Fire Emblem Coming To 3DS

looks like FE8 on GBA was the last good looking FE game.

whatever, this won't get localized. will have to buy a japanese 3DS to play it, lol. thank you, nintendo.
Yes it will. The last game was the sequel/second half to a really shitty game. This is a brand new game and the 3DS needs games. More than the Wii does.

Graphics quality looks unacceptable.
How long do you expect to be playing with animations on?

I'm glad they're going back to hand drawn portraits after the bland DS versions, but I can't say I'm a fan of this particular character's design. Bleh. I wish they got the artist from PoR and RD to draw them instead.

Ugh, that site is getting hammered. Interesting character designs, though.

It's true that Mystery of the Emblem DS targets a very wide range of skill levels. However, the DS being a succeeded system means NOA is highly unlikely to continue to support it. NOA has limited translation resources and they've chosen to work on more profitable 3DS titles. It's all about the money.

There's a chance of this FE making it over because the 3DS is an actively supported system to NOA.
That's true. Oh well. Perhaps this new title will be just as open to both casual players and SRPG/Fire Emblem fans.

Given that, aesthetically, this is in the vein of PoR/RD, I can see it probably being brought over here. Or considered for localization at worst.

The GBA sprites have the coolest attack animations, but the latter two SNES games have the best battle animations by far.
Absolutely agree. Love the SFC animations a lot.

I was hoping they'd bring back the GBA spriteswork or a more detailed version of it. Those animations were godly.

This, not so much.

Gosh... I remember when sharing awesome sprite gifs was what the internet was all about. Brings me back.

But I think my tears are nearly dry, I'm ready to accept this game. At least there are lovely character portraits, nice map sprites, and battle animations that are an effort to duplicate the kind of dramatic motions of the GBA games far above anything the GC/Wii games tried to do.

And is there a more detailed description anywhere on how all this duel attacking/co-op battling works exactly?

the new artwork does nothing for me, the more neutral GBA/GC/Wii gen was much better, but at least they got back to unaltered portraits.

not a shitty game to me, i would've bought it day one.

I'm fine with the lord's design as far as this game goes, buut...... can't they take Smash Bros into consideration at this point? I mean, another sword-wielding blue haired dude? Really? Besides that FE is already swarming with them, it means someone's getting replaced in the next SSB roster.

Goodbye Ike, may your moveset live on in a sworded Ganondorf...

It's just slightly too mainstream anime for me

Path of Radiance's art will always be my favorite

Yeah that main female character looks terrible.

Wish they'd put a little bit of graphical juice into the backgrounds - bump map some terrain and water; you know the gameplay and the mechanics are going to be rock solid already.

Dito. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn´s art looks better. This one´s looks good, too, but, yeah, "too mainstream" is exactly what I´d have called it as well. Dunno...looks a little bit like Eureka Seven, doesn´t it.

Localize this Nintendo of Europe

I have faith :D
How do we mod our 3DS systems so we can play all of the great Japanese hardcore titles that Reggie thinks we don't fucking want that Europe will localize regardless?

I was never fond of how the zoomed out, tiny characters on screen battles in the GC/Wii versions (after playing the godly GBA versions). This however, looks very acceptable to me. Localize it (damn region lock)!

Most anime art looks identical to me, so whatever. Pigtails does look a bit ridiculous though. Anyway, the game will play great, so I'm happy.

I dunno, I just genuinely do not expect good 3D from Intelligent Systems.

I still love their games, anyway, but they could really use a partner if they keep making 3D games.

Hey, FE3 was great. The DS version wasn't even "half of a game", either. FE1 and 3 were never two halves of one game.

I kind of preferred the artwork for the DS games, even though Masamune Shirow's shading looks weird sometimes.

i REALLY hope this gets localized, it will be the first FE game i will buy and play since i missed the boat on the others and now they are like 100 bucks for used copies on ebay :(((((((((

This one looks like IS is finally trying again after making two rather bored remakes.

I absolutely cannot wait. There will be blood if NoA/NoE decides not to release it. (I'm pretty certain they will localize it, however)

Those character designs. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Oh god, I'm afraid what they might do to the next Advance Wars after Days of Ruin's kickass character designs. They are still an upgrade after Masamune Shirow's shit in Shadow Dragon. I take it back, his designs were better than this.

shirow is much better than this generic style. IS didn't use his original art for the DS games, for whatever reason.

Eh the character designs in FE have never been that good, however I do like that these ones are a bit more detailed than prior installments.

That's crazy talk.

I'm impressed. Now give me Advance Wars and I'll be satisfied.

Seriously, what a great lineup of games the 3DS has. Hell I'm pretty satisfied with the library I have now.

That girl is moé as fuck, damn.

EDIT: The character designs in Fire Emblem games have always been mainstream animé shit, what the fuck are you guys talking about?

Probably my second favorite announcement from the whole conference, only behind MH4. I will buy this day 1 if this releases in America.

It's amusing how the 3DS's prospects improved so much in the past few hours. Sure a lot of games have not been confirmed for release outside Japan, but it doing well in Japan will instill more confidence in Japanese developers.

Yeah that's what I'm getting at. Not that I dislike the Fire Emblem character designs because there are some good ones in there, but overall I think they are generally pretty average.

lol, Alberto. The only FE-girl that I never found to be hot in the slightest. You can have her :P

You thought Meg was hot?

Anyway, I agree that PoR/RD had superior character designs based on what we're seeing, but this is still better than what we got with the DS. I'm sure some unique and cool people will pop up, hopefully the designs will be just as good.

But they've always been too mainstream!
Spiky-haired heroes, rainbow-colour-hairs. All the clichés in mainstream animé are there. If anything, the new girl being moé is totally not mainstream.
