Finished World 5-1 and I'm ready to Admit I was wrong about 3D World

I was LTTP with this game, and have just unlocked
the crown world
.

Holy shit! Having made a special effort to unlock everything as I've progressed...
I'm now longer sure that'll be plausible! These three stages are fucking ridiculous. Worst difficulty curve ever.

Still. Outrageous fun. My favourite Wii U game.

Oh, yes... It DEFINITIVELY ranks up near the end. Especially the last two levels (in different ways). They're a real challenge... Nothing awfully difficult to achieve with the right character, but truly unforgiving with some others.

I'd suggest you play the game to the end before making plans for the real 100% (by 100%, I mean getting all stamps).

Not only it's really long, but it's probably one of the hardest Mario to 100%...

I find it interesting that Marios on Wii U are taylored for everyone during the main game, but that at the end, they're really hardcore. Getting gold in all Mario U challenges is also a huge task.

Oh I have.

I finished the game casually a year ago, while the game was fresh. Finished as in
defeat Bowser
. Recently I've gone back to that same save file and I'm getting all 3 Green Stars and Print Stamps. Without giving away spoilers I'm not too far from 100% completion of the absolute entire game. I reckon I'll have it done by the time the weekend is finished.

Even though I understand where people are coming from I'll never truly agree with the "it gets better in world X" thing.
As soon as I entered Super Bell Hill and that jazzy ass tune kicked in, I knew I was in for a wild ride; I was hooked man, HOOKED!

It's ridiculously easy until World 4, and from there I started to really work for completion. Once I reached the final world (which I'm guessing isn't the actual final world) I'm having such a good time I don't want the game to end haha.
You think it's over 3 or 4 times before it actually is, and if you try for 100% you will want it to end

Piranha Creeper Creek After Dark, aka the 'Cosmic trolling' level. Can make a grown man cry.
Yeah that's the one, another one that made me tear my hair out was the spotlight 'n' spikes level

It took me ~70 hours to 100% 3D World. The final level with Toad will be something to look forward to.
I managed to get up the last set of steps without a Tanooki Suit once and still didn't manage to beat the level. Even with double Tanookis it took me like 20 tries but I got it last night (after probably 100 no powerup attempts last week). Then I missed the last star... Still, I have my Mario stamp and 380 green stars now so I'm happy to file it away and throw in Bayo 1.

Just finished it today and I really loved the entire game.

Now debating if I should go back and get every star, I also love the way Bowser looks in HD :)

My wife and I played it together and its the most fun we've had playing a game. Whilst it is easy it's just right for us, I'm horrible at platformers and she's rather good. We have all the stars/stamps up to stage
star-5

Probably going to trade my copy in that I got with my Wii-U honestly, lol. Really need to get my brother to at least attempt to play the game with me coop though first, that could be fun. The game looks good and is highly polished, but after playing a little I just didn't care for it. Even though I'm not sure whether I'll care for it, I think I'd rather play Sonic Lost World. *shrugs*

Super Mario 3D World is my favourite game on WiiU. They handled coop extremely well unlike previous Mario games (I am looking at you New Super Mario Bros Wii). That said, I would still prefer the next big Mario game to be more like Galaxy 2 which remains the king of platformers.

What other ways can you think of having a "difficulty" level in a platformer? I don't think it is feasible to have three different layouts for easy, normal and hard in each level.

Aren't several of the later levels in 3D World just harder remixes of earlier levels? Rather than split them out into separate levels, you could just have the player select Normal / Expert Remix at the beginning of the game.

I also really liked how NSMBU had the challenge mode where you'd unlock lots of fun situations which were harder than the main game.

Anyway, the lack of difficulty options was my main problem with SM3DW too. Felt like most of the game was a tutorial. I really wish more Nintendo games had difficulty options.

Not another 3D World Hype Thread. This game is good, nothing more nothing less. Not comparable to the other 3D Mario games, in my opinion......

I just said I changed my mind on it being boring and undeserving of a mainline Mario game. The verdict is still out on where it ranks to 3d Mario games (although I've already concluded its better than Sunshine, but that's just me).

ITT: people think they've beaten SM3DW after defeting Bowser, and without collecting all stars. Some also think they'll be able to 100% the post-Bowser game in a weekend.

Best of luck, people!

The only game I know of with a post-post-post end game.

It always baffles me that people think a mainline Mario has to be challenging for a "core"-gamer in the first few levels.

I think a lot of it has to do with people remembering games as a kid being more difficult and thinking that's not going to change as they get old and get more acclimated to playing video games.

I hate it when people shit on this game for not being like galaxy or blowing away all expectations. Its a fun game not the best Mario but it's still provides a good time not every game can be groundbreaking.

Anyway glad your having fun with it OP

this is the main Mario with more variety of them all, imho.
Galaxies are still on top in terms of "wow effect" for the art direction (enhpasize more in the first, with the Observatory and the story-line of the book) and for the gravity effect, but both Mario 3D Land, and especially 3D World, have better pure platforming gameplay and levels in terms of actual game design and variety
But after two of them, I'd welcome a Galaxy3 in '16 to close the Wii U lifecycle, of course.

I wanted to like this game so much but just... Ugh.

Why did they have lives in multiplayer mode? Why is there a timer? Why is run and grab still on the same button?

Rayman Origins/Legends showed how to do a multiplayer platformed properly.

So I quit this game several times through the first 4 worlds each time thinking this game was boring, easy and unworthy of a mainline Mario release. I decided since I downloaded it and paid 60$ I would give it one more shot, this time collecting every green star and stamp. That has been the difference for me. It is still too easy and collecting everything is simple, but there is a lot of diversity and creativity in this game. And after just finishing 5-1, my favorite level in the game up to this point (the beach one where you get the fabulous boomerang), I am ready to admit I was wrong about Mario 3D world. Excited to 100% it.

Yeah, the learning curvy is as smooth as butter, but once you get to the bonus worlds, it gets harder with each one. Crown world is INSANE. When you are ready for spoilers (it's a mario game so not such a big deal IMO) watch the completionist's review. I still haven't 100% this game, I doubt I ever will. Anyways Good Luck and man is this game fun.

It's such a joyful game I don't know how anyone could describe it as boring. It might be a little easy at the beginning but it is never boring.

Boring is definitely the word I'd use to describe my time with it. Maybe I need to get further in the game, but I just didn't find it engaging at all. Never really thought about the difficulty, maybe that's why I didn't care for it?

That, and the fact that (at least in 3D Land) the games have become way too generous about 1UPs. I think it's a bit too much when i effortlessly go through the game and end up with 200+ lives (even after the tougher end levels).
