Yoshi-P reiterates again he wants to renew the graphics at some point. His full response in the JP interview seems to indicate they've already begun preparation for it.

Yoshida: No. We're working on the rendering for PS5, so you'll be able to play with higher quality, but the graphics engine itself will remain the same. The graphics engine itself will remain the same, but we'd like to revamp the graphics engine at some point. There are a lot of assets, and the volume of work we've done over the past 10 years is unbelievable. There is a folder structure of data, a way to access it, and that will all have to be rebuilt. Even at this point, we have to support 4K textures, and we need to change the way we make things.  

For example, if you want a fluttering cloak, you have to replace the concept of bones with a rig, install a physics engine, adjust the physics for each character, and because that eats up too much performance, if you turn off the physics of other players, the cloaks of other characters will be crushed.

I didn't do it this time because I wanted to focus on the game experience, the last part of the Hydaelyn & Zordiark Arc. However, we are doing research and making the preparations for it. We always plan things out over several years. Like the data center travel, we'd like to revamp the graphics engine at some point. However, that's not going to happen with Endwalker. In a sense, the specs will remain the same, and you can rest assured that you'll be able to go on exciting adventures. I can tell you that Yoshida says he wants to do it someday. However, I'd like you to also tell him that it's going to be a tremendous challenge (laughs).

いいえ。PS5に向けて描画に手を入れていてもっと高品質で遊べるようにはなるが、グラフィックスエンジン自体はそのまま。ただ、グラフィックスエンジンの一新はいつかやりたいことではある。アセット数が多くて、これまで10年間作ってきたボリュームが信じられない量になっている。データのフォルダ構成、アクセス方法があるが、それも全部再構築になる。現時点ですら4Kテクスチャー対応をしなきゃいけないし、そろそろ作り方そのものを変えなきゃいけない。

たとえば、ひらひらしたマントを出してあげたいという場合は、ボーンという概念をリグにかえて、物理エンジンを搭載して、キャラ個別の物理調整をして、それだとパフォーマンスを食い過ぎるので、他のプレーヤーの物理をオフにすると、他のキャラのマントがバキバキになるといった具合に全部詰め直さないといけない。

今回はハイデリン・ゾディアーク編のラストという、ゲーム体験に重きを置きたかったのでやらない。ただ、調査というか、下準備はしている。常に僕らは数年間単位で計画して物事を進めている。データセンタートラベルもそうだが、グラフィックスエンジンの刷新もいつかやりたいと思っている。ただし、それは今回ではない。ある意味スペック変わらず、ワクワクした冒険に出られるのでそこは安心していただければ。吉田はいつかやりたいといってるとは伝えて良い。ただ、途方もなく大変ということも合わせて伝えて貰いたい(笑)
 
I believe he's ragged on a lot of the legacy systems they've had to work around for years now. I mostly remember them mentioning inventory and implementing the glamour system being a pain.

Probably a massive pain in the ass. I can see them doing it for 7.0 given, marketing wise, it's a new beginning just like ARR was back then. But we'll see, It all depends on when they started this stuff.

I have a 2TB WD Black PCI4 7GB SSD as my C: drive. Just installed FFXIV on it and the PS5 should load in seconds like it does on this drive.

Seriously though, I've yet to hear a remix of a Soken song that is superior to the original. Even the officially sanctioned and in-house remix album (Pulse) sounds like crap to me lol
Soken is a legend and I can't wait for more to hear his work in Endwalker and XVI!
ofcourse, no way these guy could suddenly surpass Soken. however some of this remix actually pretty good. of course, dont compare it with the man Soken itself. even in Square, currently i dont think anyone close, aside the legenday Nobuo Uematsu.

Why Paladin for 6.0's poster job?

