Alpha begins "in a matter of days" according to director Komoto. Looks like that April 1st date may have been true all this time. :lol

Um, am I allowed to talk about game details? (i.e. how the leveling system works, character creation, etc.) There's some pretty interesting stuff up on the beta site now.

Wow at that taru dancing :lol

I know I told myself I wasn't going to play FF14 after FF11 took so many years of my life but damn if If some old linkshell mate start playing I would be all over this again.

Not sure how I feel about the youtube video :/

Yeah the more i see it, the less i like it :/ , i hope they put a battle video soon!

I just saw those new character shots. They look a lot better then the character images they released like a month ago.

Is the highlander tribe male only? It seems like it from those shots. It's nice they included a non pretty-boy human option........... also facial hair, the more options the better :D.

Yeah maybe theres another/new race where one of its tribes is female only to balance them out :O

Or maybe just SE didnt have a female render ready! :P

I'm sure some other Brave Gentleman will post the details up somewhere or other.

What a great video, I hope they add new videos at least once a week.

The worlds and characters look very good, can't wait for proper textures :p

Gets a pass?
It looks fantastic.

It looks pretty good, yeah. But looks like FF XI-2. A cleaner remake of FFXI. I'll be nice and say that if Blizzard came out with their new MMO tomorrow and it looks like WoW Version 2, people wouldn't be as kind as they are here. So, I'll wait since this is just Alpha to see what SE can bring to the table. I believe I'm being very fair in doing so.

P.S. They need to lower the Spear on the back of the Galka. It looks bad in the video.

i'm going to go out on a limb and say this has surely been asked before, but I'm curious as to anyone knows the answer to this:

The promo code that came with the ps3 version of ff13--does that GUARANTEE you a spot for the beta, or no?

I think it says right on the website that the code is just for a chance....no direct guarantee for a spot in the beta.

I agreed, and I wish that their leveling system would be same as FFXI but i felt little awkward about new battle system/leveling system.

I'm looking forward to hearing details on it. Leveling your weapons was so boring in FFXI (it's boring in any MMO that uses weapon "skill" to level up) that I really didn't like the idea of basing your entire leveling system around in a new game. Hopefully it isn't that bad.

Hmm not sure I'm all that hyped over this video, if you compare it to Aion or Tera it seems to missing something at least graphically.

Still excited for it though.

Sorry if I am being ass to say that. If leveling system suck in FFXIV, I hope people decide to stay at FFXI and keep it alive for other few years. That would force them to make more expansions for FFXI. But I know I am dreaming. :(

I'm loving that everything looks like FFXI. Makes me feel right at home.

Although the one thing I'm not to keen on is the look of the Lalafell. They look more like children, whereas, Tarus looked like adults even while being pint sized.

People that are putting down the video are either crazy or have some unrealistic expectations. The jury is still out since we haven't seen any combat or how it'd run when there are hundreds of PC around, but this is a great first look.

How exactly do you get into this? I wasn't even digging the genre back when XI launched but I want to give this a go and I'm tired of World of Warcraft. Is there anyway I should turn or buy or? Any answers to this would be appreciated.

Step One: Quit WoW.

Setting Actions for Use
Actions that have been acquired by a character can be set to the action bar for use. During the Alpha Test phase, the maximum number of actions available at any given time will be limited to 20.

Barring a few class-specific exceptions, actions will be available for use even when using a class different from the one on which the action learned. However, the power and efficacy of each action is determined by its affinity with the character*s active skill.

Interesting.

Free trial for XI if you want to check that out a bit first:
https://secure.playonline.com/freetrialus/top.html

XIV Beta application site:
http://entry.ffxiv.com/na/index.html

Also, early copies of FFXIII came with a code to register on the SE site that gave you another code to input on the above application for the PS3 beta.

I thought SE said there would be no player levels like in every MMO, and the way to advance is to gain experience with your weapons. The manual states otherwise. hmmm..

I thought the implication was that the game wouldnt rely so heavily on player levels but a combination of things. I could be wrong though. I dont remember the direct quote.

Umm... It's missing all the textures, don't you know that the game is still in the alpha phase? So obviously it looks plain.

Seems like many people here do not really know that.

I'm well aware of the state of the game, and how do you know that there are textures missing are you just shooting in the dark here or have you actually been told this by the dev team ?

Just because its Alpha does not mean that the graphics engine hasn't been finished for some time now, Online games don't conform to the same development process as single player stuff.

So, I entered for the PC, couldn't get into the PS3 beta without the code. Although I'd prefer to play it on the PS3, aaah, the comfort of a big sofa.

Do you have eyes? Do you know anything about computer graphics, about video games?

So much for no leveling.

And how were you thinking on getting those weapons skills? By osmosis? Class level, character level, skill level, weapon level, etc, etc, etc. The only way to not have any levels at all is to masquerade them from the players by hiding the numbers and then just have the abilities to be learnt *randomly* while fighting or crafting or w/e. But levels would still exist one way of another, anyone thinking otherwise was just being naive.

Ok well I played the beta of Aion and have seen enough of the Beta of Tera to know that both looked better graphically, so your whole point is moot.

Of course you can say well FF14 is in Alpha and I'm sure you will but I don't care enough to listen :)

This isn't about attacking FF14 by the way, so get off your high horse.

LOL go read that FF14 manual it specifically say that character levels and skill levels are seperate from one another. (its basically the same as FF11 in that respect)

So I read the manual and they say there are a physical level and a skill level ? Interesting, the level system of a lot of MMORPG is still here it seems.

If a character*s HP is reduced to 0, he/she will be *knocked out* and no longer able to move or act. A character can be revived by selecting *Return* from the main menu and choosing a destination from the listed aetheryte camps or aetherial gates.

* If a character is KO*d while participating in a levequest, he/she will be teleported back to the corresponding aetheryte.

* For the duration of the Alpha Test, characters KO*d will receive a weakness penalty which will not only lower total HP, but also reduce the speed with which their action gauge fills, as well as increase the length of casting times. This penalty will last five minutes before wearing off.

Sounds good. Let's hope they keep the death xp penalty out of this game.
