Fire Emblem DS - Official site opens (and videos!)

:lol

I remember that clusterfuck of a thread Cow Mengde posted months ago! :lol

Are Marth and Roy in this game?

Marth is the main hero, you could say, of this FE1 remake. Roy lives in a completely different land/era, and is the star of FE6 (never released here). His dad, Eliwood, is the star of FE7 (first one released here, as just FE). Roy shows up as a kid in FE7's ending, however.

The only game you'd ever find Roy AND Marth together, is a SSB.

I didn't know Senri Kita was a woman :o Her and Yuka Tsujiyoko make me love the console FE games the best :D

Speaking of Yuka Tsujiyoko, Yoshito Hirano is probably going to remix her Fire Emblem 1 score for the DS remake. He's hit and miss with me.

Mejilan: I was kidding. :) That was a common question when FE 7 hit the scene years back (on Gamefaqs anyway).

Oh, my. I thought he was joking XD

Hmm...I googled him, and his credits are usually the ones she's credited for as well. Do they collaborate in the soundtracks together?

He's solo'd Advance Wars: Days of Ruin, the Path of Radiance overhead map battles, and the 3D Fire Emblem cutscenes.

Yuka supervises nowadays. Her and Hirano made a cool compositional pair for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

So wait...who should I be grateful to for all the awesomeness in the Radiant Dawn soundtrack? Well, to be more exact, the battle themes!

Dawn Brigade, March, On Glory's Wings (One of the best!), To War, Embodiment of Change, Battle of Pride, Stalking Menace, Beauty is a Mad Mistress! Who should I thank most for these orgasm-to-ear tracks? :D

Thank the two guys who wrote the music for Super Paper Mario. I don't remember their names.

Yuka Tsujiyoko's last full game contribution was FE 6, after she became a part timer post Paper Mario 64. FE 7 end credits tells me she worked on that game pretty heavily (or almost completely), but Wiki is telling me something else on that.

:(

Credits sure don't explain themselves well =/ The names usually never clarify what it actually means :P

Well in any case, you're reasons for loving Fire Emblem are almost mine as well.

You can listen to some Yuka Tsujiyoko songs from Brawl and see how her style differs from the songs of Radiant Dawn. If you have Path of Radiance, she composed the opening song for that game and it was nice. :)

Considering Gaiden is the only FE game I've never tracked down and beat I hope they fast track a remake for that.

SenseiJinx said:
But remake it with regular Fire Emblem gameplay, or retain Gaiden's unique -- and controversial -- system?

Don't care, either way is fine by me. I've never played it.

I'm not an hardcore FE fan, so i'm asking you guys for confirmation:

Am i the only one who thinks that the characters on the map and/or battle were better on the GBA versions?
Also, i don't like the artworks. =(

Still day-one buy for me... but i don't know about the characters sprites and all that stuff.

I'm glad it was a remake of the first game. It will be a great introduction to the genre and to the series of newcomers.

Yuka Tsujiyoko retired after Paper Mario, hence why she is only in a supervising role with the new composers of the series. I think they have retained her to be as a mentor so that the music retains its overall quality, and I'd say it has if FE9/10's soundtrack is any indication.

There used to be an AWESOME interview that some website famous for interviews with music composers did with her, and I wish that site was still around. I don't know, maybe some other old-timers know what I'm refering to and can dig it up via the wayback machine...

Aww, the site is gone? :(

Thanks for the reminder. She retired then came back, part time. Fire Emblem 6 was her work. After that, you've pretty much got the story written.

Yeah even though she was already retired, she was personally asked back by Nintendo to compose for FE6. She's only been supervising since, and that is a really, really small role (basically a quality check on the composers' songs). I think she did contribute to the FE theme song for Brawl but that is just a guess on my part (really every new incarnation of that song is credited to her anyway even if it's partially remixed by others).

UPDATE: found the interview! woot!

Great read even though it's like 7 years old.