Since this is the end of the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc, they wanted to ensure that they can conclude the saga of this Final Fantasy title in a high note, and therefore settled in having Paladin as the poster boy of this expansion

ヒーラーについて
Regarding the new Healer

・6.0でピュアとバリアヒーラーで分かれることになるが、どっちを使っても極端なバランス差が出ないようにやるつもり
Though 6.0 will separate healers into 2 categories - Barrier or Pure, they want to make sure that they will not widen the balance gap.

・一番大きいのはゲーム体験の違いで、学者と賢者はどっちもバリアヒーラーだがバリアを張るという行為に対してアプローチの仕方が違う
The major point to consider here is that the difference of game experience here, and while both SCH and Sage here are barrier healers but the approach and specifics of using barriers for those job will be different.


・ピュア、もしくはバリアヒーラーだけの構成でプレイ感覚が変わるかどうがはプレーヤースキル次第
The difference of play feel in having only pure healers vs having only pure barrier healers will depend on the player skill

・分ける以上はピュアヒーラー1、バリアヒーラー1のほうがクリアしやすいようにはしていく
Since it's split, the default composition that the devs would want you to make will be to bring 1 pure healing healer and 1 pure barrier healer. This will make the content clearing easier.

・ヒーラーのロールはピュアとバリアで分かれることはなく表示上は一つ
The healer roles does not split, despite its specifications split into two. They are still categorised as healers.

・分けたことでのリミットブレイクゲージのたまりが変わってくるといった調整はない
Though the specifications are split, it will not affect how Limit Break gauges are filled and there will be no adjustments on the matter.
■タンクについて
Regarding Tanks

・ヒーラーはピュアとバリアで分けたが、タンクをMTとSTに分ける予定はない
Though the specifications between Healers will undergo changes to have Pure or Barrier based healers, there will be no plans to split the categorisation for MT or OT

6.0の新たな近接DPSジョブについて
Regarding the new Melee DPS

・竜騎士だけ特殊な立ち位置なので枠だけ言ってしまうとそこに足すことなったので、6.0新ジョブは近接DPSに決定した
"Since DRG is currently at a special position, if we're only talking about slots it was natural we add it there. Which is why we decided on having melee DPS as our second new job."

・DPSというロールをやりたがる方が基本的には多いので、拡張ごとに攻撃をするジョブが追加されないというのはないかなと考えている
There are many players who want to play the DPS role so they tend to add new job that specialises on attacking. It seems that there hasn't been an expansion where attack specific jobs isn't added for each expansion.

・近接DPSが厳しいということについて、ギミックを複雑にして高難易度を作ると移動や攻撃距離に制限があるジョブはどのMMOでも厳しくなり、これをどう回避していくのかについては常に悩んでいる
Regarding on how playing melee DPS is hard/rigid, Yoshida commented that it's never easy to play a job that has restrictions in movement or attack distance when facing complicated mechanics in high difficulty content no matter which MMO you play, so they are always worried on approaching the aspect of how to dodge those kind of mechanics.

■6.0新スキルについて
On new skills for 6.0

・ナイトはパッセージ・オブ・アームズを超えるのが大変だが、こういうものが欲しかった、カッコ良くてもっとジョブが好きになったというものを各ジョブに用意している
It will be hard to create a skill that surpasses Passage of Arms, they wanted more skills like that. So they want to create skills like that for all jobs so players who have their favourite preference will end up loving their job more because of how cool it is.

・期待に応えられるように頑張っていきたい
They are working really hard so that they can meet the player's expectations.

帯防具削除やパラメータについて
On the aspect of removing Belts, as well as stat parameters.

・帯防具の削除で減ったパラメータはほかに振り分けたりしていくつもり
The stat parameters you gained from Belts will be relocated elsewhere coming this expansion due to the removal of belt slot.

・今回はデノミの影響が凄く大きいので、内部計算式が変わってなくてもサブパラメータの影響度合いを変えていたりしている
The impact of downscaling stats will be really big, so even without the changes done to the inner formula, the extent of the impact on sub stats will change because of this.

・ステータスの感覚は最終的には気付かないぐらいの変化になる
The result of this change will be to the point that you ultimately won't even notice it.

