First batch of Mortal Kombat dlc revealed

The article makes no mention on when this DLC will be released. Just says "post release".

Motaro and Kintaro are different guys. Motaro had his silhouette shown on a gametrailers preview and was teased by Boon. It was assumed that he might have been DLC but since this is the first DLC it is likely he is in retail.

Man, I would be super impressed if Motaro was in the game at all. The MK team couldn't even get him working right in MKA, so they had to do that retarded goat man thing.

MK9 has more kontent than any fighting game except Smash Bros. Brawl.

Griping about DLC characters is like getting angry over the fact that the hundred toys you have are inadequate since there is a one hundred and first toy you don't have.

I think he'd merely be an unplayable boss and be immune to X-Rays and Fatalities to accommodate his shape.

Which is fine. Ideally for me, Kintaro and Motaro would be the unplayable cheap bosses, whereas Goro and Shao Kahn are balanced and playable.

But here's Kintaro as DLC, so we'll see what happens.

Cannot be quoted hard enough.

Can we get back on the subject instead of having to read the same old tired arguments from 2005 from the same brokeass losers who complain and post dozens of posts about an optional 5$ purchase?

Well if Shang Tsung can transform in this game I don't see how Motaro would be so hard for the MK team.

Yeah, but MKA sucked. :P

So far we've only seen him transform into the character he's fighting against.

Random note: How cool would it be if we got THIS Kintaro in the game?

Midway was broke when MKA came out. No way they had the resources to animate a 4 leg character plus doing it in 3d would be difficult. I don't think it poses the same problem on a 2d plane.

I hope Motaro's X-ray is just a regular skeleton, to piss off GrayFox even more. :p

Kintaro is cool.

I'd like to see Frost to be honest, it's easily one of my favorite female character designs in the franchise.

Frost was tons of fun to play as, as well. I hope we see her come back in some way shape or form.

I just watched Motaro's MKA ending on youtube and a few things:

1) the reason behind him only having 2 legs in canon is that his people were cursed to havnig 2 legs instead of 4?

2) were all the endings in MKA just random footage of the character practicing their martial art with a text story overlay?

And don't discuss it at all, ever. Gotcha.

FFS. This is the internet. Hell, this is NeoGAF, dude.

Where did I say not to discuss it? I said if you like it and enjoy it, talk about it. If you hate dlc and don't, just hush it.

1. Yep. They admitted it was the excuse they had to create, to have him in the game, since it was the only character that would've been missing from the roster.

2. Yep. Team didn't had time to even have bios for the characters. They planned to put them online on the website; but couldn't.

All endings for the Arcade-like mode. It had an action game mode with actual cutscenes though.

I haven't played an MK game since Mortal Kombat Trilogy on the PlayStation. Since I'm not familiar with any characters after the first three Kintaro is the only one I might want.

I was going to pass on this game, but I think I might give in to the hype.

Seriously, I CANNOT stand this. I mean, it's great that they are going to be putting out DLC. But how about we release the game first? It's just a peeve of mine.
Errr, the game was likely finished at least a couple of weeks ago. More likely a month or two depending on how long they had to go through certification. Throw in a couple of weeks for manufacturing and then a week for distribution to retail.

Assuming it's not one of those "already on the disc" deals, they likely have some people working on the DLC now. I see nothing wrong with announcing DLC plans that were likely planned well in advance, especially when the game has been final for a while.

While I do agree that DLC can be about ridiculous, there have been many times in which the service has been welcome.

Ninja Scooter said:
Would it honestly make you guys feel better if they just announced this DLC a week after the game came out? Ignorance is bliss? I don't get how that is so infuriating. DLC is planned from the early stages of a games development and included in the budget. Just because it is developed simultaneously or even on the disc and available for unlock doesn't mean you should get it for free.

Dude, gamers have a huge sense of entitlement....if it was up to them, they would even want AAA games for free....

TruePrime said:
I think the big difference here is Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are two seperate products, and you don't need one to have the "Complete" experince of the other.

Where as MK 9 or whatever games does this, is still MK9 just parts of it are sectioned off.

Don't get me wrong, if people want to support this kinda stuff then I'm not going to attack them for it. However I will never give a developer money for something that is sitting on my disk and they locked away with a code.

If they want more then my 60 dollars or even more for Special Editions, I will give that to them for work that didn't go into the body of the project and is what I feel already paid for when I purchased that disk. To me any content that is on the disk i should have a right to.

Is this case? No, and I don't mind that some people are cool with it, but I won't personally support this.

What does it matter though? whether it is on the disc or not, they werent going to give it away for free anyway. So if indeed was on the disc and you were going to buy it, you were going to have to download it, and if you weren't, then you aren't going to see it anyway....

I wonder if it will be Capcom style $4.99....
I hope all the people bitching about the DLC for this game were up in Marvel threads bitching about DLC for that game.

There better not be a single hypocrite in this thread riding MK's ass when Marvel (and even SF4) have been doing the same thing (and worst) with their games, with arguably less content on the disc.

Marvel 3 had 8 stages. 8.

MK9 has over 20.

