Except Cross chat.

I like how the "DOES EVERYTHING" pic above lists a bunch of stuff except games.

bitter much?

Wii doesn't do cross game chat either... do you shit up wii threads with this?

I think the " it does everything" concept was a bit more appropriate for the original ps3.
Yes, the new unit is slimmer, cheaper, has bluray, and all the other nice things... BUT it lacks the initial ps2 BC. And that's a big deal for a lot of people. So yes, to me, the slogan is kinda off. They need to focus on the price, new form factor and bluray capabilities and leave that "everything" bs out.

Regarding "EVERYTHING", I sort of miss the SACD support. It would have been cool to check out some really outrageously high fidelity record at some point. As a mere bonus, it's nothing I'll ever invest in a separate unit for.

Haven't seen a vid (if there are any yet?) but looks pretty swish.

SCEA engaged a new advertising agency a while back didn't they? I remember seeing a thread on GAF. I assume this is the fruit of their efforts.

Good stuff.

Yeah, I think the first ad that firm did was the the one with the commercial with the "BOOM!" and all the black gooey stuff forming into various games - great fucking ad. I'm not sure if it's the same firm, but it looks similar to their style.

Aside from PS2 BC, the firware updates have added TONS to the PS3 experience. I'm actually surprised someone hasn't come in with a "What about Hulu!?" jab.

The blue text on that JPEG cycles through:

BLU-RAY
MULTIPLAYER
ONLINE
FREE DEMOS
WI-FI
FAMILY GAMING
EPIC FUN
ALL-NIGHTERS
EVERYTHING

There are some others in the grey text that don't get highlighted, such as DOWNLOADS and HD. There might be a few more in there, but I can't make them out.

It's like they made the first one for interwebs detectives.

There's supposed to be a third one aswell...something about a granny hogging a gamer's PS3 to watch blu-ray movies.

Excellent ads! :lol

First one clearly says.

Games.
Blu-ray.
Everything.

So ppl can stop complaining that it doesn't say games. :p

They should really make use of the face buttons in their marketing like what they did in Japan. The different shapes and colors are catchy enough to get anyone's attention. They look fun as well which is what the PlayStation is supposed to be.

I can't decide between them. Both are excellent.

The rumor monger in the first. 'Confirm or deny' and 'Can't hear you part'. :lol

The second one with the unsatisfied girlfriend and Kevin Butler agreeing, his voice tearing up. :lol

I think the second ad is clever in that if you looked out at the userbase right now, it wouldn't surprise me if there was significant portion who'd never gone onto PSN - so as well as promoting to newcomers, the ad might also prompt interest from existing owners who didn't check in online. I know that was certainly true of my brother, he didn't go online with his until I prompted him to when I visited.

However I do think it's a missed opportunity that there was no mention of membership being free or of free online play. I know they were more pitching it at things a 'girlfriend' might be interested in, but still. The ad would have been that much better if they hammered home the 'free' point.

Pretty decent ads. Perhaps a little too focused on people who would already know a lot about the PS3 for its humor to work...like, it's totally aimed at internet dwellers.

Here are the commercials

The rumor monger one is awesome.
Nice, both ads are spot on IMO, they actually got a smile/chuckle out of me. Especially the "What is this, 1992??" line.

Hopefully they pump out more of these, and still stay on track of not being funny/entertaining for no real reason, have an obvious point behind it all.

Not only are the ads themselves great, but the ending sequence/slogan etc is all better than I would imagine coming from SCEA, honestly.

PS. Added to the PS3 slim OP. :D

Total 180 coming for Sony on their marketing. Whoever thought of these ads deserves a raise. Both of them are quality. :lol

freaking awesome ads and the japanese palyface thing is great too...wow sony well done !

oh and i really like this japanese robot voice :D

The ads are awesome, I laughed at both.

PS2 BC is the only part of "Everything" I can see any joe-consumer backlash over, and hopefully they'll come with questions regarding that before they spend the money.

The MLB 09 The Show ads were awesome and went over really well. Glad to see Sony recognized what worked and went with it. Both of these ads are really well done. The second one is secretly inventive as well.

Looks like they made a great decision firing their previous marketing group. It only took them 2 years to do it.

First one great, second terrible, yay opinions!.

I unno, I see a bit of dissonance there. The only ones who actually care about "everything" or even half of it are techheads savvy enough to know whether or not they want a PS3.

Haha, the rumor monger is wearing the keyboard cat Three Wolf Moon shirt! :lol

Sony is absolutely redeeming itself. :lol

Anyone else find it funny the actor who plays Kevin Butler has a different job title in every commercial?

MLB The Show commercial he is the director of Game Accuracy. 299 PS3 ad he is Director of Rumor Confirmation. In the PS3 girlfriend ad he is the VP of Enough is Enough. Quite clever. :lol