・帯装備は取引、売却、分解、トークンと交換することは可能
The belts can be used for trade, sell, desynth, or can be exchanged for tokens.

・帯装備の説明欄に「かつて冒険者の腰を守っていたと思われる装備」が書かれることになる
The description for belt equipments will add a sentence that states "An equipment that was used to protect the Adventurer's waist" or something to that effect.

■フェイスシステムについて
Regarding Trust System

・6.0でもメインクエストに登場するダンジョンはすべてフェイス対応している
All main dungeons that appear on 6.0 will be Trust compatible.

・我々としてはフェイスは全展開したいと思っているが信じられないほどコストが掛かるので、どうやって汎用的に組み込んでいくかというところにチャレンジしていこうとしている
They wanted to go all out with the Trust system but doing so will require an enormous amount of cost to make it work, so the team is currently facing challenges and are figuring out how to incorporate them for general use.

無人島開拓について
Regarding Island Sanctuary

・今回は“スローライフ”がコンセプトなので他人と競い合うみたいなことは極力なくすようにしている
The concept behind the content is to provide players with a more "slow life" (relaxing) feel so they are making sure any elements of competing with other players is avoided

・他人との交流はゼロではないが、基本は1人でやっていくコンテンツ
You will still retain some form of communication with other players, but the content itself is largely solo

・貿易も自分が開拓した無人島の中で、特産物を植えたり育てたものをゲーム内のシステム内の流注と対話をしてギルを稼いでいく遊び
Trading within Island Sanctuary and earning gil can be done by planting and growing specialities that you have cultivated, as well as interacting with the features in this game.

・貿易は興味がないから育てるだけで楽しいという遊び方でも損はしない作り
They will make it so that even if you're not interested in trading but only want to do it just to grow crops, or specialities can also do so without facing through any loss/penalties.

・お気に入りのミニオンをめでたり連れてきた動物を育てるだけでもいい
You are free to admire the minions you love and brought into, or just have fun growing animals you brought into Island Sanctuary.

ヒルディブランドについて
Regarding Hildibrand

・ヒルディはちょっとマンネリ化してたきたかなというところで一回お休みしていた
The adventures of Hildibrand was put into hiatus due to the content becoming monotonous and stereotyped.

・一回充電できたので皆さんの期待に何か応えていけるようなものをと考えている
Now that he's recharged, the devs are now thinking on how to proceed with the content that will answer player's expectations.

少人数PvPについて
Small Scale PvP

・ルールもマップもすべて変えた全く新しいコンテンツ
The rules, maps and everything about this content is new.

・基本的にはどのジョブで参加してもいい
Any job can join this content.

・今はヒーラーの負担が大きいので、ロールフリーにして自己回復を全員持たせている
Currently having healers playing PvP places a heavy burden and responsibility onto them, so they are aiming to make this content role free and everyone who join this PvP has a self heal.

・ダウンを取ったり陣取り要素が加わってくる
Elements like occupying your opponent's base, or taking down your enemy will be added.

・欲しくなるような新たな報酬システムも開発している
A new type of reward system (that everyone would want) is currently underway.

・フィーストは一旦閉じる可能性がある
There is a possibility that Feast will be temporary closed down depending on how the content goes.

その他
Others

・飛行や水泳などの移動に関する新しいアクションはやらなくていいという考え、そもそも僕にはもうネタがない(笑)
Yoshida thought that aside from Flying and Swimming, there is no need to further think of any new actions. To begin with, he no longer has any ideas on the matter (with a laugh)

・新アクションとして「無重力」も考えたが、泳いでいるのと変わらないし一回飛び上がったら帰ってこれないんじゃない?というのもあって今回は無し
They did thought of a new action like "Zero gravity", but it would be the same as swimming and if you jump, you would not be able to land back to the ground anymore wouldn't you? So...yeah no special actions will be added this time.

