Final Fantasy XII on a PS3?

I *sort of* wanted to play FF XII on my ps3, so I ordered it again. When it arrived I popped it in and it didn't work. So now I *REALLY* want to play it.

Anyways, I've got a PS3 that supports PS2 games (model number cecha01). However when I put in my brand new FF XII game, the disk doesn't show up. I've downloaded the "PS2 System Data" download but still nothing.

Has anyone seen anything like this. As far as I can tell this game should work on the PS3 if you've got a PS3 that supports backwards compatibility.

only the 60 gig, 20 gig and early 80 gigs play ps2 games i think.
60 gig plays them the best.
I think it's better to just invest in a ps2 and component cables. 60 gig is huge and breaks easily.

Disk might be bad. There are no extra steps to run a PS2 game on a BC PS3.
If your PS3 didn't support PS2 games, it would list it as "Unsupported Data" where the disc icon is.

This was only needed for PS2 hard drive games (like Final Fantasy 11 and that's it), so that won't affect your issue in any way. :(

Only 60 GB, I had a 80 GB and it didn't read PS2 games at all.

There was an early 80 gb that did play PS2 games (with partial software emulation, unlike the launch PS3). The one that came with MGS4 or that era anyway.

I can confirm my 60 gig release day PS3 plays FF12, maybe your lens/disk is just dirty? Can you read it from a PC?

Possible faulty disc then, if you've already made sure your PS3 can play other PS2 games?

Any way of trying it in a PS2?

The MGS4 era is when they dropped BC. That's why the Gun Metal Grey one was such a disappointment to me at the time. The 80GB first year model came before that. I had one of those until I sold it last December.

My Motorstorm bundle 80 GB PS3 played PS2 games jsut fine. It's the best fatty I've even had...

Yup that was the one I had, too. Played through MGS 1-4 on that thing in one go.

The US version of FFXII ran perfectly on my US 80gb MGS4 PS3, no problems whatsoever.

Yep, this is the one I had. All the first PAL PS3s also used partial emulation (full hardware BC was never available in Europe to my knowledge), but IIRC the compatibility ratio was much lower than the US emulation model.

Yeah you are right. I remember that. What a shame :( PAL screwed again.

I have my North American launch 60gb and it's basically perfect. I think there was exactly one game in my collection (Star Ocean 3) that had issues. Otherwise it was like a real PS2.. nicely upscaled to HD.

I put in my mac and the mac could read it, put it back in and the PS3 can see it.

Must have been dirty or something (though I assure you that I cleaned it).

It's just one of those days I guess!

I have this model too and I love it to bits. I had no idea when I bought it that it was going to be the LAST backwards compatible model. I know it's software emulation but I've never had any problems at all. I hope it never dies. Playing Persona 4 on it now :D PS2 games with HDMI output and a wireless controller is pretty great.

I miss it a lot, unfortunately mine YLoD'd barely a year after buying it.

I did play it a lot, though.

If reboot doesn't work, check the disk for a circle of death. If it has it, then get a refund. You can also check it using an emulator, just to verify It gets to the menu screen. I wanna help you because I really liked that game lol.
