Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

I made a carpenter class and was surprised how random the craft system is? I get 4 crafting actions and no direction on how they actually work, and it seems like the only way for me to gain experience?

Why would anyone do this?

(Question marks?)

Go get a local leve I guess? There are tutorial leves too, so im not sure if more will be added to that in retail.

Also how can you tell if you're fatigued/approaching fatigue?

hteng said:
so how do you know your current class is in fatigue ? There are no status icons, nothing to indicate other wise.

I just noticed when I did a lvl10 leve and the mobs were giving me 1500xp, then I came back later and did it again under the same circumstances and they were giving me exactly half that.

your SP becomes orange when u look at it in the menu
i think?

something like

3693/7500

also when u earn a surplus of sp?
i hadn't seen this message since i started the open beta though

fatigue doesn't affect experience points at all

I'd also like to know. I've been killing monsters and taking guildleves as a gladiator and the XP doesn't seem to have dropped.

Edit: Ah, thanks. I'll check it out here in a bit.

Edit: Nope, nothing yet. lol

Conceited said:
It doesn't? Then why was my XP halved? (I didn't gain any levels in between the leves either)

it doesn't
SE said that, i believe?

makes sense really, since they can't really implement it without a way to get around it
unlike SP fatigue that allows you to change job and have it stopped and revert

iono why you got less points though
the xp/sp reward system in this game make no sense to me

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Seriously, forget about exp. Its not even a point to even talk about. Anything you do, you get exp. At the rate you get exp vs class, you will cap out on physical rank wayyyy before you cap any class rank.

You seriously can't install this to a second hard drive? It doesn't even give me a choice to install to anything but my C: drive. So dumb. Will the final game be like this?

Edit: How odd, it will let you install but you have to have enough to install to your C: drive before it even gives you a choice to install to a different drive instead.

What is your level? You would be the first I've heard if hitting surplus.

I just cut and paste my documents folder to my d drive haha

Wait, that seriously works to trick it? :lol Why do companies still make stupid things like this for installs.

Ugh, I'm stuck at this stupid thing checking for updates. It prepares to download and reaches a 100% but then when it says downloading it doesn't actually do anything. There are no times and download speed is 0.0. Very disappointing so far.

go inside the folder, and go into the meta folder there will be torrents there, use those. The first patch is like 4gigs

I don't see a meta folder. Data and Client are the only two folders I see.

Edit: I see it now, was looking in the wrong place. Hopefully this turns out faster. I'm assuming they're just .exes?

Phys 17, was Rank 13 Archer at the time.

Combat skill ups are pretty random. You can kill two of the same mob and get zero skill up points from one and 200 from another. It's a completely separate issue from fatigue and something else which should be adjusted. Harvesting skill ups have always been consistent and crafting skill ups were wildly inconsistent in previous beta phases but were fixed in open beta, but unfortunately combat skill ups weren't touched.

You will know if you're fatigued because you will get messages in the chat log saying you are getting surplus skill points and your current rank points on the progress bar on the main menu will be in orange numbers. In phase 3 it took taking a class from rank 1 to rank 14 in a single week to start getting fatigued. It sounds like you're not suffering fatigue but just got bad luck not getting many skill ups on some mobs.

I wasn't talking about skill ups, I was talking about XP.

Ugh, everything about this game is good EXCEPT for the gameplay.

Do I just put it in the folder where the torrent links were or where do they go? I don't mind the updating, it's just that the downloading was projecting close to a week to finish downloading since it was doing so at 13.3kb/s roughly. I hope it's not this bad with the final game. This whole process just feels so painful.

Yeah you put them in the same folder, well there is a folder called patch in that same area that's where they go.
there should be two folders one with a b near the start and one with a d.

Grab the torrents and drop the patches where they go when it comes up :D

Sounds more complicated than it is

What is there to do after finishing battle leves? I seem to can't level up anymore. I'm level 6 gladiator right now.

I have to wait 48 hours for more battle leves? This game feels slow and boring.
I don't remember ffxi being like this.

go to lv10 camp and ask to join other ppl's leve

solo marmots/rats/moles for sp/xp

mining/harvesting/crafting will net u good xp too

but yeah...that's it...
retail version better have way more contents than that......................if they ship a blank disc again....

Alot of the stuff isnt available, we're just not sure how much.

I dont remember ff11 having a ton of quest to level off of.... you kinda just killed monsters in that. hey why dont you do that here!

The lack of xp chains is a pretty big deterrent.

anyone know how to mind? i've very clueless on how to successfully excavate material.

first theres this bar thing that says material expose, what exactly does this do?

second there's the circle that probably indicates how hard you strike with your pick, but it seems you can only strike 3 times at most, no matter how small or how big it is.

then there's the information after each strike, you get something like "you are getting closer" "you don't find anything interesting"...etc, how should i react to these messages ? strike harder? strike softer?

I lost the post saying how to get to each city and their leves. Gridania sucks. I miss Limsa. =x

from gridania, travel allllllllllllllllll the way south to the other end of Black Shroud
you will zone into a desert area, where Ul'dha is visible on the map

from Ul'dha, travel NW, then W, until u see a boat on the map
ride to to get to Limsa

How long does that take? 30 minutes?
Is it safe or will there be some monsters that will aggro and 1 hit you?

How do I attack the monster that is attacking me? I hit tab and sometimes it takes forever to tab to that monster or I hit tab too many times. Mouse clicking seems slow but maybe I'll have to use it.

I know, right? I'm looking at a few of these screenshots and my jaw is on the floor.

Why can't it play as good as it looks?
Because SE is making it.

20 minutes from gridania to uldha?
20 more to get from uldha to boat? (boat ride takes time, but u just sit around)
just guessing though
i killed helpless bunnies along the way

Ant Diggers will aggro kill you
but there's only 1 place where you actually need to avoid them
which is on your way to uldha

just remember to activate all the camps on your way

FFXI didn't have xp chains for ages. And for years they had a max chain of 5 or 6 too.

Man, this sounds like it's taking the game right back to the beginning, which is kind of nice for me. I just can't decide whether to try out the beta or have a totally clean slate when the retail version comes out.

I believe you can still participate in other people's leves, you just can't start your own.

After putting a good number of hours into the open beta I think I won't be buying this game day one. I may get it sometime down the road , but the performance of this is just awful. The menu lag + the game running in <15FPS in towns makes this game unplayable for me. Lots of small problems ruin the game for me.

Conceited said:
Yeah, but I don't see why that's a reason FF14 shouldn't have them from the start.
Really?

The MMO has to be really carefully controlled at the start of its lifetime. In the case of FFXI, chains and significantly easier EXP were added to the game so that it became easier to level new jobs up. There's no point in enabling a subset of players to sprint their way to the level cap within the first week. Stall them, make them enjoy the other aspects of the game first. That's kind of key at this stage.

may i know what are you PC's specs? I'm having the exact issues, i even get <10 FPS at the market place. Limsa seems to be worst out of all the towns, Uldah was alright.

then again, i'm on a Core 2 Duo, so the CPU has been choking like hell trying to process everything.

i've squeezed pretty much everything out of my laptop. Is this the most demanding MMO in the market or what? Im somewhat regret getting this laptop early without thinking arg..
