Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

I just thought. You know how The windower came about because of SE being stubborn and not adding window mode, and then some guys came along, made the windower and loads of cool helpful addons popped up, I wonder if hardware mouse will be the new windower.

So apparently this guy wrote a patcher that will enable hardware mouse mode...

It might get you banned if you use it, though.

I'm not gonna use it since I don't really have that big of an issue with the mouse.

Gonna try it tonight. Who cares for a beta-banning lol

From Beta site:

At the following time, a new update for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version went live.

[Date & Time]
Sep. 6, 2010 at 9:00 (GMT)

[Affected Services]
FINAL FANTASY XIV

[Important Update Details]
- An issue where the game will forcefully shutdown in case multiple effects are being displayed by a mass number of characters has been addressed.

- An issue where the ripple effect is displayed improperly in case the character walks near the water has been addressed.

Eh, I just don't bother with the official patcher anymore. I start it up, double click on the torrent file in the magical directory and download it quickly and effortlessly. Then I just copy the patch file over to that other magical directory, restart the official patcher and it all works like a charm :p

link plz. krizz doesnt have it yet

You guys know that when the patcher is "stuck" at 0.0% it's not really stuck right? The bar is just frozen, the download is still happening. So just be paitent and leave it, it will DL eventually.

Nah, I left it and it timed out on me a few times now.

I've had 4 updates go through despite staying a 0.0%

You're lucky then. This just times out and quits itself, then I start it up again and it's still 0.0% on the red patcher. I checked the patch folder and there's just a 1KB file in there.

Again, forget everything else negative said about the game, I'm willing to overlook all that. If they can't get THE
FUCKING
PATCHER right I'm not sure I feel comfortable giving SE $80 in 2 weeks. :lol

Can't find the link, but here are the MAGICAL MAEK PATCH WORK DIRECTORIES:

[My Documents]\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo - this directory for the torrent file.

Download it, and then place it to..

[My Documents]\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch - this directory for the file you download with the torrent file.

If you get a RED patch, they are in a different directory in the ffxiv-beta-folder - something starting with b :lol

- An issue where the ripple effect is displayed improperly in case the character walks near the water has been addressed.

yay, this was so annoying. the ripples would be coming out of the water on my game.

I'm programming an app for release, so i can host every patch when SE release it.

:)

Does anyone know if they will be releasing any bigger updates during this Open Beta, or do we have to wait for Retail to see what they are cooking? Would love to see them add more monsters to Thanalan during OB as there currently aren't enough monster to kill (even on a low pop server like Rabanastre).

Has anyone figured out how you regain Guardian Favor?

They're spending time fixing water ripple effects? I know they're a company that values polished visuals but...
I'm sure they're able to do more then one thing : P Hotfixes are to be expected.

I'm about to blow everyone's fucking mind.

The 48hr cool down on leves is somewhat a myth/wrong!

I went to Limsa, Ul'dah, and Grindia today. Today having been 2 days since new leves happened. So I wanted to do all battle leves for my 8. Only way to do that is to travel to all the nations and get their level 10 ones for battle leves. So I did 3 at Limsa, 3 at Ul'dah, 2 at Gridnia. Came back to Limsa, checked counter and it let me trade them back in for new ones already. Had been maybe 5 hours?

So I tested it. Grabbed 3 at Limsa, did them. Went to Ul'dah for 3, did them. Now I'm in Gridnia and did 2 more. Game crashed on me and I was going to back to Limsa to see if I could cycle them once again, but I'm pretty damn convinced you can.

All you have to do is travel folks. :)
This is so wrong, leves resets at the same time for everyone, so you can do 8 leves and do the next 8 right away, they're still every 48 hours, you will see soon:lol

I'm just agreeing with some other posters that think having a very long cut scene as your intro to the game is good for the story portion, but can be a major turn off for people wanting to get into the game right away.

There is nothing stopping them from pressing escape key and skipping the cutscene, of course its these people that then turn around and whine when they don't know whats going on.

People are used to playing WoW style games where you get a quest log pop up and you skip it and don't read it, only looking at the bit that tells you what you have to do to complete the quest.

There are a lot of people who don't play JRPG's because there are too many cutscenes, if you don't like watching cutscenes then find something else to play .. :) not ever game is suited to everyones tastes.

FF14 being a good example.

This is correct, if you pick up your leves and complete them 2 hours before reset, then you can do them again almost instantly.

Hmm why hasn't there been a "This game going to be on steam" accouncement? I want to buy a 4pack for $30 a pop. *shakes fist at SE*

Has anyone successfully completed one of the "battlewarden hunts"? Pretty much a battlewarden spawns at a random notes and you have to kill some special monsters. Wonder if rewards are only cash or items or BOTH? :lol

That hardware mouse fix or whatever it was by a community member is for the win.

And it is fucking disgusting that SE couldn't have whatever he did as an option in game configuration...

PS3 limitations.

Just in case people dont know: PS2 limitations was a long running joke during FFXI. I think it came from people asking the XI team why certain things werent in game or couldnt be done, and they would usually reply with something about PS2 limitations?

you have to click on the Final Fantasy Bete Version Configuration in your start menu, or program listings. There you can configure your game.

I can't figure out how to get it in full screen :(

There is a separate config program you have to run, you can't do it from inside the game. Yeah, I didn't figure that out myself either.

some resolutions does not allow full screen, but you can fiddle around with resolution and see which ones support fullscreen.

i get really bad fps somehow during full screen :/
