Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

My heart stopped when I had an e-mail from S-E delivered to my inbox... but it's just a newsletter indicating the official site has been updated. Some interesting info added nonetheless.

Hmm....naked sit-ups....never thought of that as a way of distracting myself as I wait for new information. Gotta give it a try.

Looks like the CGI model we already know.

Meh talking about Next Gen MMO's and then balantly ignoring T.E.R.A. online(which actually innovates, while having amazing graphics), before you guys go thinking this is some obscure mmo, it's pretty much the next Korean MMO, with a huge budget, they just haven't started to market it to the Western Audience yet. I doubt they'll have a big marketing budget though.

I'm interested in both FFIV and TERA, because I never played a MMO with PvE in mind(FFIV) and TERA seems to be the next good FFA pvp MMO.

:O Thank you for making me aware that Tera exists, looks amazing. Korean MMO's are usually free-to-play right? Hopefully I won't have to choose between that and this.

Edit:
Farrrk there will be a subscription fee...:(
I take it back, fuck you for letting me know this exists :lol

:lol Well you have to know it's a pretty high caliber game, their previous game had more than 3 million subscribers at one point. While FFXI had around 0,5 mil as peak.

I was hoping it would be one of those free ones that got it's money via nickle and dime purchases, like many Korean mmo's I've seen.
Damn, I'm going to have to work something out here...
Should keep on topic though, is there a Tera discussion thread around? If not, why?

Dunno why there isn't a TERA thread, not enough hype I guess. Though it's better to w8 with the hype. It is confirmed for the West, but who knows when it comes out.

Yeah I'll stop talking about it now. D:

edit: it's in it's 3rd closed beta in Korea atm.

That image was proved to be a fake on FFXIVCore.com

Does anyone have any idea whether or not you'll be able to maintain any levels, stats, etc. when going from the Beta to the full release? I forgot whether you could or not with FFXI's Beta.

Chances are (like with any beta), you won't. And what's this TERA talk?

I googled a thread from 2003 that said XI didnt let you keep your beta character. Chances are that XIV wont either.

One thing that worries me are the lack of character creation options in the alpha/beta. If we get in and have limited ability to create our character, are we stuck with generic looking characters when the full game releases?

Wait. You're almost answering your own question. :lol Yes, they are limiting for now the character creation options. They will fully be implemented by game release. Maybe even by open beta (if there is one).

Yeah Im just editing that whole post away. :lol

Actually, FFXI had a way for you to get your beta character back.

Just that the trick to do it came in only when the first or second wave of Return Home to Vana Diel around 2005 I think. Anyway I did retrieve my beta character at that point because a few months prior I ragedeleted my Mithra drk over people being awful in bcnm fights. :lol

But yeah, no way they're going to let you keep yours around release.

Ah the lessons of Korean MMOs, you will learn them soon enough.

Pretty graphics, pretty wrapper, nothing more.

Dunno, I played trough UO, DoaC, EQ2, RO, WoW, WAR, Aion, some of them good, some of them bad. The previous MMO I mentioned is (early)Lineage2, to date the best MMO I played.

While it did a lot of things wrong, it offered the best and most satisfying pvp and guild system ever made. I think anyone who played that game for a while would agree(at least those who played in the early days). Yeah the system was that good. I have honestly have heard no criticism on that aspect ever.

TERA seems promising to me, because they seem to mimic those system. Hoping that they don't screw it up with BG's and such.

You shouldn't be so quick to judge. ;)

Play one Korean MMO and you played them all huh?

Not saying that but my first experience with korean MMOs was so bad that i'll think twice before playing them again...

We don't even know if the PC beta will start on April 1st..let alone PS3 beta :(

Hey c'mon. Aion had big potential. Too bad the end game sucked.

You know, people say that about all MMOs that fail... it doesn't mean squat. "This game would of been awesome if it hadn't sucked!"

