Final Fantasy XV has a wait mode (turn based implementation of the combat system)

Is there a way to implement a pause system in a game that doesn't make the game take longer?
Right, the whole hybrid thing is weird and it seems to lower(or stop? can't tell over the talking) the music. I digress though.

I'll probably play on normal until it gets too hard for me to care lol. I so want to avoid grinding.

Understandable. Sometimes it's nice to enjoy the story without getting drained out from the difficulty.

I'm like that with Metal Gear. Despite being an avid fan, I suck at stealth, so I usually play on easy. And when I get caught by an enemy, I usually run away or attack 'em, lol.

As for XV, I'm gonna try not switching to easy, but I might . . . Struggled a bit with Iron Giant in the Platinum Demo.

I was already there Day One for this game, but this just confirms it even more for me. I didn't mind the combat system in the Platinum Demo, but it's nice to have options. It reminds me of Dragon Age: Inquisition's combat system.

Good job Tabata-san & Square Enix.

Honestly speaking I wouldn't call it a turn-based implementation. That's kinda misleading.

Yea this is real time with pause, not turn based. It looks like a last minute addition rather actually something that the game was designed around since it looks like it breaks the game balance.

This company PEGI is moving weight.

This game has all sorts of BS injected into its weird mechanics.Including freaking VR...

Everything and anything but actual character switching which we've come to expect from every FF game.

Its such a disappointing omission from this game, especially in light of this news.

FFXIII didn't have wait mode, it had an option to slow down the fight by slowing the ATB charge rate for you and your enemies.

I wouldn't call the wait mode a turn based mode, that pretty much changes the gameplay, strategy and requires a different combat engine altogether. It is most likely a slow mode with longer intervals between attacks.

I wish they didn't do a coloration of the screen when in wait mode.

Would be great to just freeze the game to gawk during combat.

Lets be embarrassed together.

As someone who finds action combat RPGs with party-members too stressful (because I feel like I have to babysit them and can nothing do about the stupid AI), Wait Mode put this game finally back on my map, where it was right after the very first teaser in 2006.

You can't imagine how happy it makes me. And it's completely optional, too.

I wonder if this is what we can expect from FF7:R in terms of options or if they're going to do something different. I remember they were trying to beat around the bush when asked about battle systems and active/turn based stuff.

I really hope they have something similar planned for FF7:R.

This is cool, I'm glad they are adding this option. I do hope that you can make it so the music stays the same volume. That is the only nitpick I have.

Ugh, that sounds terrible (not turn-based being terrible, because I love turn-base), but the fact that they won't make up their minds as to what this game is.

Is it a fast-paced, KH-ish action game? Is it a action jRPG a la Tales of XYZ, or is it a turn-based? Is it a third-person game, or is it first-person VR?

You can't make it all of these things at once.

Wait mode, ability to pick skills for other characters, whaaaat? Just when I was coming to terms with the battle system not being my cup of tea, they go and give me options.

You're a madman, Tabata.