・月エリアではFFXIVチームの月はこう解釈するのか、想像力をかき立てられるなと思って貰えるようなことをしようと考えている
When exploring the moon, it will require the FFXIV team to interpret how being at the moon feels like, so it will be a testament to their imagination and they're giving thoughts on how to approach this aspect.

・僕らの思う月をどんと出して行くので、ぜひ月にもご期待ください
The expansion will involve the moon that everyone thought it would be, so please look forward to it™️

・一応月には空気はあるし、窒息ゲージが出て外に出ていると死んでしまうような面倒くさいことはやらない
(IN THE CONTEXT OF FFXIV) Since there is oxygen on the moon, there won't be troublesome elements like suffocation gauge or death when you exit the area.

・ The drop rate for loathsome memories of the dying has been increased for critical engagements in the Bozjan southern front.

・ The number of loathsome memories of the dying obtained upon completion of the critical engagement “The Battle of Castrum Lacus Litore” in the Bozjan southern front has been increased from 1 to 5.
・ The maximum number of Bozjan coins that can be obtained from personal spoils in the critical engagement “The Battle of Castrum Lacus Litore” in the Bozjan southern front has been increased from 26 to 100.

・ In the Firmament, upon accepting or completing the quest “Smiles Cross the Sky,” the NPC Mariorie would not appear and the concert could not be performed.

Mustard Bomb / Aetherial Spark / Nightbloom
・ In the Shifting Altars of Uznair, the blue magic spells Triple Trident and Tingle were unable to be learned upon defeating enemies after meeting the required conditions.
・ Upon using the pugilist action Perfect Balance, stacks of Perfect Balance were not consumed even if conditions were met.
・ Master Coeurl and Courser Chocobo encountered in the field yielded an incorrect amount of experience points when defeated.
・ Under certain conditions, opening the Favorites list on the market board would cause the game client to crash.

Not surprised. I challenged myself to grab all the Stormblood dungeon spells solo (thanks to Basic Instinct, it is now possible to solo most content as BLU btw), and Temple of the FIst was the only one that gave me major problems because most (if not all) of the enemies were immune to Deep Freeze, which meant they were also immune to Ultravibration and possibly Level 5 Death as well. Therefore, I basically had to do the dungeon legitimately as a solo Blue Mage. The other dungeons were abusable with Blue Mage spells, though Mist Dragon was VERY hard solo lol

Also, nice to see Castrum given more incentive. I'd jump in for those 100 coins per run (would love to complete my Samurai set) but after 60+ runs I'm way burnt out with Castrum at this point lol

Ran a Castrum this morning. Definitely feasible for a second resistance weapon now.

For the first step, definitely. But you still have to run Delubrum 15 times, unfortunately. It'd be less painful if people actually used their DPS Essences but most don't so on average each run is about 40 minutes.

I'm just going to run it once per week for now. No rush considering the next step is like 4 months away.

She's been main scenario writer with Banri Oda since Stormblood so makes sense. Yoshi-P said the team hasn't changed since then.

in stormblood she not main writer yet right? that time she handled different portion of the expansion like Azim Steppe part while others is by different writer. Shb is where she hold lead writer position.

She's actually credited for Main Writer and specifically the Doma/Far East Half in its entirety. Though she also gets together with Yoshi-P and Banri Oda to hash out the entire expansion and patch quest storyline for a while now, so it's probably not so black and white. Banri Oda is also credited for lead writer with her on Shadowbringers, as well.

yes, as i understand in Stormblood she not main lead writer yes as she handle half portion not whole like Shadowbringers.

Banri Oda part of the team and i understand also incharge of the world lore.

