Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

Wait, so people can't get their code now from their FFXIII copy, or they just don't know how to follow directions? It's a slow sight but pretty straight forward of what you need to do.

The latter.

I'm not really liking that battle song. It doesn't sound like Final Fantasy, it sounds like it came from some cheap low-quality RPG. Hopefully it's only the battle music for newb areas or something.

There is no hope for you!

Yeah... S-E EU member site isn't sending me a confirmation email. :(

Battle music is totally giving me some FFVIII and FFIX vibe. :D

- You say a Miner can bring "additional income" to the party. Does this mean a single Miner will benefit all members?

A: Yes, that's right. It will add to the treasure pool, and we are still discussing this, but we want to make it so more Miners increases the benefits. However, the trade-off is that battles will be more difficult.

This is pretty interesting.

CHARACTER CREATION

- Will players be able to choose between different tribes, such at the Miq'ote with Sunseekers and Moonseekers?

A: In the beta test, you will be able to choose between a limited number of tribes.

- What kind of characteristics will different tribes have? Will it be something like Sunseekers having brownish skin, but Moonseekers, being nocturnal, having whiter skin tones to select from?

A: Yes, like that. But more than just skin tones, there will be a theme or style distinct to each tribe, and from within that you will also have a wide variety of skin tones to select from.

- Will that level of customization in character creation be available in the beta test?

A: There will be a limited number of faces and hair styles to choose and beyond that, only hair, skin and eye colors will be selectable. More detailed changes to the face will not be available yet.

The battle music is unmistakably Final Fantasy to me at least.
^Going by that and the screens on the Jp site, preset faces?
Why can't they use face warping with a slider like in PSU (one thing it didn't mess up). .

Conjurer: Party support that can change between attack, defense and healing based on the situation. For players who want to do it all.

Red Mage?

It seems most classes have some kind of ranged attack, but will Gladiators get one?

A: We're considering a way for Gladiators to throw their sword.

:lol

Tempted between Archer / Gladiator. I hope there's an equivalent of Aegis for Glads in this

Wow this is sounding real good. I knew that they were hinting at selectable tribes a while ago. Also, everyone can defend just like in the main line games :D Getting excited for this all over again.

This interview confirms at least 3 more classes. Scythe, g-sword and a staff. I'm worried that they'll make redundant classes again. This could be a huge problem. I don't see what useful class a greatsword user could be. We already have the Marauder which is like a Gsword PLD/WAR/DRK.

- Can Archers make arrows by themselves?

A: Only Disciples of the Hand will be able to make arrows. However, in the future, by putting abilities from a Disciple of the Hand on an Archer, they could attain some limited crafting ability.

Cross class abilities confirmed. It looks like you can actually PICK which ones you want. Awesome :D

To me it sounded more like, if you have so much training in such-and-such class it will unlock a sub-ability for another or any other that isn't that class. Eg. You are a Master blacksmith so now you might be able to craft arrows when you are an archer.

Could not disagree more. It sounds like it could be a battle theme in FFXI.

I was hoping for unlimited ammo for Archers this time around. It was one of the main reasons for turning away from that job in FFXI it was either Archer or Corsair, I opted for Corsair in the end, the lure of the artifact armour got to me, not to mention Corsairs got in to parties a lot quicker than rangers.

As for my FFXIV beta sign up SE sent me a replacement code as the original one didn't work, turns out the new one they sent me doesn't work either. :(

I think someone is trying to tell me that I shouldn't be allowed in the beta.

Chocobo Knight class, please.

I have a real sensation about it. I read in the new infos something about cavalry.. i read in the past infos the chocobos will have different role in this chapter. So, dunno if my sensation can help in this case. :0 We'll see.

agreed! I wasn't sure if the tribes would be a lore thing or a full blown thing in the game. Love it!

I should be doing hw said:
What did Chocobo's do in XI? Mount is the only thing, sans a pack-mule, that I can think of.

From the first trailer choco seems to have a mule-style (with bagage and stuff). Really hope they don't reserve him only that work..

Awesome. Sounds so different from FFXI. Almost like an action rpg with that bit about Puglist running to increase effectiveness and damage for their Tackle weapon skill.

I'm Up for the GAF LS :)

@Darte Maybe i will have a code to spare in a few days.

I'm still really looking forward to this game but I'm a little disheartened at the classes.

They just seem...weird. I hope that either...

1. These classes are incredibly deep and can branch off into skills that are very different, like a Pugilist choosing a thief-like path or a monk-like path with very different outcomes.

2. These are only the 'basic' classes, not unlike how FFXI started out with the basic FFI classes.

They were mounts. Plus XI had the best Chocobo theme in the entire FF series, infused with Mizuta's amazing chord progressions.

I think people are stressing over the classes too much.

If your disappointed you only have your expectations to blame, I'm quite happy about the change myself.

Change is good. :D

Have they mentioned if they are going to keep the LS system or something similar? that is one aspect of FFXI that is far above a lot of other MMOs I've played. You can be part of many linkshells . For example, I was part of a BST-only LS alongside my main Ls and a NM hunting LS. It was an awesome system and I hope it makes a comeback here. Water Lancer only LS!

What I hope doesn't make a comeback is all the inventory fiasco. I am sure the PS3 has enough power to give players much more space than in FFXI.

Also, these classes are much more awesome than their FFXI counterparts so far. They seem to be taking the best aspects of the core FFXI classes and merging them into one. There is no need for redundant classes.

As for advanced classes, I hope they don't come back. Having to level to 30 only to then start all over again with the new class wasn't fun or interesting, IMO.

Am hoping this also, would be nice if a linkshell pearl doesn't take up inventory space this time though.

Well I think we have good reason to. Change is good, but this is really out of left field. I can't really complain personally since Marauder is new and sounds right up my alley.

Magic, however, seems completely unrepresented. Where is the summoning? The Blue magic? I don't even see any mention of healing/white magic which is essential to every RPG. I guess this is also personal, since I want to hype all my friends for this game but for some reason everyone I know only plays magic-based classes; I want some hype-fuel.

On a sidenote, am I the only one who thinks it would sound better if the battle loop started at 1:44 of that mp3?

So, what, everyone's assuming the info we have now is the entire game? :lol The alpha hasn't even started yet, stop acting like its the end of the world. We know more then we did, but its still not really a hell of a lot if you look at it.

Conjurer has cure and Thaumaturge can give up some of its HP to another person with sacrifice.

Granted there are no pet jobs which is a bit odd but they may surprise us there later on.

Blue Magic was non existent in FF11 for 5 years or more anyway, and Thaumaturge has the ability to steal beneficial magic.

Conjurer is basically a rdm mage where you can specialise in a specific magic class, be a healer or a fire mage or a water mage the choice is yours.

Dunno if already mentioned but..

Lalafel walks above on the water? WaterWalking Spell (hope)? ..or only low water (sigh). :x

If the job would be like the SMN at all I'd rather they not include it at all. There needs to be something that sets SMNs apart or it'll just become a gimped WHM that few people used like in FFXI.

Yea agree with that, in an interview they said that summons in FF14 are basically god-like, so the chances of them being playable is unlikely, the story will no doubt involve them though.

Just had a thought, if you look at the TP bar in this Pic it appears to be pretty big (2500 tp i think), do you think the TP could work like FF13's ATB system, as in the guage fills ups during battle which you then spend on commands in the action bar, probably unlikely but would make for an interesting addition.

Check dengeki interview.

This part

Q:When you think Final Fantasy, you think summons, so...
A:They'll make an appearance. However, they take on a role closer to that of being gods. There will be more than a few hurdles to get over before you can secure their aid.
