Final Fantasy XIII new (?) pics

Rumor has it: Vaan wasn't in the game originally, Yoshida created everyone else and S-E decided that there wasn't the requisite FF-style prettyboy for the girls to swoon over, so they had Yoshida make Vaan.

Hmm. I will see when I play the game about how "stuck in" he is. If he feels forced, I think it will be very obvious.

Oh...still doesn't explain the terrible trio from III. :) I don't really care, but only one of them really resembles a male at all.

Well it's not that Vaan necessarily feels "stuck-in" to the story, he apparently fits in just as well as anyone else. It's just that S-E decided they needed a prettyboy before development in FFXII was too far along

Vaan was modeled after a Monk from FFT, actually. BUT, I don't think Yoshida did the transfer there
That's interesting but it doesn't discount the rumor about S-E asking for the prettyboy. Vaan's design inspiration would come after S-E's request after all

Vaan is just wearing relatively simple pants and a vest...no million belts or useless accesories or retarded cut off shorts like Tidus's. :p Well I did say almost all of his designs were great, anyway... :P

I suppose you could look at Yoshida's pre-FFXII work (VS/FFT/TO, etc) and post-FFXII work (FF3) and see for yourself that Vaan definitely isn't a common occurence in his designs

True. Ashley's little get-up is a bit out there. ;) But it's totally appropriate for the setting. Sidney too. :D

Dude, you could say that about the guy from the Village People. He's just wearing simple pants and a vest! :D

Meh. I still his design is fine. It's just the poses and the personality Squeenix gave him. :P Well and uh his girly face.

...

ALMOST I SAID!

I'll say it: FFXII looks kinda bland so far. Yes yes, I know. Hatred towards me. But what I see right now is more FF: The Spirits Within than what I expect out of my Final Fantasies. If I wanted tough manly shit I'd play an FPS. I WANT ridiculously flamboyant! I WANT to see kids with tails, girls with cat ears, and unbelievable character designs set in fantastic worlds.

I'm telling you right now that this reach towards continued realism will hurt the series. Vaan looks cool, I guess. But this chick looks so generic. Where are the freaking buckles, tattoos, eye makeup, and glowing parts?? Where is the freaky weapon?

I like change as much as anyone. I'm waiting with baited breath, Square. Don't **** this up by trying to sell Cell processors.

Edit: NEVERMIND! This looks just as queer as I want it!

I actually think FFXII has all three of those.

wait are you talking about FFXII, or FFXIII? :lol

FvCK! I keep doing this. I'm not used to seeing the sequel before the (current?) sequel is out. Read: Vaan and that stuff is cool. The girl in the pics in this thread is bland.

Nomura bitching? Check.

Misplaced sci-fi vs. fantasy moaning? Check.

Ridiculous " Character X is a clone of Character Y" comparisons? Check.

Not being good enough? Check.

Must be a Final Fantasy thread. :)

Indeed. Im doing a list of the people who are bitching today about FFXIII and Im pretty sure 80% of those people will be playing FFXIII the day it releases and hype it as the GOTG only to say "it was OK" the following week.

Hey it happened to FFX and FFXII

I've been following FF since late '91... and believe it or not I've seen basically what you've described (sans any Nomura arguments, since he wasn't around back then) since FFIII/VI was released during early internet message forums/BBs (i.e. Sierra's INN "Home Video Games" BB).

It's the same cycle.
It just baffles me that the same asinine arguments pop up over 10 years later.

Every possible thread that can have some kind of discussion/predictions about this game (or past FF games) are always ****ing ruined by the same dumb arguments and people sensitive about their sexuality it seems.

I can't undestand how a straight man who isn't live in Japan can identify with this character design. Looks like he on his way to get his eyebrows plucked.

We all know when one is in his teens there's a dire need to shave his head bald, inject himself with steroids to become uber-muscular and wear giant cyber armor in addition to expressing generic angst, lest he wants to be confused with being a "fancy boy".