DOA4 would like to have a guffaw with you, everything on the disc was free of charge to boot.

pretty sure they bitch in every DLC thread. I think their browser has some sort of plug-in that automatically detects when a thread with the letters "DLC" is created so that they can copy and paste the same old complaints.

Except this dlc isn't on the disc...dumbass.

Did I hurt your feelings? I'm sorry. Regardless of weather or not it's on the disc, it is content made before the discs even finished printing. It'll most likely be on the disc to save money from having to upload to XBL and PSN servers.

Not his fault for you making a stupid analogy rofl

Goro, Kintaro, are they really that different? The other two characters aren't that great either.

Guess I should be happy that Midway (or should I say NETHERREALM) saved the B-teir fighters for the DLC. I'll be cool with the main game for now.

Remember paying $60 for DLC to unlock 4 characters that were already on the cart, and a few extra costume colors and speed settings?

street_fighter_2_II_turbo_snes_box_art.jpg

This is why I didn't bitch about Blazblue DLC. I figured $27 would be less then what I'd pay for it in the PS2 era, let alone the SNES era.

As for MK, I like the roster they have now- MKI-III chars, Quan Chi, and no fluff. They really didn't need to add anyone.

As for those DLC chars- Kenshi is one of the few good post-MKIII chars, Kintaro- meh, and Skarlett- who knows. Whether I buy or not will depend on how I feel about the game. I'll be getting this, but I know there's a good chance this game will be garbage.

SFIV DLC I skipped on cause it was just costumes, and you couldn't buy individual costumes- you got stuck having to buy packs of chars you don't like.
Marvel DLC I skipped on cause I don't like the game, getting rid of it once MK comes out.

I'll spend money on DLC that's worth it, though I worry about far in the future when things aren't supported any longer. I'll probably be too old to play fighters when this gen of consoles gets killed off like the Xbox1 did.

The other issue with DLC chars is tourney legality. I wish they were banned, as to not force people who want to be competitive to buy the characters.

It's an accurate analogy though, regardless of where the content is(it's most likely on the disc since Lupinko leaked it a month ago). DOA4 has more content than MK9, so far, and it was all for free.

I bet there are people already bitching that rain isn't on that list.
Don't care for kintaro, he is a boss in the game though, wonder if the playable one will be different for balance reasons.

I can't believe "lady in red" still doesn't have a name yet, and she still is wearing ridiculous shoulder pads.

Kenshi is cool I guess, though a bit to much like ermac.

I would have preferred robot smoke.

Why are you spreading propaganda? You talk like this shit is certain, because they announce who is going to be in the dlc does not equate to them already being "made". Not in my mind anyway. Your last sentence is a real head scratcher, save money from having to upload to the servers? Dude what.

Edit - where the hell is rain? The red chick can fly a kite for all I care

Since Kenshi and Lady in Red can be seen in the backgrounds of the Pit and the Arena

Im going to assume that:

Frost
Li-Mei
Kira

will also be DLC since they were also in the backgrounds of the Pit and the Arena

Because I want you to buy bonds. Propaganda, lol?

Content was leaked a while back. There's already a plethora of content being locked away already. It costs money for publishers to put games up via servers. If they use less space via unlock keys, they won't have to do it through content updates. It's not a fact, but it's highly likely and realistic that the first batch of DLC is already on the disc.

Is it possible that Lady In Red is just an already existing character making a bigger, better, redesigned return? Hence why she hasn't been named yet?

Sareena? >_>

My memory may be a little fuzzy, but while DOA4 had a good amount of content, i wouldn't consider it it tons, much less "way more" than MK. If anything, both would be pretty similar.

The (MK) game has over 25 characters, 20+ stages, some characters have 1 alt costume, others 2, others have 3 alt costumes. Unlockable fatalities and other -alities, pictures, videos, illustrations, renders, a lengthy/cohesive story mode, 4 player local tag-team, Challenge Tower with 300 challenges, the slots which add variation to the matches and the list goes on (Tests, Ladder Mode, various Training Modes..and the multiple online and offline modes).

To all that, they will be adding 3 more characters after release (no date). But some are making it sound as if the game's lacking in content, when can be easily compared to the games with the most content, and even exceeds a few.

And the only data in the demo was Kintaro's bio/ending. And even those included "BUG ME" descriptions, meaning that were not final. Skarlett and Kintaro were mentioned by lupinko as characters. They has been working on those characters, but at the moment there's no trace of those being on the files. Maybe on the final release, who knows.

Doubtful at the moment, but maybe they'll work something to make the character "bigger" and cause a bigger splash. Like Kitana not being in MK3, then Sindel turning out to be her mother.

Skarlett and Sareena can be seen in a few backgrounds, each wearing their respective clothes.

So far in this thread I've defended the right for NRS to make DLC (posts #94, #118, #140) but if I were to argue against it... it would be... hey guys, you need to save *something* for the sequel!

I'd rather have a sequel with Rain, playable Kintaro, Frost, Kenshi, Bo Rai Cho, Havik, Shujinko, Onaga, etc than get everyone now for DLC. At most I'd say throw in MK4 characters (other than Kenshi) in DLC packs for this game, and then next game could take the core Deception/Deadly Alliance roster and then add the missing characters from MK9 via DLC.
