First Forza 5 Direct Feed Gameplay: Bernese Alps

I wonder if this is replay footage, actual 60fps gameplay footage we've seen so far does not have any motion blur, but this video does.

Anyway, good on Turn 10/Microsoft for releasing direct feed video of the game. Maybe they liked what Evolution was doing? :P

Just downloaded/watched the Direct Feed from MS. It still looks like a great racing game. You can tell it's not finished, though, due to jaggies being apparent. Honestly, it doesn't look any better than that other racing game. I'd say both are pretty close. The other game wins in terms of lighting, imo.

Still patiently waiting on some 60fps 1080p goodness from Blim. I feel like 5 will be a great addition to the Forza series, but 6/Horizon 2 is when it'll really start coming through as a graphical powerhouse for the Xbox One.

Do they keep the HUD up and stuff like Good Turn during replays?

I remember the last day-to-night transition video of DC had people making fun of the aliasing on the car. Now what?

I think F5 looks fine to me..although I'm not a racer kind of guy. Bought GT5 and had fun but was never serious with it.

I asked this before but wasn't sure if it was accurate since I haven't followed the game all that closely. If it is a replay, it would explain why the video is 30fps.

The car's dynamic self shadows are rendered separately from the pre-baked environment shadows, and it doesn't require the environment to have real-time lighting. Even xbox games had dynamic car shadows.

Whatever's going on, I'm content being ignorant of the little details on how it's doing things, so long as it produces an end result that I find visually pleasing.

Sometimes when I see people doing things like comparing angles of the sun and shadows, etc, that's all a bit much for me lol.

Why is the video 30 fps.... Incompetent shits.

LOL wow. I literally said this earlier in the thread. How bad can they be at grabbing video to show off their games. :P

I'm getting an Xbox One and Forza 5 on day one, but if someone told me this video was captured from an Xbox 360, I'd believe them...

Watched the direct feed, 30fps and no AA. Hardly representative of the full game.

You sure about that? It's the first direct feed footage they have ever shown, and we are getting close to the end of development...

Very sure. For a start it's time trials mode, historically T10 always bumped up the AA for one car on the track (on 360 remember), due to the freed up resources, this would also remain true for FM5.

Also I have seen lots of footage (offscreen but great quality) from the Laguna Seca track at Gamecom which had full AA during a race, it was clear to see. You don't just remove it. It's clear there is NO AA in that direct feed. T10 would never release a Forza game that looked so shoddy. So I'm confident it's another scaling issue (like we saw from the Twitch stream) or something else. Besides, 30fps isn't a great way to show of your game in the first place.

What...

So you are claiming this is an older build than Gamescom because you can see aliasing in a direct feed video and not in an off screen?

Please tell me I'm reading this right GAF.

Exactly.

Probably going gold in the next weeks. Don't forget though, you have to download like 80% of the game anyways since it's not all on the disk, lol.

Absence of perfect image quality doesn't mean there's no AA at all. Apparently you don't know what a game with no AA at all looks like, either.

Yep. There's for sure AA in that video. DriveClub had some aliasing on the car as well.

Guy on reddit who played it at the Boston event said AA is off as of right now.

That makes 0 sense.

According to what I read the Laguna Seca demo was pre E3, and it was clear from the 1080p footage that it had great AA (no perfect though) during a race with many cars on screen, as did the footage shown at E3 and all of that was before the upclock. However, my overall point is I don't think this direct feed is representative of the full game in terms of AA, no more than the frame rate is. You can believe different though, I'm not stopping you.

The demo actually crashed horrifically for Dan while demonstrating it at the conference today, so an AA glitch wouldn't surprise me at this point, so it may be near release but it's clear they had issues with the build for Eurogamer Expo.

hard to tell anything from that YT video. For pushing all this 1080p/60fps talk they do an awful job of actually giving you a reasonable representation of what you will see. I only want footage of what this actually looks like. Not hard to see where some of the "this looks current gen" comments are coming from with those ashy looking YT videos. It is almost 2014, why is a good quality direct feed so hard to come by?

In the interests of fairness. I've had a look at the video on the MS.

Plenty if jaggies all over the car and also the railings.

The reflections on the carbon fibre look pretty good though.

All in all, distinctly average.

Yup, played it! It looks waaaaaay better then Forza 4. Not even a contest.
It does have jaggies in the demo version due to the anti-aliasing not being implemented yet. Final version won't have that issue.

That's what I thought.

Is that the motion blur washing everything out? Logos, spectators, text... everything?
EDIT: On second thought, maybe it's just the fact that the cars are moving.

If AA is not implemented, then what the hell did they use in E3 demo?

Prague and Laguna Seca, not the Alps track.

Due to the way the game crashed and everything was a bit sketchy, I would suggest T10 have been working real hard to finish up before release and that they didn't have time to optimise a build for Eurogamer Expo, Dan said it was actually made on the day.

Ideally you wouldn't show a 30fps feed off either, makes no sense.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you implement AA solution once, not by track.
