First console and PC game you played ONLINE ?

FLEoa.jpg

Was a buggy mess. You'd constantly not be able to complete a level because an Alien got stuck in a wall. Was still awesome. We played it 24/7.
Ah a fellow Gamestorm user! Been awhile but I remember playing that game forever - was in the [K] squad. My brother was always alien and I was always marine and we would yell at each other across the hall.

Anyway my first PC online game was Duke Nukem 3D and it was fucking awesome once I figured out how to configure everything properly. Followed by NetWar - which was pretty cool for its time.

PC - Command & Conquer: Sole Survivor

I don't remember much from it other than the SSM launchers were OP as shit.

Console - Quake III Arena (Dreamcast)

by 'online' does direct dial modem stuff count? if so, Doom. if not, Quake.

on console... Mario Kart Double Dash using Warp Pipe, i think.

remember when us evil PC players invaded your dreamcast servers? ah, memories.

PC: City of Heroes (2004) - not only was it my first online PC game, it was the game that got me into PC gaming period. And for that, it will always have a special place in my nerdy heart.

Consoles: Call of Duty 4 - part of me will always question whether or not getting into online shooters on consoles was time well-spent. That said, CoD4 in it's heyday was an absolute blast to play. At least its PC community is still thriving.

pc would be some bbs thing, I can't remember the names. quake was the first I remember well.

console maybe GTA iv? don't do a lot of console gaming online really.

I was kind of late to online gaming.

For PC I it was an Unreal Tournament game. Console was Halo 3.

Suffice it to say the perception I had from two decades of only local mp that I was actually good at gaming was immediately shattered upon playing online.

Quake or Quake 2 was my first online game but I can't recollect clearly.
I can clearly recollect playing CounterStrike Beta 4 in summer of 1999.

First online console game would have to be Socom US Navy Seals on the PS2.

First online handheld game was either Mario Kart DS or a PSP launch title, whichever came first.

PC: Doom on a 33.6k modem against my friend who lived down the street. I think this was '96 or '97.

Console: Chu Chu Rocket on the Dreamcast. My gateway drug to class A PSO.

Fun thread!

Console:
Dreamcast mother fucker! Bought the thing on 9/9/99 with like 5 games.
The fact that you could control your player during the "cinematics" was amazing. Pulling a late hit in this game was one of the best things ever! I remember playing this online with TheMissingLink and Depward and we were down by like 30, we missed a field goal late in the 4th and the announcer said, "He missed the kick AND LOST THE GAME!" It was hilarious!

PC:
Airport and the road! Loved this game!

Does Doom 2 over modem count?

For consoles, PSO (Dreamcast). It was a miracle that it ran so well on 28.8 dialup, but I have many fond memories of the game. Not too interested in the sequel though.

But yeah, thanks to said dialup internet I generally shied away from online PC gaming until ~2002 when I finally got broadband. I stuck to LAN parties and such in high school. I did play quite a bit of mechwarrior 4 online though, it ran pretty well on dialup too.

PC:

Consumed my existence for a while there. Used to play for an hour or two at work, and then some more when I got home where I'd crank the volume, blast music and unleash doom upon everyone. Those were the days.

Console:

I sucked horribly and brought defeat and humiliation to my teammates. Especially so if they were unlucky enough to provide me the opportunity to drive a tank. I'm still working through this trauma in therapy.