Ever since we had the first screenshots of Fire Emblem DS, this was the first thing that came to mind. Horrible pre-rendered look of the sprites. Before we know it, we'll be nearing PoR/RD level of ugliness. :lol

But uh, still looking forward to the game. Who wouldn't be?

I remember that the first pics of FE:PoD GCN is quite ugly (for others, not for me). And seeing the actual screen of FE:PoD (not bad, but not good) and FE:RD (much better than PoD), I have hopes for Int. Sys. Having said that, the fact that this game is going out soon might indicate no changes on the graphics.

Personally, having played my first FE under SNES (FE3), I have never had any problem with FE graphics. Same thing happen with Advance Wars DS and AW:DoR graphics.

Map sprites are better, but the animations are pre-rendered rather than sprited. They're not that bad though, but the sprites are what made handheld FE great. Character portraits aren't that bad either, considering they're CG.

the battle animations are very smooth, although not as charismatic and loveable as the sprite ones from the GBA games. they are also a HUGE stepup from the terrible, horrible console animations.

What i don't get about the graphics is... there seem to be a thick black line around characters sprites on the map.
It's fugly and i don't remember it that way on the GBA.

Also, i will play this with Animations: ON, so i'm not very happy that the animations on the GBA were almost superior.

Radiant Dawn isn't Path of Radiance. The stronger spells in Radiant Dawn easily surpass any animation from any other FE.

to prep myself, what's the best FE to get for gba?

Easily the first one to be localized out of Japan, FE7. It's just known as Fire Emblem around here. I think most people agree that it's a lot better than Sacred Stones.

I prefer Sacred Stones. It's a bit more open. You can grind if you want.

It ruins the challenge though, because it lets you level up all of your characters rather than be forced to choose between them. For example, you get Nino in FE7 and are forced to choose - "do I level them up this late in the game because they're a good unit" or "do I abandon her because it's too much of a pain in the ass?"

Bonus EXP like Radiant Dawn is better.

What are you talking about?

SS is very dumbed down by making the majority of your man's ultra bad asses.

I never died once on Hard mode and I didn't level a drop.

SS might be the best game to start with as it is a lot easier than FE.

Still a player's problem and not the game's. Options are good. You're not forced to grind at all.
Personally i didn't grind at all and i had the same fun as with other FE games.

problem solved - i guess i'll just get both of them :lol

The problem here is that you are directly comparing Sacred Stones' gameplay to the other FE games. That's like comparing apples and oranges. Sacred Stones is pretty much a different style of gameplay that allows for grinding. You're NOT supposed to gauge Sacred Stones' quality on challenge alone. It's supposed to be a fun adventure-like SRPG with the ability to do things like explore dungeons and such. Its a spirtual successor to FE Gaiden which had the same gameplay (but oddly enough was a much bigger game and had two distinct routes that merged in the end). I'd also throw in TearRing Saga among these two games even though it wasn't made by Nintendo (but it was made by the creator of Fire Emblem).

I mean if you are gonna use grinding as the factor for why Sacred Stones sucks, then you'd call almost every other non-FE SRPG crap because a lot of them (from the FFT series to Shining Force) allow you to grind.

Joke post?

Nope, serious. But then again I had the luxury of playing all six previous FE games prior to FE7 when they came out.

that new style is really pretty. but i agree it doesn't look like FE from what i've seen, and i've only just started getting into it.

but it's pretty and it animates nicely. fine with me.

Yeah, the GBA battle animations were awesome, and the DS ones look promising. The GC and Wii games animation are so stiff, I still dont understand why they didnt make them smoother. But hey the games are really enjoyable :-)

Meh IMO animations are one of the least important things to Fire Emblem. I usually turn them off after the first couple chapters.

* Class Swap: A new feature that allows players to directly change a character's class. The character's Level and Experience remains the same, but their other stats (such as HP, Strength and Skill) can change, as well as their weapon proficiency. There seems to be a limitation to how many of one class you can have, so don't expect to have a full army of Myrmidons, for example.

That's how changing classes/jobs should be on almost all the games...

Class swaping?

so what's the timeline of this game again, where does it fall in the series?
