Don't you "..." some of Nomura's best designs, if anything, Versus XIII's designs are an extension of VIII's.

You also have an older KH Seifer in your avatar.

The "..." was because i was having serious trouble complementing FF8(outside of the inclusion of Gilgamesh).

Outside of KH, and X, i really do not think the dude to be that bad(not a huge fan of his style though). I just wish he was a hell a lot more conservative.

Ah okay, my mistake I agree. It is true that when he is not trying to go all out is when his designs actually do shine. Which is why I loved FFVIIII's designs and really like what I see of Versus'.

Conservative is boring. The guy broke the mold by making designs so ridiculous that they're somehow badass. I bet no one at Disney thought about giving Donald a hat with zippers.

If he wants to go the extra mile to be creative, I say let him. Love em or hate em, you'll still remember his designs. All the complaints about the FFXIII cast is proof of that.

Eh, you can still be creative whilst exercising some level of restraint(Look at Sazh and Lightning).

With the exception of Auron and Yuna(her design is good, i just do not like it), i hated all the designs in X with a passion, though in Nomura's defense, some of the shittier ones were because of Ikeda(?).

That's funny, Yuna is the only design I didn't like. Wasn't bad or anything, I just thought the clothes were too boring.

Anyway, I think there needs to be a point where you can throw restraint out the window. Main villains and final boss transformations should be viable for ridiculous designs. I'm hoping the final boss design for XIII makes people question Nomura's sanity (if he's doing the design).

Part of the problem (Just like Arkham Asylum, i hated that in FF12 as well. It was okay in some of the others though).

If it thematically fits to go batshit crazy, sure. Otherwise no.

One of the cooler bosses in X-2 was Trema(or was it Tromell), and he looked pretty normal.

That's an easy feat if you're the kind to give EVERYTHING zippers
, and belts, and black, and leather, and stupid swords, and a combination of the above
.

It's kinda hard to forget his designs when you see them everywhere on the internet no matter where you go. It's kinda like Britney music; it's terrible but since the stuff is everywhere you have no choice but to notice, and remember, it.

Play-Asia has the LE OST up now for sale. Much cheaper than CDJapan is selling it for too.

Are you gonna pick it up?

I like the music so far but I'm not sure if I'm that enthused about it.

Oh and there sure is a lot of Nomura talk going on here...careful guys >.<

It's his signature. You gotta have one, especially when you have creative control.

And that's what I'm saying. Some people like that stuff. I'm not going to try to understand the masses, but if it's popular, not much we can do about it. I personally like Nomura's designs, but for those who don't, I don't see Nomura changing his style for a vocal minority. It sucks, but at least they're just character designs and not flawed gameplay elements.

Plenty of that to go around, but let us not get into that.

As Chilly says, it is best if we stopped while we are ahead.

That's not so much of a signature when it's more of a fetish, especially with Nomura's obsessions. And no matter how many times he uses them, they'll still look stupid. *insert zipper horse here*

Your original argument is "love em or hate em, you'll remember the designs", and my retort is "only because you're forced to". There are a billion and one pieces of art and design out there that doesn't need to be shoved down your throat in order for them to be memorable; for Nomura's, unfortunately, it's necessary.

And, like others, this should be where I stop sidetracking this thread.
agreed with that gameplay sentiment above me

Yeah I ordered it. I own all the other FF OSTs, so why not?
My wallet needs a break after this though. Good thing the rest of this year is dry as far as releases I want go.

Eh, I was burned on the FFXII Soundtrack, I have my apprehensions about taking the dive. Then again, it is a great price for a LE...

Oddly enough, the renders posted earlier are interesting...but don't sway my opinion in either way, the character personalities are what will determine their value, for me at least.

Yeppers. I like snow's design, but i already know that his personality is going to irk me.

At the very least, every design in 13 proper right now looks better than any designs in Vs13.

The only good character designs so far in Vs13 are cathedral mafia men.

Just listened to the music samples. I didn't really like the Chocobo theme. I thought it was even worse than Final Fantasy XI's version.

Thank god he's not the MC.

I swear if Snow gives a speech about friendship or something he will get less use in my party than Vanille.

I hate to say it, but i agree with you.

I will just swap him out for Lightning(Might as well do it from the start as i am sure that such a speech is in the cards).

Also, i have a feeling that SE is gunning to make him Co-MC and that he may have a more of a presence than lightning.

I'm not forgetting Stella. Or perhaps I am, because she rates on the same tier as Rinoa in terms of character design: pretty, and bland, making Stella pretty bland.

