Final Fantasy XV gameplay @ PAX West

I watched FFXV KG and I still don't understand why Luna didn't meet
Noctis at insomnia
and why King Regis sent him to "meet" luna and later on find out he was trolled by his dad.
Also , if the ring was meant to be given to Noctis why didn't Regis give it to him?

I need a layman version of the story so far.

Regis sent Noctis out of Insomnia to prevent him from being killed/captured by Niflheim. If Noctis was present during the invasions, he would've suffered the same fate as Regis.

How does XP sharing work?

Noticed that all 4 party members were displayed as level 17 in the PAX panel thingy, but if its shared surely there's no need to display the levels of all 4 of them, just Noctis? Unless we can switch them out at some point?

We've seen a few points where only some party members are present.

Also, I dunno how EXP is distributed if one of the characters is dead after the battle ends (ie. requires a Phoenix Down).

Really weird to see the press reception to the game swing around so quickly. Feel like most outlets thought the game would be shite just a couple of months ago, and now the zeitgeist around it is 'its surprisingly good'

edit: of course, forgot that you could finish battles without all members being up and running

Do you have to use potions and spells between battles to refill hp like Bravely Default (most recent JRPG I played) or does it go to max automatically?

Sorry for the question barrage btw :P

Mmhh.. Not sure about that. I don't recall any overwhelmingly negative impressions from the press, at any point during development.

Refining combat, and stabilizing frame rate and image quality can do wonders.

And as for the second question,
Regis still had to try and protect Insomnia so he kept for the Ring for the potential of a sneak attack. Once it was clear he lost, he gave it to Luna for Noctis.

Maybe I was just clouded by the ingrained FF-hate on VideogamerUK and the way the threads on here kept going :P

Even Alice who can't stand FF games on VGUK is looking forward to it btw having been put on coverage for the last few events. Wonder how many non-FF fans the game will appeal to with the new structure, and how many FF fans will dislike the game because of it.

Downloaded the Platinum demo btw, about to try it out

Don't expect much out of Platinum Demo. There's only one meaningful encounter in the game, and there are hidden weapons that most people missed out on that add a lot.

I didn't even know Gratia Mundi was a fake name. Wow.

I take full credit for making it a thing on GAF.

Partial credit to Falk.

It's not the press that's swinging. It's the fans. And you're downloading one of the main reasons why.

Why the fuck do we have "fan names" for tracks? This is so dumb.

Because Nomura's Latin Name Generator commands us to have equally stupid fan names.

tbh, I'm excited to know what the official name is just to see those people's reactions. Gratia Mundi can be searched and found on iTunes, ffs.

all of those previews saying "surprising" lmao... i thought it was just many on here that were down on it. clearly not!

glad to see it's shaping up ok so far though.

There's a difference between "it's suprisingly good" when you're referring to a game still in the process of being refined and "it's surprisingly good" for a final release build of a game. Most of the reviews still cite jankiness and competing game design, which are opportunities... until the game launches. Then they're cons.

It's allowed to be a little bit of a mess until November 29th.

Surprisingly good =/= surprised THAT it's good.

The blind hate is still just with the fans, but nobody really had access to a clear picture of anything until recently. Those are the "surprising" responses.

Glad Jason still considers Cindy's design horribad. It definitely is, in context with the character and the world tone.

The fact that Cindy is not a very prominent character also makes it worse than if she was, because she has no fall back to prove she is empowered or owns her look. She's just there for the camera to pan around suggestively while the vehicle gets fixed

Maybe they change up her outfit
post-timeskip.

I'd also add the demo doesn't explain the depth of the combat system. This article really made me aware of the cool things you can do with weapon switching.
Yeah. I played PD months after it released so I had a relatively good impression on it after looking through and reading everything. I only had one long session but there was a lot of nuance that allowed me to do a lot of different things that are otherwise hidden.

You figure stuff like this out after playing a game for a few hours. A basic tutorial would have helped too lol.

Just curious, weren't you upset that Aranea had pants now over her Versus design? What about that then?

Because Aranea is a capable badass villain doesn't have the camera panning suggestively over her lady parts with the guys oogling at her in game, or have embarrassing car DLC or 'promotion' in the throwaway VR mode.

The way Cindy's design is objectified is on a different level entirely than just having a sexualized design, and that rubs me the wrong way. I don't generally have issues with sexualization or sexy designs, as long as it is portrayed in a certain manner and isn't constant or defines the character herself.

All we've seen of Cindy is her bending over, and that's a problem.

The fact that Tifa is my favorite FF character of all time should speak most clearly on how i see this kind of thing

U must really hate a lot of anime then, bc this shit happens all the time

O man...o man o man.. not again(in my Drake voice)

Anybody else feel like Noctis special skill will be severely under leveled compared to everyone else's like I hate fishing in games lol but prompto taking pictures gladio gets it by just walking and ignis cooking is vital

It's too bad they can't insert some free dlc for clothes changes for characters like Witcher 3 did. Of course, SE would probably charge for such a thing.

Does the Platinum demo unlock anything for the full game?

A summon that you must name "Stella".

Well, you can change the outfits of the same amount of NPCs as Witcher 3. :P

You start with a variation of the regular outfit for the main party, as well as two variations of a casual outfit. Maybe there are more to unlock.

There's a cool as shit suit as DLC for one of the expensive editions as well.

They are giving away some of the DLC with every preorder. And there are different outfits that come with the game. What the are you going off about?

Cloud costume for Noctis when you pre-order FFVII-R, please. Also, Balthier costume for Gladio/Ignis when you buy XII TZA.

Lol! I named my Carbuncle like that!

The are more summons in the game/universe that weren't included in the book. You can see Raiden/Odin in the Amano artwork for the game, so I guess they will appear as a boss fight or regular enemy.

Ah, those would just be the most critical ones then. I do hope that ends up being the case though I'm not completely sure that we should interpret the Amano art as being confirmation or not.

I'm talking about how for Witcher 3 there was DLC that offered alternative looks for characters like Yennifer and Ciri.

Yeah, but Witcher 3 you play solo, if you compare Geralt to Noctis in that way, then there's also three characters you can't control that you can change outfits in FFXV, and with more than one option :P

I get that you mean something like changing Cidney, Luna and Cor, for example, but as far as numbers go, FFXV is not lacking on that particular aspect.

Is that supposed to be a rebuttal? I'm not sure what bringing up anime has to do with this game in general from a basic stand point, or what we are talking about.

Considering the kind of audience SE are attempting to grab, and tone they are attempting to go with for this game, Cindy's design and part of the game absolutely doesn't fit from what we've seen of her so far.

I mean...I don't like a lot of anime and Cindy is a shit design.

Even if I DID like a lot of anime, that doesn't mean that I would have to like the sexualization and stupid character designs, it just means it's something I tolerate to get through something I enjoy.

Like I will with FF15 and Cindy.

This is such a silly argument for a legitimate gripe.

Mechanics don't often wear booty shorts and tops to show off their breasts.

It's cool if you like her, but come on, man.

Didn't mean to say that they were since the customization for the guys is a great feature. Even better if they have you able to dress them as characters from other FF games or something (Maybe even the original outfit he was wearing in Versus), but just what's there is nice.

Just saying it would be nice for non-party characters to have some kind of feature like that too is all. My first thought with Luna would be Stella's outfits, but that may not be such a great idea to stir that up anymore.

I do hope that customization continues with
Older Noctis (are we spoiling this just in case?). I want to face down the gods in extremely basic clothes.
