First console you payed for your own money?

3DS. I'm sure I could have gotten stuff as a kid but I was always stingy with money. That's why I haven't owned that many systems.

First system I bought was the N64 in this bundle.

Best $150 I ever spent.

n64 here too though not that bundle.

It was the 360 for me, I camped out at Walmart with a tire iron and a wad of cash waiting for that awesome, and soon to be defective, console.

PS3. Got the Slim for $300, but soon after I traded in my PS2 and all of its games. That was an awful mistake.

PS1 but that was due to trading in my older systems and gift money for the difference. Dreamcast with Soul Calibur with co-op money when I went to university.

Playstation 2 (2003).
The PS2 was about R$ 1200,00 (U$ 400,00) at the time and I've divided the payment in six months (R$ 200,00/month).
The first payment was with my first paycheck in my first internship. ;-)

Techically the Playstation 1 but I also bought the Sega CD and 32X (addons) on my own. My parents stopped buying me game systems after the SNES/Genesis, everything since has either been purchased with my own money or gifted (or some combo of the two).

NES. I even have a newspaper article from a local tournament where it talks about my mom making me use my own money to get it at age 8. I'll see if i can find it.

Found it!

Full article, holy 80's batman.

My parents were always hard nosed about buying video games, I remember walking away from Final Fantasy 3(SNES) when it first came out over $4.

I was only about 13 when I first got an Xbox, so had the folks pay for that one.

360 was the first console I paid for with my own cash.

The original GBA at launch with Super Mario Advance and F-Zero. Plenty of yardwork and snow shoveling went into saving up for it.

Playstation 2.

I got a summer job at Jamba Juice that year to pay for it. I kept working because my school hours fit perfectly with it, and bought a Dreamcast when PSO launched as well. It was also the first time I got to buy whatever launch games I wanted and I blew a lot of money on crap. And DVDs, haha.

lol in that article she called it Adventures of Bully Bayou lol

First system I paid for myself was a PS1 in 95 I think...Whenever it came out. Battle Arena Toshinden sold me lol

With money out of my own pocket it was Dreamcast. With the money I got from selling my SNES, Genesis, and games that my parents bought me it was PS1.

Does birthday / christmas money count? I saved up for an N64 for over a year when I was ten and eleven.

With my own money? All of them. I left home at 17 back in '79 and have been paying my own way ever since. Bought a NES for the band in New York that first Xmas Nintendo had them in America and have owned every console sold in North America since (along with a handful of Japan-only ones)...

N64. Well, technically my brother and I split it.

GameCube was a gift, so the first system I bought entirely with my own money was the 360.

My "own" money in the sence that I got it from my mom every week for doing chores, saved it up and bought a Sega Master System. It had a Batman game that played kind of like Bionic Commando, was freaking epic!
