Firefox overtakes Internet Explorer as Europe’s dominant browser

I'm sceptical of this. My site - 1m+ visitors a month - is still 70% IE, 12% Safari, 11% Firefox and 8% Chrome. And we're targeting high-spenders.

I'm convinced these stats are skewed toward high-volume users or a certain "techy" segment; I've not once seen a consumer site with browser usage consistent with these numbers.

People browsing from their offices? I'd guess most offices use IE.

I just wish that most of these browsers gave me more customizability. I want more vertical real estate available, but I have plenty of horizontal space because screens went from 1.33:1 to 1.78:1 (or 1.6:1 in the case of my home monitor).

I'm using Opera, because it lets me do the following:

* Have tabs along the right edge of the window
* Have arbitrary, collapsible panels along the left edge of the window
* Place all remaining controls (menu button, panel toggle, nav controls, location bar, extensions, img toggle, css toggle, fit-to-width toggle, etc) in status bar

There are other elements of customisability that I really enjoy having, but I just wanted to focus on the visual stuff. Top-edge tabs just doesn't work with my crazy browsing habits of "right-click on every interesting link and gradually read them as I go along" and "reading many-page forum threads on an ongoing basis". Beyond that, it's just nice to get every crucial widget as out of the way as possible but still immediately accessible.

Just for fun, I have uploaded a screen cap to make your eyes bleed.

I do like Chrome/Chromium, but it's only good for limited uses and to use as a crude web kiosk for guests logging into my computer.

Go Chrome.

Convert from Opera. Didn't look back.

By the time the main population switches a better alternative will already be available.

Chrome is pretty great I was never much of a firefox fan to be honest and in my experience when a site works in Chrome, Safari and IE you need to work at least another 2 hours to get it functioning properly in Firefox.

Stuck using Safari as my main browser right now as I haven't transferred Firefox from my external hard drive yet, but Firefox is still my favorite browser, mostly because I've found the most addons for it. All Chrome does for me is display the "Aw Snap!" page.

Yeah. Besides, in my book, Google is basically a James Bondian supervillain organization.

Stealing people's personal info with little cars driving all around. Pirating every book in existence. Weighing their own sites more favorably over competitors.

I use Chrome on both our machnes at home.

I use Firefox over IE at work, as firm policy allows for only those two as options.

I recently started using Dolphin as my mobile browser over the stock Android option.
