Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

I'd be surprised if they didn't put Mime in this one. They mentioned that they thought about putting it in FFXI (in Treasures I think it was) so maybe they'll be able to add it in here.

Would love it.

Not sure if Reddit is linkable on here so if it isn't you can feel free to remove it. I tried to find if it was on a list of banned sites but couldn't find the list.

Someone is keeping this updated with all the latest stuff from the alpha.

http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/

Lists what options are available in the character creation screen etc... All types of different info.

PDT on the first guess.

Prime time for all 3 timezones.

Can anyone who will be playing the closed alpha confirm if wired 360 controllers work/ have force feedback?

Not sure how many have wired controllers these days.

If PS3 beta = Beta 2...and you had to have a FFXIII code to even enter for a chance to get into PS3 beta, does that mean there will be no true open beta?

I'm pretty sure they stated that there will be an open beta.

They've translated some new info and impressions from Famitsu on ZAM.

Most info has already been covered but this part was interesting:
Freedom of Growth

In FFXIV, what most MMO players know as "levels" will be the character's "Physical Level." Points you accumulate in battle can be freely spent on HP/MP, physical strength, intelligence or a variety of other parameters. In other words, you can focus on one aspect of your character, or aim for balance between all stats. The ultimate decision regarding the direction of the character is completely up to the player.

edit: some new pics too, but wasn't sure if it's ok to put them up here

Hmm... Interesting. Going for a Diablo II type upgrading/point allocation system. Me like, me like. :D

So what time is the Japan Alpha happening in JST, saying what time it is in America is no help to those of us in Europe :S.

Nice Zam arcticle, am so hyped for this, lucky Alpha testers is all I can say. :(

it sounds more like RO, with the potential ability to reset your stats at endgame. You will most likely can only max out 2 or 3 stats, you won't have enough points to allocate all.

you'll find people that will level up using balanced stats and then switch to focused stats for special events.

Actual stat allocation in an mmorpg?

Mind. Blown.

EDIT: lol forgot that RO did this as well.

Famitsu boasts that the character creation system is so deep, you'll be nitpicking your avatar setting all day long trying to get it just right. Even the alpha, while not complete, has a considerable amount of variations available such as face type, skin color, hair style and body size. There are even smaller details, like putting highlights or streaks in your hair, that are customizable. There will be brand new aspects of your character to select as well -- there will even be a number of different voice types.

The character creation process begins with selecting one's race and customizing the avatar. Once your character is complete, you begin the game and set up your Class, birthday and Guardian Diety. What effects one's Guardian Diety will have in game are unknown at this time. Once all those steps are complete, you choose your name, which as we know consists of both a first and last name.

Pics dont look like scans, they should be ok?

FFXIV will have a seamless transition between areas that requires no loading time. From their experience with the game, Famitsu says this really gives Eorzea the feeling of a wide, expansive world. In addition, the background music transitions naturally between the areas you traverse.

Using the Effect Gauge - You can activate commands immediately, or you can enhance their effects by storing up your Effect Gauge. This gauge is constantly building, so timing is important. Below you can see there are three levels to the Effect Gauge.

Makes me wonder what happens when you choose a different class, the stats you built for a gladiator is no use to a conjurer for example.

So either you will have a stat list for each class or you can reset when you feel like it (prob for a fee).

Allods uses a stat point growth system also FWIW.

Oh man! I love the look of the new Status & Equipment window! So refreshing! :D

there are less equipment slots compare to FFXI though, my feeling is mix, on one hand you'll not have to worry about carrying a few sets of earrings or rings or belts..etc on the other hand there isn't much customization and looting.

C'mon Beta 1 invite :lol

With S-E saying Beta 1 is more or less the same as Alpha, heres hoping for a quick Alpha with little to no problems.

Could be a ton of armor styles though, especially since it seems like all equipment will be displayed.

so reading more on zam's page, it seems all abilities will have an activation time? so we won't see instant activation of skills like in FFXI? ie: job abilities. And how does effect gauge work? does it only start counting after you've reach activation?

Actually, if you look... It looks like "Waist" is on there, which I assume is for belts. Then instead of rings and earrings, it looks like like we have "Undershirts" and "Undergarments".

Seems like a fair trade. :D

Disciples of Magic have a basic magical ranged attack that does not consume MP

Makes sense. A mage wouldnt run up and whack you with his/her rod/staff if they had a choice.

I'm a liiiitle concerned that a 2 star quest already wants a 6 man party. My group of friends that will play is about 4 or 5 people and it would be cool if we didnt have to fish for more people online in order to move froward in the game

2 Star party is for below 6 members.

3 Star is for 6-8 members

no i think you are still free to do the quest with how many people you want or solo. it's just a meter for you to gauge how difficult the quest is.

The amount of equipment you can wear really says nothing about customization. You could make wildly better choices and impacts with just a few pieces of armor if the systems are setup right.

It's a design choice.

Also, given that we know absolutely nothing about any form of itemization and the majority of character progression in this game, it says nothing about looting and it's impacts as well.

FFXIV takes more nods from Monster Hunter on the streamlining than it does from any other existing MMO. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the philosophy is being used in other portions as well.

Monster Hunter, for example, gives you five pieces of armor. Five. And it makes significantly better use of them than just about anything else of that nature due to it's skill system and resource management.

So who knows what they'll have. Gemming, reforging, upgrading, enchanting, more proper skill augmentation. This in conjunction with the rest of the unknowns about the game, such as the reaches of the job system, it's subelements and stat distribution being brought up, it's really too early to put much thought into it.

Meat Miq'abob

I laughed.

2 Star party is for below 6 members.

3 Star is for 6-8 members

I hope the game has the tools to work around this (ie; outskill and plan harder quests when reasonable), or at the least a matchmaking system within the ballpark of Warcraft's? If there's anything I wanna see come out of that game and litter the genre, it's their very strong matchmaking engine.

But no shoes :O

There is a feet slot according to another image I've seen. But it was a recreation of it so it could be wrong but I am pretty sure it is there.

Oh yeah, what gives? :(

You'd think shoes/boots would be kinda essential?

Hopefully. Wouldn't make sense otherwise. :-/

well see on the North American site SE announced all of the different region testing times in Pacific Daylight Time

PDT = GMT -7

JST = GMT +9

therefore you should add 16 hours to the PDT times posted here ;)

The stat growth things has me worried in that, some people just aren't guna have a clue where to put there points, so you will end up with some horrendous party situations.

Then of course you have the other side of that coin with the min/max'ers (whispers elitists) who won't party with you if you don't have a specific build.

As for the shoes I'm guessing they were hidden by the blue selection box.

I not long woke up, its too early for math @.@

One would assume if they're going to have any configuration like that, they'll have methods of resetting/respecing it. It'd be way, way too dangerous otherwise. No one is going to know what the hell to do with their stats until difficult content and math sessions down the line.

Cool, cool, thanks for the clarification.

Those new screenshots looked pretty good :)

I don't know what you people see in this music that I don't, but 10 tracks in and I haven't liked a single one yet. Uematsu has still lost his touch in my opinion.

Guess you'll have split types within the classes themselves.

probably with a fee.. it can be abused too if you can just switch around easily.

Try... 0E, 0F, 10, 16, 1A, 25, 3F, and 42.

Battle tracks are still good imo (you'll know which ones are battle tracks just from the sound).

City of Limsa Lominsa's theme is really nice (the first trailer theme). Hopefully we'll be able to place more names to tracks before the testing is over.
