Looks great for EA work. Lets hope that it's 60 fps.

Oh did I forget the :lol

Only one on one fights? No sale. I love those 2 on 2 matches me and what's his name kicked ass....

How does it look bad? FN2 for the PS2 had weak people in the background.

The Good: The wrestlers.
The Bad: The crowd. I'm not expecting the same quality as the wrestlers, but putting them that close to the wrestlers is a huge clash of aesthetics.
The Ugly: One on One matches only. WTF?

Yeah your right. The crowd is too close. I think they should have less amount of people in the crowd too.

So let me guess here: this is going to be a near perfect port of Def Jam Fight For NY with visuals that match that of the PS2 and gameplay to boot. However, it would take about 3 minutes to load matches as opposed to 30 seconds and it's going to have awkward contols. Oh, and it's going to cost $49.99 while the PS2 version has already hit greatest hits status and I can pick it up for less than $20...

Seriously, I'm ready for some original games here...take an existing property if you want, I don't care, but at least give us something fresh. Blah.

Jesus christ, there are so many things wrong here my eyes crossed.

Is there anything new in the game? I already beat Def Jam FFNY on the ps2, then got bored with it... I don't see why anyone should play the same portable and downgraded game again .
Looks good graphically though..

karlikk, I've never played it before but I'm not usually attracted to shallow titles like this when I'm at home, I prefer online rpgs and larger scale titles.

But I'm out on the road and feel like a 10 minute bash though I reckon it'll be perfect. :)

It's a shallow fighter, if you compare it to titles like tekken, soul calibur, street fighter, etc. that's why you get bored after some matches.
Let's hope it has multiplayer, cuz that's what got the most out of the game [imo].

wow, this was a must buy for me, but perhaps now it isn't since it is limited to 1on1 matches. I already have my smackdown as well...I loved the battle royals of the old def jam game... I think I'll just put the money toward Street Fighter Alpha 3 max, and the new def jam on Xbox 360. Looks like I'll be giving Fight Night on PSP a bigger look as well.

Meh, at least the PSP ports come from a current generation console.

Could be worse I suppose, replying on N64 and GB ports and whatnot.

I think playing crippled ports for current gen titles you could play at home at the same price is much worse.

A game about hip hop thugs fighting in the streets? Keep still my beating heart ...

I weep for this world.
As opposed to what? Games involving green skinned dinosaurs, tiny dewey-eyed cartoon elves with brown boots and tight buttocks, or fantastical lands filled with collectable gold coins and tasty gumdrops?

Your bias is showing. Badly.

Same here. Good thing the PSP generally has great ports of current gen titles, then.

Yep, there are gamers who don't give a fuck about the setting if a game is good and there are Nintendo fans.

did anyone play marvel nemesis on psp? this game was just horrible. dont expect def jam to be any better.

Nemesis was horrible on every system, including consoles. The Def Jam games are atleast good on consoles.

Vice City is one of my favourite games. I love Halo, I enjoy Killzone, I play Counter Strike for hours on end, etc etc etc. Other than that, sure, I'm biased in that I'm more forgiving towards generic Japanese pop culture than I am towards generic Western pop culture. Here's the reason. Asian pop culture is basically harmless. You can say a lot of things about it, but it's not geared towards hurting other people. Big plus in my book. Western pop culture currently has a strong lean towards things that glorify violence and crime, and it's not fantasy crime, it's realistic crime and violence. Something is seriously wrong with going in that direction if you ask me, so I speak up against it.

I could have put this more eloquently, but I've been at work all day and you get my point.

TEEHEE!

I'm no Nintendo fan. Never was, probably never will be. I was basically just commenting on what I consider a very unfortunate trend. See above.

So you hate realistic crime and violence, yet have no issue killing, murdering, triggering gang wars, engaging in hit-and-runs, witness intimidation, extortion of businesses and the promotion of pornography in Vice City. Or shooting people online using quasi-realistic weaponry in Counterstrike for hours on end. But throw into the mix hip-hop thugs punching each other in the street, and suddenly the world is going down the shitter?

