Being a cop is for power thirsty dumbass drop outs.

So is being a soldier, but they get to satisfy their bloodlust and power hunger on foreigners already.

Oh, wow. Never noticed you before, but this post and the one in the Hinkle thread mark you as a poster to watch.

Thanks.

Just so you know, this is very offensive.

Those 'power thirsty drop outs' make our neighborhoods and cities safer places to live every day, and the way people treat them is disgusting.

The way they treat some people is disgusting too. Don't make them out to be above criticism, despite his hyperbole.

The evidence for this is what?
mormon church has some deep pockets. look at all the money they dumped into california to defeat prop 8. wouldn't be that surprising to see them dump a bunch of money into romney's campaign.

i think more and more americans are waking up to the problem, but they find they have no real options anyway. plus old people will probably never hear this story and they vote more

lol, lol, lol, lol, don't get all sentimental now. they're a racket like any other institution in America. In the case of the OP, the political and economic institutions are so far corrupted that they are essentially one

As long as corporations have all the privileges of personhood, with out he responsibilities, shit like this will continue.

lol. I don't even like Romney, but whoever that is in audience is a moron. He's dismissing an obviously true premise because he doesn't like the conclusion, apparently oblivious to the fact that not all invalid arguments have an invalid premise.
Which part of Romney's argument is true?

The reality of a presidential election is that as time goes on, crazy skeletons do come out of the closet for the candidate, whoever he or she may be. But this is just mild compared to what's gonna happen between now and Nov 2012.

corporations are run by people and the profits go to people was his argument. what's good for corporations is good for people.

or if you want to get technical about it, US law defines corporations as people.

Thank you. You also highlighted the bit that gets people. In that sentence 'people' doesn't mean 'all people'. What's good for corporations is good for some specific people. Mostly, the people that compose that corporation.

The real complaint should be over inequality. Rich people throwing money around is troubling regardless of whether they do it through corporations or do it directly themselves.

Seems shady, also isn't Obama going to have the biggest fund raising campaign in history? I read somewhere that he plans to collect $1 billion for his campaign. To me that seemed a little excessive..
Jesus himself would need to raise that amount of money because our system is so fucked. And also becaues he looks muslin.

Public-funded elections are a quick way to root out corruption in the political process.

Everything is one big special interest now.

Jesus is too big of a hippy socialist to get elected by the religious right.

Publicly funded elections need to be looked at if the US is going to have any hope of getting out of the cycle of shit it is in.

And national primaries. None of this Iowa/SC/NH choosing candidates nonsense. Have them all on the same day and make candidates campaign nationwide.

No, it makes more sense to give inordinate power to corn farmers for some reason.

Why do you think that is?

Speaking as a vet, I dont think the military would, either. I do not think the police would think twice if ordered to do so.

That's why the police and politicians always go hand in hand.

My father has always told me when the cops openly start doing the politicians' bidding, watch out!

how does the US legal system allow "ghost" companies to be set up and have no info on those companies.

there must be a list of directors, financial statements, etc

That information is only public if the companies are public (i.e., shares in the company are freely traded). They must file with the state though, but that's still not "public" in the sense that it's not disclosed to the public.

wow.

all companies in Australia are "public" in the sense that "all" information is public domain.

Ok, in another thread earlier today I offered an exchange of a 1 week ban on my account in exchange for a 1 week ban on the other poster's account (for a stupid post he made on Gaming-side).

I wish I'd made that same offer for this guy. What a chode-like thing to say.

This is the sort of thing that WikiLeaks and Anonymous need to devote themselves to for the next year or so. I wonder how much uproar there would be if it actually turned out that it was a church trying to circumvent the rules?