Yeah, though it's a group effort anyway. I imagine Oda brings in the plot lines they set up while writing the lore and Ishikawa is there to weave the overall scenario in general. Yoshi-P has final say, etc. It's cool with me anyway, they have a quality team for years now so I'm hype.

it is nice for Yoshida to keep highlighting that this is group effort instead of praise only one particular person. definitely this is not alone work. everyone there in the team deserved the praise.

eitherway so far i see this division is the one steadly bring out proven young talent for square enix. might be not too far-fetched to say that the future of final fantasy franchise gonna lie alot with this division compared to others in square. definitely place to nurture young talent.

i guess after 6.0, new writer will be handled new torch and things will be going over and over again. Yoshi-P always stressed how his team grow up and come far since 2.0 ARR. We can expect similliar stuff in next 5-10 years.

Leads in the writing/direction etc branching out at some point to work on other FF's/new IP's in Square Enix, etc. Yoshi-P is not afraid to change it up and it there's very little discrepancy ever since the Expansions started even though the entire team nearly changed post 3.0/HW. Testament to his direction and management.

He teases an interesting point in that GS article where 6.x onwards can have a different storytelling style with shorter storylines so 7.0 makes the perfect time to shake things up anyway.

yep. Yoshi- P didnt afraid to give chances to younger new face. Square fortunate to has guy like him in the management.

Sad since Revolutions is an amazing theme. Ah well, at least we still got Soken and co.

On the bright side, he said Deep Dungeons are returning. Great news.

hopefully Jason C Millers returned for Endwalkers. his work in Shb is amazing particularly To The Edge.

I bit the bullet and picked up FFXIV on sale earlier this week.

I started marauder and am probably looking at some sort of tank as my main job. What are people's thoughts on the current tank jobs?

I started marauder and am probably looking at some sort of tank as my main job. What are people's thoughts on the current tank jobs?
Marauder IS a tank, and becomes Warrior at Lvl 30. It's the least popular tank at the moment but all jobs are balanced pretty well, so it's entirely up to preference. If you want to try out the others, you can pick up Gladiator (which becomes Paladin) once you reach Lvl 15 in the storyline and can travel to other cities. Dark Knight is available once you start the first expansion but requires releveling from 30 (which is a bit of a grind, especially if you want to get started on the expansion), and I believe Gunbreaker is available once you hit lvl 60 and starts at 60 so it's ideal for a second tank without regrinding levels IMO.

Delebrum Reginae (Savage) is downright full retard. The devs really shouldn't make stuff like this without a better system for recruiting\joining.

i heard lot of case where player abandon the duty due to inbalance roles in party. some case you could end up with a party with no healer but full of tanks instead.

You're thinking of Normal mode, and the players that abandon those runs are dumb because there are Lost Actions you can take in Bozja that turn any job into a tank or healer. There are also DPS essences to make DR runs quicker, but maybe 10% of players use them lol, so each DR run is like 40 minutes on average when it could be half that...

this is the problem. not all people use them. not all come properly prepared. i saw on youtube there even samurai become tank in these run.

The prob mostly is that SE keys the difficulty with the expectation that 48 random people ALL come into the 48 man FULLY PREPARED. Everyone has to have the correct gear and special actions and at least take a look at the lengthy strategy guides\videos : Here's the text guide for suggested loadouts and strats.
Add to the problem that the expecation is to run it tens of times for upgrade pieces that have no utility outside of the same dungeon. So what you are getting is a lot of complex shit for people that will run it a single time for mount from achievement and then abandon.
 
I agree - as being a part of the meta I was able to get into descent groups.

But watching my FC mates struggle is terrible.

But also the rewards aren't fucking worth it. Especially since they won't matter come november
 
I think I figured out the new melee job in Endwalker, thanks to a certain piece of armor that dropped during my alt MSQ.
As a reminder: it is strongly hinted at being a scythe wielder thanks to Yoshi-P's choice of shirts, and he also confirmed in an interview that it will use Maiming (Dragoon) gear

So, here's the chest piece that dropped in the lvl69 dungeon:
That's right: RUNE FENCER. FFXI players might be rolling their eyes right now, thinking that FFXI Rune Fencers 1. are a tank job 2. use greatswords not polearms, and 3. aren't entirely melee... but take a second look at the gear... it's MAIMING (LNC/DRG)!
Also, the "Valerian" set of gear is directly lifted from Tactics Ogre, and this is how Rune Fencers looked in that game:

They can easily give them scythes instead of spears for XIV.

