• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Finally bought a PS4. Recommend me some PS4-only games, please!

Have you played The Binding Of Isaac: Rebirth yet OP? I know it's not PS4 only, but it is so good. Definitely worth consideration. I have it on PC as well.

Played the original on PC and Rebirth on Vita and PS4. Both are excellent. But I prefer the overall feel of Spelunky more. The amount of items and secrets in Isaac are too much for me haha.

Towerfall is the most fun couch co op in ages. Seriously. So good.

Otherwise I'm interested in this thread as well. Awesome indies that I might 've missed. I still need to play Resogun, for instance.

Is Towerfall good as a single player game?

Games I've enjoyed:

- Driveclub
- Infamous
- GTA V
- Destiny
- FC4

Recently got hooked on Destiny. I'm addicted.

I got really bored with Far Cry 3 on PC. So I don't know if I'll ever play FC4. And I'll wait to see how GTA turns out on PC. If it's a garbage port, then I'll just go with PS4.

1. Samurai Warriors 4 - Release your stress in this 1080p/60fps colorful and content-filled action fest. This game is also available on PS3 and Vita with inferior visuals.

2. Resogun - Pick-and-play goodness for the busy person. Beautiful particle effects at 60 fps. As a bonus, you'll get the downgraded PS3 version for free.

3. Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition - Local 1080p/60fps multiplayer Diablo is hard to beat. You can't get that on PC!

I think I've had my fill of of Diablo. Too Skinner-boxy for me. I played through it once and then just didn't want to play it again. Too mindless. My brain feels completely detached from the experience.

Legit stunned at how bad the reading comprehension is in this thread.
I always expect it to be bad, but this is like 1/10 people able to read.

It's weird considering my post wasn't even that long...
People really don't like to read.

Xrd.

It doesn't matter if you don't play fighting games. It's also on sale for $24 until today!

Why wouldn't it matter if I don't play fighting games? I'd just be throwing $24 away...

Unfinished Swan and Flower are absolute musts i fyou like "unique" game experiences

I will be playing both of those eventually. I appreciated the uniqueness of Journey even though I didn't really like it. I enjoy experimental stuff a lot.

Little Big Planet 3
Driveclub (especially now that they've added so much)
The Order: 1886 (next week!)
Killzone:Shadow Fall (Flawed game, but still really good!)
Infamous: Second Son (MUST HAVE!)

Puyo puyo Tetris and Driveclub are the only two I'd recommend

If only Puyo Puyo Tetris would get localized.

So many people recommending The Order when it's not even out.....GAF's obsession with this game is unreal.

Nope. Give it a try anyway, since you got it free with plus. It's severely lacking as a sp game, but the sp content will help prepare you for mp, which is incredible.

The game only supports local multiplayer, but my friend and I had a tonne of fun playing online via shareplay.

I don't recall if Injustice ever hit PC, but it's a game definitely worth picking up during a sale (which it hits quite frequently). I know you said fighting games aren't your thing, but mine weren't either until I played it; it was a gateway to MK for me. Excellent, lengthy story mode, and it always displays all your special moves on the pause screen, which really helped me get used to each of the characters. I think I picked it up for $8 on a flash sale? I wouldn't be surprised to see it hit that price again, and it's well worth it.

Transistor

Edit: If Transistor was Free on + then my B....but seriously give it a go If you haven't started yet, no need to build up a backlog while there is SO much still to come.

Bought it on PC before it was on PS+. And somehow I still haven't played it...
I keep telling myself I have to play Bastion first (which I also have on PC). But that plan isn't working since I can't seem to bring myself to play Bastion.

It's free on PS+, play it on PS4. It uses the controllers mic in a unique fashion.

Also, I think it might actually be BETTER to play Tranistor first. Bastion is the better game (widely considered, and IMO), although both games are fantastic.

No it's fine if the suggested games are also on other platforms. Just as long as they're not on PC, since if they were I'd rather play them there.

There's very little to recommend on the PS4 (so far) when you have a powerful gaming PC. Consider getting a Wii U for a totally different gaming experience.

Looking at this thread makes me realize how bad the PS4 game library is. Bloodborne is coming to save the day though.

Yeah...it's definitely lacking. For me, there are literally zero must-have games that are only on PS4 (as in not on any other platform, including other PS platforms). But Bloodborne will solve that problem. It's just crazy that it took so long for anything meaningful to come out. Bloodborne is coming 16 months after launch, which is not exactly a quick turnaround...but hopefully it will be worth it.

I have been thinking about getting a Wii U since Wind Waker HD (never played a Zelda game, that one seemed like the right place to start)...but I've never owned a Nintendo console. Just handhelds - GBA and DS. I no longer want to buy games at retail, and I really don't want to deal with the potential bullshit that comes with buying games digitally on Nintendo platforms. If they can get their shit together in that regard, I would immediately buy one. Also, if it was available directly from Amazon in the US, I would probably already have a Wii U. Still absurd that NoA hasn't made good with Amazon.

