Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

I'm not in the mood pay for XIV and then bitch+wait for it to get better, maybe theyll have the issues sorted and integrate feedback by the time the ps3 version is out. If anything the game needs to experience a bit of bomba on release to light a fire under the devs asses and get them to listen to their playerbase.

In the meantime, going to keep playing XI, with their new updates and a backlog of stuff to still do in game - i'm just not feeling the need to rush into XIV, especially in its unfinished state.

I'm thinking this is going to keep a lot of people from jumping right away :lol

i don't have a choice, i'm leaving XI after this month!

I just cancelled my pre-order. The open beta is horrible and I don't like the game at all :(

I've been playing a Sorcerer in the open beta but it is pretty shitty. Lots of lag, frame rate problems, etc. Any class I should try? Also, any tips to make me like the game a little more?

I really liked lancer and pugilist so far. Archer is pretty cool but I'm not sure how long I'll stick with it.

I just preordered the CE during lunch break. I guess I'm the opposite of all the preorder cancellers. I didn't care about this game at all a week ago, heard there was a free open beta, tried it out and now I'm on board. Sure it's kind of a mess and a lot of stuff about the game is ass backwards but hey, there's a great game in there that I enjoy and I'm willing to look past the problems. I wouldn't recommend it to any friends I'm trying to keep but for now, I'm in :D

Interesting if we can get a tally of GAFfers still in for launch.

Count me in. :D

CE day one for me.

- The cost of certain items sold by NPCs have been adjusted.

Please be equipment. Keep adjusting those prices S-E.

Me and two friends did some partying this weekend. XP wasnt outstanding but mobs dropped fast and because of that, we did pretty well I think. My biggest gripe is that its all moving xp. I very much prefer the "pull it to camp" method in FFXI.

But your avatar is Adol...how can you like camping?

Turn off ambient occlusion and depth of field. You should get a really decent framerate boost. Other than that, Sorcerer? You mean Conjurer or Thaumaturge?

Also try a gamepad if you cant get around the current keyboard config (or mess with the config options).

Question for those with more experience in Gridania than I do. I thought I went around to all the NPCs but the only weapons I saw I could buy were: Bow + arrows, and crafting stuff. Did I miss swords, lances, h2h?

Did you check any of the merchants in the two alley sections? Red dots mark them on the map. I think theres a guy from Limsa selling beginner swords and axes.

Check the marketplace on the east side of town. I found vendors there with some of the other weapons.

I'll check again tonight, probably just passed over them :(

rank12 lancer atm
and i thought it sucked :X
misses 50% of the time even with high dex

What are your stats?

I'm Marauder and have put most of my stats into STR and DEX and hit pretty consistently but then I'll have a streak of missing like 5 times in a row and it drives me crazy :lol

Also random question:
If I change from Gaxe to Lance. Do my stats reset and I get to adjust them again? If I change back to Gaxe will they go back to my Marauder stats? I guess a better example would have been to compare Marauder to Conjurer or something.

You'll keep your same stats. So if you change to a lvl 1 Lancer, you'll keep whatever stats you gained during your time as a Marauder.

Should make it easier to get other jobs up to par if it works the way I think it does. At least jobs that need the same stats.

Also mages, dont neglect VIT.

I hope they have presets. That's going to be really frustrating if you end up changing jobs a lot especially at later levels having to re-distribute stats every time. Did they confirm that they'll keep it open when the game launches?

btw the Story Missions have been disappointing.

I finally reached rank 10 a few days ago to see the next part to Ul'dah, and all it had me do was run back and forth to watch cutscenes. I don't mind watching cutscenes, but I want to be more involved in the game. There should be more story missions, and they should involve more then cutscenes. One every 10 ranks doesn't cut it.

I remember by level 10 in FFXI I had killed some Orcs, fought my way to the King's tomb, and saved some kids from an Orc hut. So far in Ul'dah I've done nothing but run around talking to NPCs (and play a shitty emote game).

don't remember the stats
pretty much split them (lv16 atm) between vit and dex c
uz of all the misses, i needed more hp to survive

from reading another board, sounds like it's a lancer thing to offset its high damage

you can't re-distribute ALL your points at once too
so if u need to play mage for some event
gotta start reassigning points hours ahead

Velion said:

that option wasn't always there and it wasn't included in any version update notes (if it was I must have not seen those notes). I'm not going to re-read the manual every update.

Obtaining loot: Only visible to you and your party members.

yay ^^!

