if the game comes to other platforms, it'll be after a while.

But this is the polite equivalent of Hideki Kamiya's "Ask your mom" and it means literally nothing.

This is not "news." It's how it's always been since the very first announcement. If you got your hopes up, that's on you.

It doesn't mean nothing. It's confirmation that they're only working on PS4 right now.

Upon the first announcement (~2015), it was never announced as an exclusive. This is news.

Once more, since apparently, I wasn't clear enough, "we have no plans" said by PR simply means "we haven't announced anything." It's a canned PR equivalent of "no comment."

A publisher's PR office has absolutely no authority to make announcements outside of their scheduled and approved ones, not even about possibilities. If you ask something about an unannounced platform or an unannounced anything, they'll 99% tell you "we have no plans" because that's literally all they're authorized to say, whether the developers are working on something behind the scenes or not.

If you ask a developer, they'll 99% tell you "if there's demand we might consider it in the future." It means the same thing, from a different perspective. Neither PR or developers make announcements just because you ask them.

Upon the first announcement (~2015), it was never announced as an exclusive. This is news.

It was announced only for PS4. Same as now. Absolutely nothing of this changed that by an inch.

Correct. Granted, Sony has been comparatively adamant that developers at least not directly confirm other platforms will see timed exclusive titles so as to attempt to maximize initial sales on their platform.

It's simply a matter of time, barring a full acquisition by Sony.

It was announced 'first on PS4'. The absolutely does not translate to only for PS4.

There is no way this isn't going to get re-released on the Playstation 5.

Just tells me at most it'll be a timed exclusive, since if Sony has a deal in place for timed exclusivity then they can't even mention other platforms right now.

Not sure why this is news, it was kind of assumed that this would be timed, all the way back to the "First on Playstation" marketing.

SquareEnix would be idiots though to make it fully exclusive to one console and no, I'm not saying this as a console fanboy, but they would clearly be leaving a lot of money on the table for an otherwise hugely expensive game that they are making.

Regardless though I have both an Xbox One X and a PS4 Pro so I'll get it on the Pro first.

It reminds me of Versus 13 in a way, with the exclusivity status there's obviously some funding and help being funneled by Sony.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is an exclusive game for Playstation 4.
(and it will still be for at least 1/2 years after its release, as a minimum)

Only after this contract (for this time exclusive) between Square Enix and Sony Playstation has expired, then the game can also be released on other platforms.
But not before.

With the amount of work going into just making it I'm not surprised they've not thinking about any other versions.
It's if they want to return to it afterwards to port it that's the real question.

are people going to port beg this game to the switch

So I'm to assume that all those retailers leaks including xbox themselves were just coincidences? 🙄

You know last time Xbox leaked something by mistake, it was given the a-ok approval as legit.

I read the title as, all of the FFVII Remake will be on the PS4. Meaning we won't have to play a complete game on the PS5/6.

I see it's about being a PlayStation console (current and future) exclusive.

Either way, both takes are doubtful.

Considering FF XV sold a good 85% or more of it's sales on ps4, this isn't surprising. And it was announced as a first on ps4, but this is saying it's exclusive at the moment. I totally expect it for ps5 and Xbox next, but it could be exclusive to ps4 for this gen at least.

The only question is if Sony got timed exclusivity for the first game or for all chapters. If is the latter, hope fanboys from other platforms have a long life lol
