Firefly Online (iOS/Android online RPG) announced at SDCC 2013

Ugh. Been waiting for years for a Firefly RPG... and it's ends up being a fucking tablet game.

Words can't express the disappoint. Only interpretive dance will do.

First this was mobile-ified:

And now firefly.

Why?

I want to believe this is going to be good, but it'll end up poorly executed and nothing but a cash-in to try and bleed money from fans of the show.

Us Browncoats want a Firefly revival, just not in this form and without Joss at the helm.

This is pretty much my feeling. I'll hold out hope, but not gonna lie, it's going to have to be pretty impressive and not just a reskinning of something like Farmville or a similar game except in the Firefly universe. If there's a "Pay $20 to get a Firefly ship!" I'm out.

So micro-transactions and Pay-to-win most likely?

I'll download it more than likely but not expecting much

Not excited at all by this

A firefly game had such potential too sigh

FireFly was too campy for my taste so I didn't know what to make of it. I really dislike Joss Whedon's style. Hated The Avengers because of it.

Has the popularity of FireFly died down a bit? I remember there used to be posts on reddit about it making it to the front page almost everyday 2 years ago.
Whedon's style isn't camp but ok. Personally I love his style and the Avengers was better for it. But I get that it's not for everyone.

HYPED with getting the chance to mack on Kaylee and Inara...then I saw mobile. Crushed.

Still, I'll probably borrow someone's tablet for this just to try it out.

Gotta say, If i were ever to describe Firefly to someone, "Campy" would definitely not be the first adjective I used to describe it... Buffy on the other hand I could see, but not firefly.

When I think camp, im thinking satirical, stereotypical, and over the top and I didn't get any of that from Firefly.

Sigh. We were so close, too. Sorry, but my mobile bias is still too strong to give this a shot. Maybe it will be good and GAF will convince me otherwise after it releases.

A Firefly RPG?!? I'll be in my...
Firefly Online (FFO) is a multi-user, social online role-playing game that will initially be available for smartphones and tablets, includingthose based on iOS and Android operating systems.

Reavers.

In any case, hope it turns out ok.

The website is still being updated pretty regularly, and they're continuing to claim that they're launching in the summer of 2014 on Windows, OS X, iOS, and Android. But there has been zero pre-order information and zero gameplay footage. So I'm skeptical.

Anyone have any info?

Yay for the Firefly IP, but I'm not enthused about mobile. I hope it's good.

Babylon 5 space combat/4X hybrid game next please.

It's a tiny indie studio, I think part of the problem is people expecting a $100m dudebro action game.

Nah I think people are just expecting a decent game from the Firefly license, how does that equate to people wanting a dudebro game?

It's just a case of a beloved IP being used to sell a game that would likely go under the radar otherwise. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you do indeed play with people's expectations when you do that.

I'm trying to watch this show. I'm 5 episodes in and I can barely tolerate the campiness and the badly shoehorned cowboy aesthetic. I'm hoping it will enhance my enjoyment of Serenity, but I'm about to give up on this plan.

I'm a fan, but I would advise to see it through. Some of the best episodes are in the 2nd half of the series, imho.

I'll give it a fair shake, my expectations lie somewhere between 'iPad time waster in bed' and 'quite alright' so we shall see.
