First Assassin's Creed 3 DLC announced

This "alternate game world" type of DLC (see: Infamous FOB) is not a annoying as the DLC we see from 99% of other games.

Washington was an unengaged and generally reluctant president, who basically viewed his role as a shepherd to the new nation more than anything else. The idea that it "could have went the other way" is not a simply what-if, it's an entire re-write of Washington's intellectual/practical role of the revolution not to mention his personality.

Exactly. There is no "if this had happened, maybe Washington would'v-"NO. No, it wouldn't.

Oh wow you get to kill George Washington? Premise sounds cool honestly.

But fuck this season pass bullshit. 30 dollars? Fuck off DEVELOPERS, not just Ubi. Or publishers. Whoever is in charge of it. I ain't paying 90 dollars at launch for one game, basically.

Isn't that the point though? This is a complete reimagining of almost everything. More creative freedom. Not correctness.

Then create a new character? Or use some other figure? This is about a great man's character being turned upside-down, and for what?

Laugh. Out. Loud. At people being more upset about season passes and on-disc DLC than the misuse of George Washington. Unbelievable.

I hope you end up battling Washington on a high tech Apple of Eden powered airship, which you then punch him off so he falls and gets impaled on the already constructed Washington Monument (which Evil George obviously had built as soon as he took the throne).

IIRC, the apple of Eden can corrupt anyone with its powers, so i think they'll use that excuse to do it.

I really don't have a problem with it, as long as it's not implied that he could've done it in reality.
If you have a brain you will understand that it's complete fiction in the same vein as Lincoln riding a bear and other Internet-style college humor.
The picture in the OP is absolutely silly, so it's not meant to be taken as a serious "what if" like a "what if Hitler had won WWII?".
Despite what the Press Release may say.

I don't know if you guys noticed that Apple of Eden in his scepter. You know. The artifact that tends to turn the most altruistic people power hungry.

Come on. This is an alternate reality within an alternate reality. Nothing to get your panties in a twist over.

Imagine if they did this with
the pope
.

Hey congratulations, now you know what watching Braveheart is like if you're English.

IIRC, the apple of Eden can corrupt anyone with its powers, so i think they'll use that excuse to do it.

Washington lacked the structural standing within the framers (what I mean here is that the framers were mostly intellectual titans clashing forcefully to come together and build the systems of American governance, and Washington was not an active participant in that process, which actually made him an ideal candidate to be the first leader, but a very poor candidate to try to influence the course of American destiny on his own) and the fledgling system of checks and balances such that even if he had personal motivation to abuse power, he wouldn't have emerged victorious.

Now if you want to make Washington a cartoon and say he used Apple Space Lasers to blow away everyone, fine, whatever, but that's not reflected in the framing of the announcement, which implies Washington as a generally rational and autonomous actor corrupted by the allure of power.

Unless I can grab it cheap like Revelations, $32 on release talking to you Amazon =), then I think I'll be waiting on the Gold/GOTY/"We're done nickel and diming you this year" version. While I know this won't stop the majority of gamers. The smart buyer will obviously just wait it out for a more complete version.

Wow the game is not even out yet, fuck I am getting annoyed at this practice.

Yeah, it IS a bit shady to announce DLC before the game is out, even if the content is already in development.

Show the main game off some more guys, no one is buying this just for the DLC later on.

That's what the Assassin's Creed series is, despite Ubisoft circlejerking themselves with their supposed accuracy.
I mean anyone remembers the ending to AC2? Where you
fistfight the pope
?

They seem to be making a big deal out of their storyline, but it's really just trashy conspiracy theory Alien stuff, you either enjoy it as that, or you're gonna hit a wall with its logic.

George Washington had flaws, you are making him out to be a god. Did you know he tried to get a slave of his back forcefully?

Who cares? Be it Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter or King George of the United Kingdom of America, it doesn't matter. It's fiction. Freedom of thought and speech are basic tenants of this country, and he surely wouldn't be against those.

Just like anyone should be free to make Jesus look like a stoner, or depict Muhammed in any way they like.

This is one case where the idea of "Don't like it? Don't buy it." actually fits perfectly.

Mind you, I'm not particularly interested in the DLC myself, but that image is amazing. Worthy of a political cartoon really.

Any President Trembley DLC? Washington was a jerk anyways.

8½th President is Best President!

And how to forget mabel US congressman!

Imagine if they did this with the pope.

Do you realize how false this comparison is? Are you just being a butt? There was more than one pope, and more than one American historical figure/president. Some of them were good, some of them were not. We're talking about the best one, in this case.

Hey congratulations, now you know what watching Braveheart is like if you're English.

Are you comparing an actual "king" with a man who would have never let someone ever call him "highness" or "majesty"?

What's interesting? Please, elaborate on how you're clearly missing the point. Not liking this depiction of Washington is not the same as not being able to handle the idea that some of my "ancestors" were shitty people. Washington wasn't the only American, you realize? Just the best.

I also wouldn't want to play a game where I assassinate Gandhi. Does that mean I can't handle the sight of my non-ancestors being killed in assassins creed loltaku?