Right. You're a hypocrite.

I don't hate realistic crime and violence. My problem is with the popularization of street thug culture. A culture where it's cool to be the bad guy. That said, triggering gang wars, intimidating witnesses, extorting businesses and taking on a horde of swat/terrorists isn't something that's really a part of pop culture or something that's attainable by your average Joe. Getting a tribal tattoo and beating someone up after dark is. What's more, it's currently being made to look cool. Being the bad guy is cool. At least in your average, fruitily generic Japanese game, however much violence there might be in it, it's about the good guys winning. Those who fight to stop people who threaten the safety of others.

Anyway, I didn't list those games because I condone what goes on in them, I'd be quite happy to see future sandbox games a la GTA stray from the crime formula, I listed them to let you know that I'm not at all biased in a way that prevents me from enjoying a game with violent, Western content.

Basically, I'd just like to see Western, and particularly American, because it's so influential, culture go back in a direction where being the good guy is cool. I think society needs it.

But hey, if you want to believe I'm just a Japanophilic hypocrite and dissect my words to make it look like that's all there is to it, so be it. I've stated my case. I'll make sure I don't fire off potentially inflammatory one-liners in future Def Jam threads, though.

Oh and also, I really just think this game looks kinda ass :P

I'm curious do you even KNOW the storyline to Def Jam FFNY?

Trust me, you were doing better when I thought you were just a Japanophile. That culture where it's "cool to be the bad guy" is front and center in Vice City, one of your admitted favourite games. I guess that only applies in certain situations and for certain people. My bad.

And obviously you haven't even played the Def Jam Fight For New York game, or you'd realize that the storyline reflects the values you hold oh-so-dear. So not only are you a hypocrite, you haven't done a modicum of research into this thug culture game which is threatening America's youth. Well done.

They really Really REALLY should NOT have done the crowd at all.
Would have allowed for better looking stages and shadows on the characters that aren't an embarrassment.

I can only assume you haven't read or understood my previous post. I clearly say I don't think what goes on in Vice City is positive. That doesn't hinder me from acknowledging that it's brilliant game design.

You're absolutely right, I haven't. Like hundreds of other gaffers do every day, I commented on a bunch of screenshots. So shoot me (and most of the forum).

I looked it up, though, and it looks like I was fairly spot on when judging those screenshots.

In story mode, the game continues from where Vandetta left off with D-Mob, ruthless crime lord and whoop-ass condeseur, being 'escorted' in police custody. A one-way trip to the pen is cut short when a mysterious character (you) plows through the squad car, freeing D-Mob.

The ruthless gangster D-Mob has escaped from police custody and returns home to find his stranglehold on the New York underground fight club circuit threatened by brutal newcomer Crow. As one of D-Mob’s crew, it’s time to step up and take Crow down. Succeed and the world is yours.
If you call that the good guys winning or being on the good guys' team, then it's no wonder we're not seeing eye to eye on things.

Anyway, you seem quite set on how you want to percieve me, and I'm fine with that. At least, I can't be bothered to spend more time debating it. Not because I don't think it's interesting, but because I've been as precise as I feel should be necessary for people to understand what I'm talking about and because we're past the point where further input is likely to result in any major output. I can sleep without everyone agreeing :)

And if you actually played the game on the PS2 you'd know there's another level to D-Mob's character(at one point one of his subordinates wants to resort to gun violence to solve their problems), D-Mob absolutely positively refuses and even IMO gets a bit preachy about it.

But you wouldn't know that because you've already made your incorrect judgement call on what this game is about. Which certainly isn't to say this is some holier than thou game.

You should probably leave this thread and just go beat some more hookers with a baseball bat.

IF I'm understanding you correctly:

Street Thug Culture = Bad
Mob Culture = Good

WTF?

what a, uh, interesting thread

Anyway on topic: Def Jam is pretty fun, but, I don't think I'll hop onto this version. My next Def Jam game would be the next-gen version, probably. It looked pretty nice in the GI shots.