Gotta remember to register the FFXIII code tonight. Forgot to do so when I bought it, because I was too busy playing it.

Some of the recent screenshots look really nice.

Just registered it now, hope i get in on the PS3 beta whenever it rolls around :)

Is everyone that registered for the beta getting e-mails from SE? I registered but haven't gotten anything. Thinking of re registering from my Computer and not my Iphone this time.

Well, in Aion, it did. All it turned into was a zergfest rush on sieges. And by the time you got to the big bad ass boss at the end of it, you're getting rushed from behimd. Wash/rinse/repeat. That's where you want for points. Gear. Etc. Outside of that, the PvP as pretty damn good. I don't normally PvP but Aion had it right.

I downloaded the FFXI Ultimate Collection of Steam because it was 7.50 over the weekend, to see if I could get back into the game a little after so many years away. Yeah... I stepped into Sarutabaruta for about 5 minutes before I realized it just wasn't going to happen.

In that sense, XIV can't come soon enough for me. Hopefully my beta application went through all those months ago!

Like i told the LS the other night, I made a 2nd SE members acct to register for the ps3 beta so it wouldn't invalidate my PC applications :lol

- The aforementioned requirements are preliminary guidelines based on Square Enix internal testing. There is a chance that PCs which meet the specified requirements may not be able to run the FINAL FANTASY XIV Alpha Version client software.
- Square Enix will not be responsible for reimbursing testers for any PC equipment or peripherals purchased in order to meet the aforementioned requirements.
- For details on the aforementioned hardware/software, please visit the manufacturers’ websites.
- System requirements may change for forthcoming Beta Tests and/or the final release version.

TCP/UDP Port Numbers
The FINAL FANTASY XIV Alpha Version may use one of the following port numbers listed below. If you are using a router, you may have to adjust your router’s settings to allow packet transfer through these ports.

UDP 55296 – 55551
TCP 54992 – 55551
UDP 80, 443

P2P & UPnP
One of the methods used to distribute FINAL FANTASY XIV Alpha Version updates is via a peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing system. In the event of an update, the version update program will look to see if your PC’s UPnP settings are enabled. If they are, the program will automatically open a port and connect your PC with other testers’ PCs also downloading the version update, accelerating the download process.

Please Note:
- The version update program’s P2P functionality only allows for the uploading/downloading of Alpha Version updates. No other data will be transferred.
- The version update program will not work in tandem with any other third-party P2P software.
- Players using PCs or network peripherals that do not have UPnP capabilities can download the version update via the standard version update servers or directly from another tester’s PC.
- If you do not wish to allow the automatic opening of ports via UPnP, please disable UPnP in your router or OS settings. If your PC is using a global IP address or you have set up a static port on your router, you will not need to adjust your UPnP settings.
- While UPnP availability may differ depending on PC or network peripheral settings, the availability of P2P file-sharing does not. Rather, it may differ as a result of the individual policies of various Internet Service Providers.

Requirements for the alpha test.

My GPU is slightly under what they want :(

I am above everything they require, gimme a beta :D!

Anyway specs look kinda fair for a beta version (might be lower for the final game...).

10 gig install? For an 10% content Alpha? Windowed only at that res? Gamepad recommended? .......the hell kind of Alpha test is this! :lol

Coincidence that this will probably the console resolution xD?

Windowed sounds a bit lame...

This seems to be the most anticipated MMO for my friends since... I guess WoW.

Probably because it's Final Fantasy and XIII just came out.

guaranteed this will beat everything that came out after WoW, and the upcoming SWToR.

Gamepad recommended? I really don't like the implications of that little statement. WoW pretty much nailed the control scheme for MMOs, and XI's is not a path they need to continue along.

Quick! Taru panic!

My sister uses one of the PS2 controller to PC adapters for FFXI and its been fine. I used the Logitech Rumblepad 2 for it and it worked great. If I dont like the KB/M scheme for XIV, Ill probably just use that or the Dualshock 3.