The fact that you can't see the flaws in these historical figures does a greater disservice to the men they were then anything in this DLC. Even Gandhi had flaws, like doing many sexist things.

I wish more people knew about the Newburgh Conspiracy and how George Washington ended it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newburgh_Conspiracy
I hope morons don't play this and feel like there is some truth to it.
You're worried about people thinking there might be truth to it in a series that has Leonardo DaVinci building flying machines for assassins, where you fist fight the Pope, and where the human species is created by (and are somewhat descendants of) alien Gods? REALLY?! Are you serious?!

All of you complaining about Washington's character being besmirched or altered are forgetting: truth is nothing, everything is permitted

goes for devs too, apparently

That's a mighty fine subjective, unquantifiable, opinion you've got there.

Idolizing any man is ludicrous as we're all flawed. Clearly there have been better people than others, ones worthy of praise to be sure, but that hardly makes them impervious to fault. Not to mention that this is yet again a case of creative freedom, not satire, criticism, or any other form of character deconstruction.

They're having fun with a silly idea. God forbid we allow that.

Who in the world would pre-order a Season Pass?

Don't want to be caught without one when the game drops. They might be sold out of them. I cant enjoy the product I just bought without knowing that I can get selected content that they release as/after the game comes out. I am sure everyone is the same. You should probably pre-order just to be safe.

On a serious note I on principal will never buy DLC or seasons pass. Expansions yes, but something they announce before the game ships needs to stop. If they have something ready for launch of a product and it is more than just hats or outfits and it an actual mission or game play segment then it should have been in the game to begin with. I dont care if they budget this separately it is a shady operation. It gives me a negative connotation of their product and business practices. Whether this is the correct way to think is a different debate but it is how I feel and I am showing them that by not participating in it.

Who cares?

Me. Obviously.

Be it Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter or King George of the United Kingdom of America, it doesn't matter. It's fiction. Freedom of thought and speech are basic tenants of this country, and he surely wouldn't be against those.

I knew this would happen. People always do this.

NO ONE SAID UBISOFT CAN'T DO THIS. They totally can. It will be huge. Great job.

I am saying I won't support it and I don't like it. "Don't like it, don't buy it," is exactly what I'm doing and I'm explaining why.

You can still buy the main game, him being a bad guy will only be in the DLC.

You just put more thought into this than anyone at ubisoft did.

Who says I can't see flaws? Who said I thought they were perfect? And I certainly don't think of them as "gods"; I wouldn't insult Washington by calling him a "king," let alone a "god."

I just think they're better than men who pretend that if they existed in those men's shoes, they would've been so much better.

That's a mighty fine subjective, unquantifiable, opinion you've got there.

It sure is! It's almost like I'm on a forum where we discuss those! Boy do I feel dumb!

but now I get to play the game alongside him knowing that he'll betray me

fucker

I think what they are doing with this is that it is similar to "What If" stories in comics. I think the game is going to tell a complete story. This DLC is just a fun add on that isn't going to be considered canon.

Isn't the season pass priced a little high?

$30 dollars is like half the price of the full game.

Seems like the piece of eden corrupted his mind. I think you could say it's a "what if scenario" in terms of what kind of power he could have acquired, and not based on his character.

I want this to be on the AC3 title screen

WARNING: Assassin's Creed 3 was created by a multi-cultural band of developers across a variety of countries, all of them with different religious and spiritual beliefs....Except Free Masons. Fuck Free Masons.

I'm just joking Duffy. I get your point and it's your right not to buy the game. I'd probably be annoyed if this was actual canon stuff. I'm just saying this is probably some throw away DLC missions to justify a $30 season pass.

Your level of investment in his persona makes it hard to discuss it, but i don't understand your metric, by which is not ok to joke around with certain historical figures, while it's ok with others.
If anything, i would say that it's more ok to fuck about with characters like George Washington (or Gandhi), that everyone in the world knows far too well about, than with a more unknown one, that risks to have its facts muddied up with fiction.

That's the point though. You guys are over thinking this, it's just a bit of fun.

Games aren't even released yet and publishers not only announce that they have future plans but also present them in detail already

What the fuck is wrong with gaming today :lol

People expect a ton out of games. Games have massive budgets and teams and can take years to develop. A million-seller is considered a failure. Pretty much if you don't plan out this stuff as a publisher, you're doing it poorly. It's just a mess overall.

Who says I can't see flaws? Who said I thought they were perfect? And I certainly don't think of them as "gods"; I wouldn't insult Washington by calling him a "king," let alone a "god."

I just think they're better than men who pretend that if they existed in those men's shoes, they would've been so much better.

Then why are they above being satirized and fictionalized? It's usually gods that are treated so highly that you are not allowed to say or do. Your feelings on the matter are very similar to zealous religious types who get offended if their god is depicted in such a way that offends them. Are you so unsure about Washington's character that you believe that an alternative history dlc will change peoples perception of him? Your line of thinking is why Washington is so mythologized and no longer seen as a flawed human being that he was.
