Fire Emblem Awakening or Kid Icarus Uprising?

Since both are on sale and I can only afford one which one should I get? I'm completely torn since I really want both. Makes sense to get KI as it's the cheaper one but missing out on the FE:A discount might delay me from getting the game in the future.

I was a Borderlands 2 addict so the weapon drop system in KI intrigues me. Is the ground combat in the game enjoyable as well (assuming the controls aren't a factor)?

On the other hand the character interactions in FE:A are supposedly very well-written and I'm a fan of games that feature that. Also, which game is more replayable?

There's a demo for FE:A on the eShop. It's a fantastic game and you should get a good idea that you need to own it once you play the demo.

Fire Emblem Awakening is a great game, but I have to vote Kid Icarus. KI: Uprising is one of the best games ever produced by Nintendo. It is pure non-stop fun.

You're going to get a lot of KI:U answers here and honestly you can't go wrong with either.

I strongly recommend FE:A. It surprised me and became one of my all time favorite games.

You really can't go wrong with either of them. I'd personally give Fire Emblem the slight edge, but it depends mostly on what kind of game you're looking for. Kid Icarus is an action-RPG with a kind of manic saturday morning cartoon vibe (well written and funny, too). Fire Emblem is a big, complex strategy RPG with a bazillion different character interactions and strategies to explore.

You can't go wrong with either.

Someone people have trouble with the KI:U controls, but I found them to be really easy to use and they didn't cause me any pain or anything weird like it did for some people.
FE:A was made more casual friendly with the casual mode, so it's super-easy to get into, too.

Both have extensive amounts of content in them!

Honestly go with which genre you think you'll like most. KI:U has a lot of spectacle in it, if you're looking for something like that.

Hard to say which one is more replayble as i have over 200h on both. You definitely need the dlc to make FE:A replayable and I'm not sure if online is still a thing for KI:U, but that game is replayable to the max even without an online comunity

FE:A is a much better game, and it's better value for money. Uprising is fantastic, but the controls are a (physical) pain.

Kid Icarus Uprising is better in my opinion, but they are both wildly different, and most importantly, awesome, games. You can't go wrong with either.

I had a good time with both, but if I had to pick just one it would be Fire Emblem. The controls for Kid Icarus made it hard for me to play for more than an hour, and you also can't really play it lying down.

Word of advise for ground combat: you don't have to use the stylus. The face buttons also work for aiming. It's not better than an actual right analog, but it's easier to deal with than the touch screen.

Kid Icarus Uprising is the best 3DS game. Go with that one.

Online is still active.

I've been having this debate in my head as well. I'm not huge into SRPGs so I'm leaning toward KI:R, but how necessary is the stand? Digital version obviously doesn't come with that.

What? No. No no no. Buttons are inaccurate compared to touch screen. You won't be able to play on harder difficulties that way.

I have never used the stand since I bought the game, but I also have a friend who prefers the stand because he finds it more comfortable. It depends on the person, really.

Kid Icarus Uprising is unique and pretty great. I love Fire Emblem but Awakening is my least favorite of the series. Just going by gameplay there, the stories and characters have always been boring to me. I enjoyed the Kid Icarus Uprising plot and characters though.

KI controls take some getting used to but the payoff is one of the best games Nintendo's made in years (and they've made a lot of good ones). I love FEA but my vote goes to Kid Icarus.

Fire Emblem is the best game on the system. I've logged over 200 hours and am nowhere close to exhausting what it has to offer. If you have any interest in turn-based strategy you shouldn't miss it.

The best way to describe Kid Icarus: Uprising is that it's the best Star Fox game. No, really. The current digital sale may also have some urgency to it as physical copies are much harder to find in the wild. It also has a lot of longevity thanks to the usual Sakurai indulgence in challenges, unlockables, and bonus modes, as well as a dynamically scalable difficulty that encourages you to replay chapters, but all of that depends on how much you enjoy the base gameplay. I found the aerial combat more polished than the game on the ground, which has a few control frustrations as you are getting used to the game (the problem isn't so much with the stylus but with moving/dashing accurately on the 3DS's slippery Circle Pad).

I suck at strategy games (and think they take way too long to play). Despite that, I did like FE:A, but between Fire Emblem and Kid Ic?

Kid Icarus Uprising was hands down the biggest surprise I've ever played ever.
Loved. Every. Minute.

Awakening is the safer suggestion as KI:U has a mileage may very based upon how you respond to it's controls. Control issues aside both are amazing games that I highly recommend you play.

Can't go wrong with either however I get hand cramps from longer sessions of KIU. I would suggest FE:A as your first pick. I feel it is a safer option and KI is quite cheap retail, that way if you get cramps like me and end up disliking the game you can take it back to the retailer.

It took me a while to get into KI but it is an excellent game and worth every cramp I get from it.

Do try the FEA demo on the eShop first though.

Oh man, though choice, I had to get both eventually but FE was what made me buy the 3DS. Also, I had more "instant" fun with FE, I had to get used to KI for a while and actually stopped playing it for some time (glad I got back to it though) but with FE I could barely turn off my 3DS.