Forgettable.

Eh, I think Snow may surprise people. He may be an goody two shoe'd idiot, but sometimes that's just what certain situations call for. Not everyone can be broody and dramatic and not everyone can be comic relief. So far his character hasn't reached Tidus levels of "Lets do our best!! ::Whistle:: " so I'm optimistically cautious at this point.

Certainly not as exotic as Fang(who i prefer) but i hardly think that she is 'bland.'

There is nothing wrong with this, the problem is that the writers set him up as a leader(like most Shonen heroes) and the stupidity he is destined to spew is the isssue.

Last part was a joke. Just saying there's always that one guy no matter how fucked up the world is in sharp contrast to the hundreds of emo characters that gave up hope. Of course the XIII world isn't really that bad so at least there shouldn't be too many emo characters.

You just like his muscles. :P

Plus there are more sides to this than brooding and comic relief.

Hey! Post here more often. We need people like you because it's boring here. I hope Stella isn't like Rinoa because I hate Rinoa. =/

Stella defense force, assembling, eh?

To be honest, the reason why I think Stella is bland has a bit to do with the animations we saw of her in that cutscene. She's pretty, I'll give her that, but otherwise she's fairly generic, with nothing remarkable to distinguish her personality, or her culture, origins, etc.. Part of the reason why I think a pile of us bowed to queen Fang off that bat was because Fang displayed personality in the first glimpse we had of her; Stella, on the other hand, could slot firmly into the "cute girl with mysterious connection to hero" category.

I don't care for pretty faces. Lightning sold me in the E3 2006 trailer, with her walk. I thought that that was how a woman with purpose and character walks. That impression is still strong today, despite some less admirable reveals about Lightning. Unfortunately for Stella, the first moment I saw her I saw an overlay of Rinoa turning around to look at the camera in the same fashion.

I don't expect Stella to be like Rinoa. But I don't expect her to be a much distinguished female character either. Because I remember the twin disasters of Kairi and Namine.

Technically(actually that's more literal) they're the same person.

I forget, does Stella do that "hand on chest" anime girl pose during any of the times we've seen her?

I just looked up "Stella Nox Fleuret" and I don't understand the hate. She just looks normal. And the clothes she's been decked out with, well, there's beauty in simplicity. Zippers and pockets does not make an interesting character design.

Holy Shit, I am so disgusted with myself.

I wasn't really following this game, and so I saw a screen of this new character on Kotaku touching Snow's face. Knowing that this was from Final Fantasy, I assumed it was another androgenous guy.....and then comes this new artwork......

FUCK YOU Japan, look what you did to me!

Nox?

Her name is Star Night(Queen/Goddess) Sword?

Oh and I'm pretty sure Fang doesn't have zippers, like, at all.

No hate. Just a curiosity as to why lorddarkflare champions Stella as a good Nomura design.

She has the "hands clasped together behind her back" anime girl pose. Serah does too. Apparently it's supposed to be cute.

Well it is cute, but i find it really fucking annoying and overdone.

Besides, i thought we were just talking about designs, the personalities are an altogether different matter, and should stay separate.

As for why i Champion her as a good Nomura design, it is because she looks good(very nice face), and a definitely better than most of Nomura's other female designs(Seriously, have you seen some of them? Remember Lulu? Paine? X-2 Yuna? Rinoa? Anything spawned in KH?).

And for what it is worth, i prefer Fang over her(over everyone else to be quite honest), but i definitely think that if her default outfit does not look KH retarded, she will be one of Nomura's best.

Stella showcases, in my opinion, a refreshing design for precisely the same reasons you find her so bland. She is not cute, she is not bubbly and she is not pretty. She is simply beautiful, simply being the key adjective. Stella isn't wearing some terribly exotic outfit, nor does she have complicated and distracting jewelry hanging off her in some terrifying way.

She's simple and clean (HEY-O) and the costume she's wearing doesn't look like one. By that I mean specifically that she (much like Serah) is wearing an ensemble that one might see on a real person. Her hair does sort of defy gravity as it frames her face, but it gives her a sense of regalia that isn't generally seen in Nomura's designs.

In terms of her appearance speaking to her culture, FFXIII Versus is Present so it all works out :D

By the little I've seen so far, I think I'm probably going to enjoy versus more than 'regular XIII. Granted, we don't know a whole lot about versus yet, but, I don't know, there's just something more compelling with a setting that looks and feels more like the present, at least imo.

That's the consensus for most around here lol