Edit: It has come to my attention that Rune Fencer's Japanese name is very similar to Mystic Knight, so they may call it that instead.

Things that annoy me about ff14 though:
1. PS3 textures
2. item level requirements
3. insignificant fetch quests

Still the best mmo of all time though. It would be nice if they could update the textures alongside the ps5 release though, as even the hair of main characters like the scions looks really bad by modern standards.

Things that annoy me about ff14 though:
1. PS3 textures
2. item level requirements
3. insignificant fetch quests

Still the best mmo of all time though. It would be nice if they could update the textures alongside the ps5 release though, as even the hair of main characters like the scions looks really bad by modern standards.
I am hoping that with the PS5s better hardware they can start updating some of these graphics. The game has a lot of cool art, but the texture work has really been showing its age for awhile now.

Just finished the Stormblood main story, have to say I enjoyed this expac a lot more than Heavensward. Now I'm muddling through the post expac stuff, will be nice to finally start Shadowbringers soon.

Definitely enjoyed Stormblood more than HW myself although both are quality. Post Stormblood Patch quests also contain some of the best post patch storyline.
 
I recently replayed through the first three expansions (saving ShB replay for closer to Endwalker) and I still think Heavensward is the best. It's the only one that feels like a traditional Final Fantasy IMO - you have a party of four (two of whom are mortal enemies who eventually understand each other) journeying across Dravania & Abalathia's Spine, culminating in a giant dungeon-like zone that is a feast for the eyes and ears (Azys Lla). I've yet to get that same feeling from the other final zones (the Lochs and the Tempest, respectively). And I haven't even touched on the story proper - it was so good that the Heavensward story team even got promoted to lead FFXVI!

Also, I loved the Church Organ-heavy soundtrack.
Stormblood is my favourite exp too. Not sure why the others get more recognition.
I thought it was good too, but on second playthrough I could understand the problems that people have with it. Specifically: Lyse and her character "development".

Some folks really hate Zenos as a villain too, but I think he's great.


Having said all that, I love that everyone has their own favorite.

Oh yeah, fuck Ala Mhigo and especially fuck that stupid Lyse. Yda was so much better.
When I think of Stormblood I only think of Kugane.

Zenos is decent imho, they tried to "Sephiroth" again and failed. But he's not that bad. Yotsuyu and Emet-Selch are much better (although the Emet Selch "ghost" is stupid).

People hate Zenos because he's a flat character. He is to a T the Blood Knight archetype. Which I think is fine. Fight for the fight itself.

Nothing thus far is going to top Emet-Selch. Very well written antagonist. He has his reasons for what he does. Very much a Magneto archetype. And I loved him for it.

Elidibus was underwhelming to me. When it comes to villains of the current xpac out of all them Emet and Vauthry take the top spot for me.

I just kinda feel like they keep bringing Zenos back when I beat him like 2 expansions ago (by the time endwalker comes out)
It also kinda annoys me how they keep reusing character models when introducing an Ascian (cough, Fan'daniel)

My problem with Heavensward was the antagonists were completely nonexistant. I don't remember them nor do I care for them. Nidhogg was more a force of nature and they did that better with Zenos- I also am quite invested in the Garlemald plotline of this saga, so it just hit me a lot more in Stormblood. HW is still a great expansion though and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them as your favourites. Every character, antagonist and setting serve a different purpose and do a solid job at it.

In terms of Emet-Selch, he is great, but he would have never worked as a finale villain for me. I need an antagonist I want to topple not sympathize with and Zenos fits that perfectly. And Fandaniel is fun for other reasons.

I'm more worried right now if they can do fun dungeons again. ShB took a step back imo and I did not like 5.4's at all.