Happy: ok, I thought you was being negative because 90% of the comments towards me are negative, sorry.

Where are the preorder numbers being pulled from, and how recent are they? Only since open beta started have I seen a lot of people (myself included) saying they're taking a pass at launch, so I'd be real curious to see the effect OB had on preorders.

It allows me to nap between pulls?

Nah, Im not sure why I like it. I guess I just like the setups and everything with the mages lined up in a corner somewhere while the DDs and tank man the front and the ranged job pulls.

Dont forget the guildmark traits you can buy that make your Mnd stat equal Str or Dex equal Int.

I forget if its an even exchange or just 10 points worth. Go check a guildmark npc and see whats up.

Actually I like having rows in game too (everyone has some sort of ranged attack now though) but we should be able to do that even with mobile exp.

Teknoman, any chance you're online so I can grab a linkpearl from you?

EDIT: Oh and day 1 CE for me. :)

Just finished updating, so going on now.

You can put me on the retail sucker player list for now. At this point I'm not sure if I will keep my preorder or not. If Square can make the game client stable before launch then I'll be in.

One thing I noticed that sucks:

even though the hardware mouse patcher makes the mouse perfectly smooth, the game camera still only updates at 30fps. The game is running at 60fps (in certain places), but the camera is clearly updating at 30fps.

Also:

custom controls don't work properly. Every time you restard the game, you have to open the menu, and go to the keyboard control customization screen again for the custom controls to enable.

Also2:

game is really unstable in fullscreen mode. I need to run in Windowed mode for it not to crash every 2 minutes.

Alt-tabbed and came back to this:

Hey, I'm home from PAX, and I kinda began the game!

Before I get into this bitch, for realsies:

1) How can I force V-Sync or Triple Buffering? I almost literally can't play a game if it has screen tearing.

2) I need a link to the hardware mouse patch, I suppose.

3) The graphics weren't stuttering too badly, but it was like I was playing this game over OnLive. I would hit W to move forward and it wouldn't react for around 700 or 800 milliseconds. Is THIS the UI lag that everyone was talking about? Holy shit.

4) Is Full-Screen mode really bad? Should I run it Windowed?

5) Character creation was actually quite impressive. Tons of customization.

I searched "FFXIV pre-order numbers" and all I'm seeing is a couple of places saying that, as of the beginning of August, there are around 115,000 pre-orders for the PC version.

Is this where your numbers are coming from?

2) Hardware mouse patch works perfectly. C'mon, Square-Enix, get on it.

3 and 4) The lag went away when I changed the game to Windowed mode. It's not bad if I set the resolution to the same as my monitor, but there's still that annoying Windows bar at the top. Any way around this? Windows 7 won't let me perfectly center the window, as it doesn't allow the top edge of the window frame to move past the top of the screen.

Can anyone pearl me up? Not on for long tonight (already midnight here) but would like to participate in GAF-based action sometime.

Canti Socanto if any sack holders can contact me. I can tele to Ul'dah or Girdi-whatist to meet.

Feep what you were describing in point 3 is not the UI lag, and just general server lag. Normally the movement is pretty responsive. UI lag happens (or happened) when trying to switch in new abilities or gear, and still happens when dealing with NPC vendors and such. It's better than it was a few weeks back but still needs to be tightened up.

Can anyone help me out with an issue I'm having with the updater? I keep getting timed out at 99.7%. I haven't really been keeping up with the whole beta snafu, but I'd like to check it out at some point tonight and possibly join the linkshell or whatever they're called in XIV

Yep, all you need is your OS X disc and a Windows disc. Just start up the Boot Camp Assistant (In the Utilities folder) and it's pretty automated from there.

My suggestion is to turn down some of the graphic settings in configure, welcome back from PAX, anything neat happen there?

My biggest disappointment so far are the available races. I didnt like them in XI and I dont like them here, for a Final Fantasy game I expect much better :(

I kind of feel the same way, I like the elvaan, mithra, and taru taru copies but I would have liked Viera and Male Mithra in this game.

i liked them in FFXI
but yeah it's very disappointing that they didn't really try to strive for more
hell, they didn't even try to create some new hairstyle (unless they are saving some for retail)

was a waste of talent like Yoshida

the only new thing they added was the butch Hyur M for US

How can I make bows/arrows and new gear for my archer? I assumed carpentry and leatherworking, but I can't find any such guilds in Ul'dah.

Theyre just too normal. What were getting in XI and XIV are all slight human variations and I want races like the Ronso, Bangaa, Burmecians ... stuff like that