I'm not sure if this counts as a valid opinion, seeing as I only played an hour of FE, but Kid Icarus is outstanding. Easily one of Nintendo's best in years. Too bad some can't overlook a few control issues; it really is an outstanding and robust game.

Kid Icarus is a great action game and was my favorite from 2012. Once you get used to the controls, it becomes an extremely well-designed game with spot-on voice acting added on top. I haven't played FE, but based on impressions I doubt you can go wrong with it either.

I'd say it depends on whether you want a strategy-based game or a more twitchy action-based game.

I've been having this debate in my head as well. I'm not huge into SRPGs so I'm leaning toward KI:R, but how necessary is the stand? Digital version obviously doesn't come with that.

I used it for 30 seconds before deciding I liked playing without it more. I do the thing with hooking my stylus-hand's pinky under the edge of the console.

I personally preferred Kid Icarus, but it's kind of a crap shoot as to whether or not you'll like the controls. They're controversial, to say the least.

FE:A is the safe pick, but if you're able to get into KI:U, it's pretty incredible. I hope one day you can pick up both games.

KI: U is the best game on the 3DS.

FE: A is an amazing game.

You're good to go with either one. Do keep in mind the controls for KI: U are a bit weird at first. Once you stick through with it though, you're in for a treat.

I personally prefer Uprising, but the controls seem to turn a lot of people off.

FE:A is probably the safer option if you're not sure.

Kid Icarus is more re playable and there is a sense of progression of your skill. Fire Emblem's re-playability is a lot of monotony. Get Kid Icarus.

I was in this same pickle 2 days ago.

I ended up getting Fire Emblem cause it seemed like the better choice for universal praise / my previous experience with the series and wanting to grab it ever since I got my 3DS but wasnt able to find a sale

....then 2 days later I got Kid Icarus too

Depends on what you want.
If you want a fast paced and very funny game with tons of replayability, get KI:U, my personal favorite 3DS game.
If you want a slow turn-based game, with some of the best written characters in gaming and tons of replayability get FE:A.
In both cases you can't go wrong.
And btw, if you use your brain and dedicate yourself for more than 30 mins, KI:Us controls will be a walk in the park. They aren't as cumbersome as some people think.

Kid Icarus is more re playable and there is a sense of progression of your skill. Fire Emblem's re-playability is a lot of monotony. Get Kid Icarus.

I will say that Kid Icarus has incredible, incredible replay value, with all of its weapons, crafting system, challenge walls, multiplayer, and especially the fantastic difficulty system.

Fire Emblem's replay is nothing to sneeze at, but I've been playing Kid Icarus since it's release and I've never been bored.

Don't assume the controls of KI:U will irk you. It does for some, but not others. They're designed to facilitate a higher level of play and the game is all the better for it. With traditional controls the game would have been pretty forgettable in terms of gameplay. If you like fighting games or games with a heavy focus on mechanics, you'll probably be well versed enough to manage the controls and appreciate why they exist.

Kid Icarus might be the best game on the system but FE:A is the safer choice as it is also exquisite but doesn't have the control issue some people had with KI. I personally had no trouble with the KI controls, but some do.

So for that reason alone, try FE:A.

KI:U by far. It takes serious lack of adaptability to new control schemes for the controls to be an issue.

Fire Emblem Awakening was the best game of 2013 so that.

Fire Emblem: Awakening. Easily one the best titles the 3DS has to offer.

Not to say KI:U is bad by any means just start with FE:A and work from there.

FE: A without a doubt. I wasn't into strategy games (this one is strategy RPG but you know what I mean) like this one or the Fire Emblem series in general but this game changed that for me completely.

It's pretty much a must buy for any 3DS owner. Even if you aren't a fan of the genre, get it anyway.

I literally just finished Kid Icarus Uprising and ordered Fire Emblem (Shadow Dragon, already got Awakening) 30 minutes ago. Hehe.

Both KI:U and Awakening are fantastic games with great art and rocking soundtracks.

If you're in the mood for a lighter, more humoristic action game, go with Kid Icarus. If you're looking for depth, strategy and epic war fights, go with Awakening.

And, well, do get both eventually =)

Awakening pros:

- The safer choice in that its controls aren't going to be an issue
- Most polished game in the series, with production values to match
- Waifus, if you're into that kind of shit
- Packed with content

Awakening cons:

- Core gameplay is ultimately available elsewhere (but other games in series are expensive as hell)
- One of the weaker games in the series in terms of overall map design (imo)

Kid Icarus pros:

- Completely built from the ground up for 3DS
- Unique in how it plays/not part of an established series
- Also really polished, with stupid amounts of content and multiplayer

Kid Icarus cons:

- Completely built from the ground up for 3DS - that means you may hate the controls (I loved them)
- Difficult to find at retail for MSRP
- This may be actually be a pro for it in this discussion because the $25 on eShop is the cheapest it may get for some time

Both games are totally awesome, though - you can't go wrong with either. If it were me, I'd say Kid Icarus simply because it's likely the cheapest it'll be for a while, because retail copies are getting more expensive.

If you can get over the controls, KI:U is one of the best games ever made. And is not only the SP, the loot system is surprisingly deep, which made PvP a blast.
