This is the Guardians I grew up with. Which is why I was so shocked they're doing a movie about them. I wasn't aware they basically rebooted them and gave them a raccoon.

Major Victory is part of the 2008 GotG this movie is based on as well, although it doesn't seem he will appear in the movie. Yondu (also a member of the old original team) is in the movie and may be playing a similar role to what Major Victory did in the comics.

This trailer will likely never get an official release; Marvel will want the first trailer to include footage beyond the first two weeks of filming. Not to mention they'll need some Rocket Raccoon dialogue.

Winter soldier will definitely have its first official trailer on Thor. I don't think they will wait for Cap for Guardians though. Super Bowl is my guess.

Maybe they are using a similar plot like I the comic. Except Yondu is coming from the future instead of Starhawk.

Gunn confirmed in the past he was a huge fan of the 2008 series and wrote the film with those versions of the characters in mind. The plot is not a lift from that run but the characters should be closest to those (which is also pretty apparent when you look at the cast and character designs they are going with). Abnett and Lanning also visited Gunn and consulted with him on the movie.

Even though the plot is definitely different the prison lineup thing seems very similar to how the team was forced together in Annihilation: Conquest as well, just under different circumstances and by different people.

Not all of them look straight human or human-esque anyways. Thanos and Groot would be two examples from this movie that are clearly not that. There are quite a few more though that exist in the universe and I am sure we will see at least some (like the Badoon).
