Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

I bet they want folks who like the series, but not total fanboys who just want to play the game early for free. So 100 (or more) probably would discount people if they got too many valid applications.

Im really that enthusiastic about playing and testing a new Final Fantasy game. Im going to guess they'll just pick by time spent testing and PC specs though.
 
I lied about my PC specs and put what I plan on having very soon. :o

By the way.. if the beta was as far off as March as a lot of people were thinking, wouldn't they just tell Japanese players to hold onto their codes and then give out NA/EU beta codes in Feb/March? I think they're trying to get out codes all over the globe now and are just about ready to get started.

They did say it would be a long beta period with some serious testing/really getting beta testers' feedback involved in development. It's also pretty unusualy to send out beta applications months in advance of the actual beta.

Could be that they anticipate plenty of people signing up just through word of mouth. I'm positive there will be enough without the newsletter. I think it's safe to say this closed beta is a beta in earnest more than a promotional tool.

Most likely. Especially since this is more like the JP FFXI beta and not NA, which was pretty much retail FFXI minus Zilart and some other things.
 
Applied, I was honest and put a 100 because holy fucking shit FINAL FANTASY, YOSHIDA and ONLINE makes me excited.

So fucking hyped.

I used to be that way, but then came FFVIII, FFX-2, FFXII (loved the gameplay but the found the story and music boring), and then they started diluting the series by putting lots of other mostly-unrelated games under the "Final Fantasy" label. No longer does the name "Final Fantasy" fill me with hype by itself. While I may be super hyped about FFXIV, the series in general no longer rates a "100", which is what the question was about.

Yeah cause back when they were whoring out Final Fantasy Legends 1, 2, 3 and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest things were so much different ...

Square has been milking its franchise from day one, dont think its any different now. If you like the games less, fine, but dont give me that excuse.
 
The stories werent really that much more awesome in the old days, either. They've always been quite straightforward, cheesy, and always fitting the same formula. :lol
 
Signed up an hour or so ago. Saw thread earlier while I was at work, knew i shoud of checked it. Cant believe they didn't send email asap, assholes.
 
Good 'ol GaF news first. Glad to come in this thread early and signed up, now that the servers are being bombarded. Of course that doesn't matter if I don't get picked lol!
 
Their site is getting hammered I think. Been trying to submit for an hour or so now and keep getting page timeouts. Still, kinda cool that they timed the FFXIV beta app for the same day as the FFXIII release.
 
Now that the sign ups are going...the guessing game for the first wave to start begins. Would be incredibly awesome if it was the last half of December/ First week of January, but i'm sure it wont be.
 
Well, it seems my recent venture back into XI may pay off anyway. Really looking forward to this, and hope they release more gameplay footage soon.

That'd be nice. Hope I at least get in to either the PC or PS3 beta. Don't care which one.
 
Id prefer PC beta since that will be the version Im mainly playing...but PS3 version would be cool to piss off some people on my friends list :lol
 
Well, I applied. PS3 verison, though. Don't have a PC that's worth a damn for this game so fuck that phase. Waiting (forever, probably) for the PS3 codes. *knock on wood*
 
Wait, so how does this work anyway, since I didn't play FFXI, can you play your PC account on the console and vice versa? Also I don't know how the region thing will work since I'm getting JP FFXIII with that FFXIV campaign code. :X

In FFXI your account isn't linked to your copy of the game, so you can log in and play it on any platform.

Not sure how the regions will work in this beta, though.

I know that's how it works with FFXI because I've played on all three platforms. I just don't see how that can possibly work with FFXIV if Sony really wants a cut of subscription fees for PS3 players.
