I'm so nervous for the review scores that I'm just gonna ask my friend to check for me. At this point I'm expecting an 84. Sigh. From what I've noticed, they've made a shitload of improvements just in the last few months. They should have delayed the game another 3-6 weeks to make a ton of improvements so that reviewers would have been able to witness it. But it's too late now unless there are some kind reviewers who will keep this stuff in mind. But then again, the only reviewers who would bother to do that are reviewers who liked the game.

No way that high, its too polarising and a lot of realistic opinions (not ott hyperbole) state various issues. 70 MC is more realistic. Which still puts it above average before fanboys go mental.

Then again, a couple weeks ago I highly doubted anything less than a 90 but here we are
I just want a mainline Final Fantasy to hit a fucking 90+ MC average again, man. It's been 10 years since that's happened.
If it doesn't get better than XIII's 83, people are going to lose their shit.

People will lose their shit whatever happens. I hope I'm wrong but from what I have read in various places just as many people dislike it as like it, and reading between the lines of people who 'omfg its super awesome' after 1 hour with the game and 'its shit' realistically there are lots of issues people have with it which would affect the score. We shall see and i am happy to be wrong. For the record I really enjoyed 13.
to be fair, FF13's scores had a lot of leniency to them because of the hype of a new FF since FF12, and it was largely before the collapse of the brand with the resulting trilogy and 14 1.0.
They were artificially inflated is what i mean because of hype and a want for the game to be good by those reviewing it, similar to Bioshock infinite
FF15 getting an 80 in this day and age would represent much more than FF13 getting an 83 then

I find it hard to tell how much to take GAF impressions to heart. There are some games that got good reviews, and I enjoy, but the GAF thread is full of debbie downers.

It is smaller apparently. 9.3 GB without patch 1.01 8GB with.
Adds a lot of cool stuff though, so i think its worth it.

Also GAF is too full of over excitable people. Hyoerbole levels are real. Better off not basing purchases on threads here. Like any enthusiast site, you have a few people who can look at things from a realistic perspective but mainly its people going batshit crazy over their favourite things and hating anyone who disagrees.

What an insane launch this is. With any game this long in development people are going to find different value in the product and have very different impressions. Try not to get too invested in other peoples opinions, they may find value you do not or they may not value what you do. Remember that's always fine. There will be many differing opnions on this game, that is a normal and wonderful thing. Try not to take it to heart too much.
In other words stay out of the review thread, haha.
Note: Mine is an import copy from the UK but the day one DLC (the weapon) redeemed fine on my AU account. In case anyone is interested

Writing has been on the wall for an awful lot of time now. I just expect some fun rpg with a really shitty story and overall a fucking waste of potential, but fun to play nonetheless.

I'm in mainly for the bro road trip, which I expect to be about the only thing they didn't fuck up as far as characters are concerned.

The road trip aspect is really good. In fact it makes me even more sad that the JP artwork wasnt the reversible cover. It is 100% appropriate for the game and has amano's full logo instead of the bullshit we got in NA and EU.

Story complete, 39 side quests, 15 hunts, continued playing optional content afterwards like gathering parts for the Regalia, playing through optional dungeons.
Overall I don't think it's a very good game. It's going to be polarizing. There is so much I didn't like, however I kept playing. Maybe because I played through every FF mainline game and some of the sequels.
It seems like SE cared more about merchandise, media- and product tie-ins and monetizing the FF brand than the game itself. I absolutely hated the real world product quests. I don't want to see that shit in a big budget fantasy RPG.
There isn't much story and it's told in a such a weird disjointed way. Important events happen off screen to get people to buy the season pass.
The battle system is too chaotic for me. The controls combined with the camera drag it down. Someone posted about enemies lacking animations to give the player a hint when to to block (and parry) and I have to agree.
Then there are certain small things that make the game worse than it could be. You can only accept one hunt at a time and you always have to return to the npc that gave you the hunt before accepting another.
The side quests are very boring and can be compared to MMO rpgs.
The technical side: The Xbox version is one of the blurriest games I've ever seen on that console. The performance in bigger towns/cities is abysmal. The loading times are very long, there are even loading screens when driving in the Regalia in the open world. These don't happen very often though.
The music is incredible and it's the best part of the game.

You'd be surprised how a lack of plot for maybe most of the game will do to upset people. But there are other good aspects of the game. But is it enough?
12 hours in and I'll be utterly amazed if it reviews as poorly as some of you hope.
As a non FF, non JRPG fan it's a solid low to mid 80's game.

Fallout 4 got rave reviews on hype alone to be honest. It's a pretty healthy and exciting franchise and I don't think FF is like that in the West anymore. The fact that Fallout 4 got such a high score amidst it's plethora of glitches and problems is an amazing and undeserved feat. I was just as hyped for that as I am for FFXV and was shocked it did so well. I also found myself never wanting to play the game again after the first playthrough so I'm hoping the same thing won't happen with this game.
FFXV has to do a lot more to do as well as Fallout 4 I think as disappointing as that is. Can't say anything on DA:I since I've played very little of it.

Going by impressions, there's less story content than the games you've compared. Quality on the other hand, can't say for sure until I play it.
Whoa I just found a costume. It's a weird one that you wear in the story but for like 10 minutes. I'm post game so this is pretty cool.

Yeah, I'm starting to feel like this is the case. Honestly reaching a point of ridiculousness.
This game will either be labeled as unplayable trash or the Dark Souls of Final Fantasies.
the game is good and the combat is fun
My best suggestion is to stay off the boards for a week while you play any new game. Sometimes people really bum me out on here.
