Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

Do you need to register the promotional code for the beta now and later on for the in-game secret item?

Or once I've used it I get both when the time is right?

Register it once now. The code you get for the FFXIV beta is the same code youll use for the in game item.

Buy FFXIII?

I'm considering it, but I'm without game budget for the next two months and honestly... it's pretty low on my list of things to buy compared to the sheer onslaught coming the first half o this year.

I want to go ahead and preorder FFXIV because, well I don't know why exactly, but I'll feel closer to actually getting it that way.

I used to play FFXI on PC, but my old character got deleted or whatever from inactivity, so I purchased it again on 360 (it was on sale) and I was able to use that PlayOnline ID to play my account on PC and 360 at that point.

Is the PS3 stuff going to work the same way? In other words, can I preorder the PS3 version and then borrow the PC disks from a friend and then play the same account on both?

Id assume that out characters are tied to our accounts so as long as we have an acount number and password, we can login anywhere on any system and play our characters. I highly doubt theyll limit us to what system we can play on.

Although I kind of wish they would, I think you are right :)

Different Factions would be cool since most MMO's are going this way, but I doubt that would happen. .

The double faction gig hurts WoW more than it helps it, keeping away from things that split the player base in half (which is an unreachable ideal, more like splits it in 90/10, 85/15, 30/70, etc depending on the server) is the way to go, IMO.

Especially for a game that doesn't have any real player vs player conflicting. All it would do is make grouping for anything twice as hard for no real reason.

Full battle theme is really nice, way better than the XIII one which usually doesn't even make it through the gigantic intro before the battle is over and is "remixed" (I use the term loosely) way too many times thus far.

FFXI had a shit ton of battle themes, I hope XIV follows suit for variety. I'd like to hear some big scale FFIV/LO styled ones mixed in with the synthy sounding ones.

FF11 may not have had race factions but it had starting area's which meant you would have different missions, different rewards for conquest and the most obvious being Ballista.

I do agree that having clear cut factions which can't interact with one another is a bad idea though.

so I registed FFXIII just fine on the EU website, got my code for FFXIV in my email, but when I go to the FFXIV site it says my Square Enix ID or password are wrong. But I can log in just fine on the original site. What gives?

There's a weird field called One time password and it says its for users who use a security token only, so I imagine its not for me. But why the hell can't I log in? Does data need to move from one server to the other or what?

It's torture waiting for the client to go up!

Probably just gonna stop thinking about it for now. Knowing SE it really won't be up there till next month.

So this April 1st thing is real?

Can't help but get the feeling they aren't ready for this can ya... lol

Hell if I know. But there's no timeframe or communication from SE in the beta forums, so there's no telling if it'll be out soon as in tomorrow or soon as in end of the month.

I can't help but feel like April 1st is just April Fools/speculation. It'll probably be later!

Waiting right along with you though, I have some big questions about things other than classes and abilities that need answering before I lock myself into years of this game. Namely things like jumping, exploration, etc. A lot of them are minute details, but they do add to the overall feel of the world.

It'll probably begin some time after the weekend. It's not a fully open test; there'll be specific times where the client will be available for testing...so it's not likely to start until they get back into business hours after the next few days.

All I want is for the beta to pass through with ease and the launch week to be relatively smooth - an Oceanic/SE Asia server would also be nice. Of course I'd be immature to believe in those things but one can hope.

Well I applied for the beta using my newly registered SE ID, didnt manage to link it to my SE Members account because there was no bloody visible way of doing it. There's a huge blue button thing on the US site but clicking it kept leading me in a stupid circle between the same login pages and I couldnt log in if thats what the stupid button was suggesting I do. Why give me a big blue button saying "connect your memberships" which links me to another page which has slightly different login form and big blue button which takes me back to the previous page? maybe they were the same page and I'm just really confused, but then thats even worse, you have a big blue button which takes me back to the same damn page!

UK/EU page had no such indication that the accounts were seperate or whatever. Not even a hint that "hey this is not the same as your SE Member account that you probably just created 2 minutes ago".

going to my SE ID settings and trying to link accounts, it lists playonline account but no SE members. So I assume its not needed or some crap. Loads of confusing messages, what an absolute clusterfuck of an online presence, already put me off the MMO universe if its gonna be as horribly managed as that.

have to go destress now, thanks a lot bunch of idiots running SE websites.

Yeah, the site is a total cluster. It's a bit easier to manage than the early days of PlayOnline, but that isn't saying much.

:lol

The NA site was pretty easy... I just went to S-E members, clicked on the login section and it asked me to use my S-E ID so that both accounts would be linked. Entered the info, confirmed it, and that was that.

I guess they are trying to hurry and bring all things under one ID, but trying to do too many other things in the process.

That sounds about right for an alpha phase I guess...still wondering how people with low spec systems got in though :lol If they cant even run the alpha client, whats the point?

Obviously it is important to know that the game won't run on a Atom based netbook with Intel graphics :lol

Hmm any gaffers with a spare code from XIII that don't plan on utilizing for XIV around? (worth a shot). Been saving for a new laptop since they announced it (don't have a PS3 since I only really play MMOs) so I don't really want to buy XIII since I won't be able to even play it.
Was the code only for pre-orders? or if i went ahead and bought it from gamestop now would I still be able to get this code?

the code is only for PS3 beta so it wouldn't really help your situation

They lied about their specs when they applied? I don't remember uploading a system config or whatever when I applied. I can't imagine SE would want systems that low.

Anyways, I signed up for the ps3 beta since I got the FFXIII code. I actually wanted to get in the PC version though. Hopefully the code nets me a better chance...

True, they didnt ask people for a dxdiag file or use any scanner...well still got my fingers crossed. I know everyone will get into beta eventually, but its always nice to test early.

I might be wrong, but I think you might have erased your chances of getting into the PC Beta by signing up for the PS3 FFXIV beta test by using the code that came with FFXIII.

so... anyway, once the commercial version is launched, how many Gaffers are jumping in? is anyone creating a gaf guild/linkshell/community?

There certainly has to be a GAF FFXIV guild. If no one else is feeling intensely passionate about it, I'd gladly take up the reins.

Where do you register the code to sign up for the beta?

Gromph said:
Yo need to register code, wait for FFXIV promo code, and then re-do the FFXIV beta aplication.

Oh ok, so it should come in an email?

EDIT: Ok i get it thanks.

I'll join in for sure. Probably get my friends to come tag along the same server.

Its always a good thing to mix it up. I think a few people from my old launch LS will be coming along for the ride, not to mention the current Stars of Destiny (GAF + others XI crew). I'm fine with Pai being the leader...just hope its a real guild/clan adventurer system this time around.

Yeah I know... that's what I was trying to say. I wanted to get into the PC-beta, but it seems like there might be a better chance to get into beta period with a code(albeit a PS3 beta). I'm taking a chance either way I guess.

I have around 8-10 guys that can come, and 4 that are extremely passionate about that game. I also might be able to get Numemonja :P

Hmm just poked around a couple of sites, some peeps posting today saying they aren't getting codes with their copies now. Ah well guess I missed my chance.

Though if any gaffers still have a spare code they wanna get rid off... :D

Wait, so people can't get their code now from their FFXIII copy, or they just don't know how to follow directions? It's a slow sight but pretty straight forward of what you need to do.
