Firewatch launching on February 9, 2016 [PS4 | PC]

Ps4 2016 is insane and we still have PSX and PGW.

Amazing times for Ps4 owners, gaming has never been better my friends !

The whole industry feels rejuvenated and loads of cool shit is coming out everywhere. It's strange.

It's both ; there's a survival mode, I think, but the game has a storyline that supposedly branches out into horror or suspense. At least from the gameplay video released so far.

As far as the genre and tone of Firewatch, it's best described as a mystery/thriller, I think. It's not a survival game at all - there's no systemic food or anything like that.

Firewatch has a lot in common with adventure games (lots of looking at, poking at, and talking about stuff, with very fine grained dialogue trees that remember your choices as you play, and your uncovering of the story and participation in the story is the central driving element in the game), but it's also set in a contiguous interconnected outdoor world, which you slowly unlock and more efficiently re-traverse as you gain new knowledge and abilities (eg: climbing rope lets you clip into old anchor/carabiner hookups around the world to get down previous inaccessible cliffs to new large areas of the map). A thing that I hope sets Firewatch apart from other similar "explore a space" games is that you are a participant in events that are happening inside the timeline of the game -- it's a mystery story that involves and hinges on you being there when you are -- and is not entirely focused on picking through the ashes of "what happened in this place long ago." A "first-person modern adventure game in a contiguous outdoor space" is very accurate, so don't expect a Miasmata or Metroid or something, but do expect a game that asks more of you than walking through its contents in a line.

Sounds really interesting. Looking forward to the release.

This is seriously one of my most hyped games. The artstyle and storytellingn look fantastic.

Also, I knew it was coming to ps4 but I didn't know it be released the same day as on Pc. Nice

This would be awesome to have in the OP. This is perhaps the first I've heard of some of this. I haven't watched the 17-minute video trying to avoid spoilers though.

I just happened to check the Campo Santo blog and saw the news. I've been really excited for this game ever since video first surfaced for it. I can't wait to fully immerse myself in the world and really take my time soaking up every bit of it.

Along with The Witness, another one of my most anticipated games, 2016 is starting off with a bang!

Good. I'm tired of these narrative-focused games that feel like archaeological digs.

Really excited for this game. I missed this thread before. Glad it is coming out before a crowded March. Have they announced a price yet or game length at all?

Oh man, The Witness and then this right after? It's going to be an awesome few weeks, I've been looking forward to these games for quite a while.

Maybe I missed it, but is this game retail or digital only? Doesn't really matter, I'll be getting it regardless, but I was wondering.

It's digital only!

(I can't wait for everybody to see the care that went into this game. Every time I walk past our QA guys testing it I have to stop and stare. It's been a total pleasure to watch it materialize. Ok ok enough)

Nice, I always wanted a way to access my S3 buckets through steam.

Yes, to upload a file in Transmit 5 you simply login to the computer in your tower, print the file out, carry the printer paper through the forest, and deposit it in the correct "S3 Bucket" which is a bucket

(Sorry gamers you have entered the Panic software joke zone)

Thanks! I'll make sure to keep enough space open on my PS4!

HOW THE FUCK did I miss this?! Cannot wait until Feb. 9th. I hope they do well with this game. The passion this team has is unattested and I can't wait to see how much it shows.

If your friends don't understand your games hunger, are they really your friends? We're your friends. Shhhhhh.

Edit: will there be a PS4 theme with Olly Moss artwork? Please make a pre-order theme with Olly Moss artwork. I'm begging you.

Oh man, I want this too!!! Nothing to announce on this yet, though — current focus is on finishing the durn game. We'll see what we can pull off between now and ship. I'll keep you posted!

Do we know what the price will be yet?

We have not announced the price yet.

I suppose finishing the game is important.... Thanks for the reply. Hope everyone stays sane. Last few months of production must be crazy times.

I can't get over how much they nailed the aesthetic every time I see the screenshots for this. I'm all over this just for that alone

The Witness in January
Firewatch and SFV in February
Uncharted 4 in March
Ratchet and Clank in April

ooo boy

my wallet is going to be burnt to a crisp in 2016

Is it safe to say it will be in the $20 range?
