What if like

IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku say FFXV has unremarkable music.

what will happen to falk?

Schreier has posted here dozens of times and knows it would remove Falk's soul to call the music unremarkable. I don't think Schreier is a mega-villain so I think he would not call the music unremarkable.

Er...what determines when I can manually drive the Regalia?

For the past like, 2-3 hours "Manual" has been grayed out and I can't select it at all. The only option I can do is "Auto" and let Ignis drive.

Pretty sure Jason's review will just be "holy shit the dungeons" and that's it.

holy shit
holy shit
I strongly suggest anyone who's beaten the game to check out this Reddit thread

Should you play it?
"holy shit"

I found it for 45€ instead of the usual 70 so even if I hate it, which I expect fully, I'll probably make some money reselling it. Thanks Tabata.

(Because this is the internet) I'm actually fine, a job's a job, and opinion's an opinion. Been reacting for the entertainment value.

I'm off to the Malaysia launch event to talk about the
unremarkable
music.

Like I said, I'll find a way to keep you guys posted if/when I hear about stream details.

Have fun, yo.

I haven't heard many FFXV tracks, but I have to say I think while Shimomura is highly regarded, she does have a different style than what FF fans are used to, namely Uematsu's style. Plus music is such a subjective matter. I personally love FFXII's OST and apparently GAF don't like it that much. And I also find some of GAF's favorite OSTs thoroughly mediocre. Maybe the "unremarkable" comment is coming from some one who had a specific expectation for FFXV tracks and in the end the game failed to meet it. Fortunately, the OST is easily accessible on YouTube so everyone can form their own opinion on it without spending a penny.

Be careful.

Music isn't as good as most FF games I played. Only a few memorable tracks. Listening to the XIII ost in the mp3 player and in general has made me appreciate that more. Also this OST doesn't hold a candle to X or even IV

FFXII's music is woefully underrated. I love how Sakimoto works his many themes throughout the score. I'm hoping that the remaster will change people's minds.

Can't listen right now, so I want to know, in what way does Crown update change those tracks? Subtle tweaks or massive overhauls?

Yeah exactly, and from what I heard, FFXV is doing the same which I'm looking forward to. But like I said, I can totally understand if someone is not impressed by FFXII's OST.

I think I should add that FF OSTs have such a huge legacy that good is not enough. People are expecting the best soundtrack of the year, and one of the best in the generation. I personally would be disappointed if the soundtrack is merely good.

Interesting perspective -- what I've heard of XV seems a nice middle ground between the simple, theme-heavy classic Uematsu tracks and the symphonically denser (but typically less catchy) work of Sakimoto or Hamauzu.

Apocalypsis Noctis is still my favorite song from the OST. It's just so powerful and melodic to me. It also plays during the Astral battles which are visually ridiculous. When I heard it at the theater after Kingsglaive I immediately felt in love.

I really like the atmospheric tracks. Wandering around in that game is just perfect musically. I'm decidedly more mixed on everything else, but there's quality in there, too.

You can drive manual at night as well.

So far after about 10-12 hours of playing it myself I was very surprised to see how negative some people were about the game. I'm not saying the game is free of faults, but I'm really enjoying myself so far. Going on hunts, taking in the environment, just finding shit out while adventuring. Some stuff that is way better than anything I'm using. It's a lot of fun.

To me, the one thing the game does really well that I didn't expect is the whole road trip, comradery aspect. From the quick animations when you rest, to the silly stuff they say, reminds me of hanging with my friends when we were younger.

Even the way the car is mostly stuck on rails essentially, forcing you to take in the environment around you. A normal drive to a destination might turn into, holy shit I think I can see something cool off in the horizon...yo pull over man let's check this shit out! It leads to a very strong sense of exploration and adventure, and it's the one thing I never expected out of FF15.

In case anybody missed it, I made a quick non spoilery vid of my impressions, and will have a review of it later this week on my site. Really good time so far, and worth sinking some time into.

It's a different approach, for sure but one I feel was needed with the way the game was structured (and the lack of battle music aside from bosses). And the sound quality was dreadfully low in the game itself. They're redoing the score with live instrumentation for the remaster and I'm betting that'll change a lot of people's minds.