That's not true at all, the PS4 already has quite a library.

It's not that it doesn't have a good library. It's just you can get most of those games elsewhere. So if you have a decent PC, then it's hard to find something specifically for your PS4. But I knew that when I bought it. I have faith that eventually there will be enough SCE games to justify the purchase. There's still Rime, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and plenty of unannounced internal stuff, so eventually there will be enough PS4-only games to justify having a console. But right now, the list is pretty thin.

Touche...

I'm kinda biased toward a cyberpunk setting...

There's a game called Strike Suit Zero that looks pretty awesome...I'll let you know how that goes lol.

Edit: #$%@Ă· I really need to do my research first...

Little Big Planet 3....because it wasn't on PC already! And I don't feel like researching Towerfall and Mercenary Kings...

Seriously though I mean the Order could be really good and Bloodborne probably will be really good and those are coming out really soon.

I recommend Knack bought it yesterday, have been playing it with my girlfriend non-stop, the game is so hard and fun. $10 is clearly a good price for the game.

i've got every gaming console and a great PC (750+ games in steam) but spend probably 90% of my time on ps4. some games i'd recommend, and why

Destiny - its a fun shooter, its got flaws but its great for short bursts, gunplay, mindless PVP matches, and gaf has a strong community

TLOU - best game I ever played, you got it free with your console I think you said. Its the first game you should play imo

Diablo 3 - I have it on PC and PS4 and prefer the PS4 version, co-op play with friends and controller is just more fun for me

GTA5 - its coming to PC but who knows how good the port will be and DRM is something I really hate on PC. No regrets playing it on PS4, I'll probably buy the PC version on a $5 sale in a year or two by then people will have figured out all the crazy realistic mods and stuff

Final Fantasy 14 - you can buy PC and PS4 versions and play on the same server, really makes it fun and easy if you are into MMOs

Stuff like Dying Light, Transistor, Telltale games, etc are probably better on PC imo. I prefer multiplayer FPS games on PS4 because there are no cheaters/botters, except for Battlefield 4 which is fantastic on PC but a bit meh on consoles.

Not sure which platform I will prefer for Star wars Battlefront.

The PS4 is fantastic if you're like me and feel that being able to play Bloodborne and TLOU:R and other Sony exclusives as well as stuff like Wolfenstein: The New Order & lots of popular indie titles outweighs the benefits of buying a similarly priced gaming PC that may perform better and have mods but doesn't have the exclusives.

If I had already had a decent gaming PC, I would have gone with a Wii U, but I fully get feeling the need for Bloodborne. If it's not a shocking disappointment (and I see no reason to think it will be, thus the "shocking") it's going to be my GOTY or GOTG, so, yeah.

Also, thanks to this thread I'm probably going to pick up Puyopuyo Tetris. Thanks thread!

A lot of people overlook Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition.

It's a good, addictive twin stick shooter for $15.

First couple of playthroughs on different difficulties were a blast.

I now go back to it occasionally to do co-op with friends.

People need to stop recommending drive club. Its not a good game and your giving very poor advice (especially to someone who said they don't want racing games).

I think I'll be pretty happy with the PS4 eventually. There's still Sony-published stuff like Rime, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, Wattam, What Remains of Edith Finch, etc. that's weird and different and won't be on PC. So eventually Bloodborne won't have to justify my console purchase by itself.

Yep. Also, I wonder if any of the people who were previously recommending The Order (before it was released) will continue to recommend it...

This year there's tons coming down the pipe that's playstation exclusive. Without factoring in multiplats, for PS4 i gotta get Persona 5, Rime, Bloodborne, FFX/X2 Remaster, UC4, Ratchet and Clank Remake, Teraway, Disgaea 5, and Deception 4 Plus...

its gonna be really hard to juggle everything including the mutliplats i wanna get

Fair point if they said they don't want racing games - but what makes Driveclub not a good game? I don't like racers all that much (perhaps making me unsuitable to answer), but I've loved my time with Driveclub. I find racing just has a great feel to it in the game.

inFamous Second Son, Killzone Shadow Fall (you can't get it really cheap in the current sale) and I'd say that's about it since you don't like racing games (Driveclub). The rest are TLoU, PS+ titles and multiplatforms.

I 100% recommend the Order 1886 (maybe once the price drops a bit)

I bought the game on Friday and platinumed it on Sunday. Personally I think the game was very harshly judged by critics. It's by no means perfect but it is a graphical powerhouse on PS4 with some of the best atmosphere I've ever experienced. I'm starting a second play-through tonight.

I play games not review scores.

Other than that:

  • P.T. is pant wettingly scary.
  • Knack is a lot of fun if you go in with low expectations.
  • InFamous: SS is a very good free roam game.
  • TLOU: Remastered is gaming perfection
  • Driveclub is a very good arcade racer with top notch graphics (and I normally hate driving games)
