This is going for a completely different market compared to Sky Captain, that's probably not a good comparison. This is a kids movie through and through, while Sky Captain didn't know what the hell it was. Can't wait to see the Hot Wheels line they put out, I have a few from the last line and they're pretty cool (though I dont think it was the hot wheels brand).

While GRRRR Racer X pic looks gut wrenching, the race scenes looks absolutely insane. Being a huge Speed Racer fan, I can't wait to check it out. It's great to see someone make another attempt at reviving the franchise.

that's some BS if the mach 5 gets destroyed. who in the hell wants to see a movie about the mach 6?

People who don't know shit about Speed Racer who think it looks good from the previews or who enjoyed The Wachowski Brothers previous work?

Or people who aren't <Boston accent>fuhkin' retahded</Boston accent>.

Lulz whats up with the crazy scheme of the movie? The original cartoon always felt downtempo and a little bland (and a good way). Going in such an opposite direction turns me off right off the bat.

Just saw the trailer on Entertainment Tonight and it looks pretty interesting. The story seems a bit 'meh' but the visuals look pretty damn sharp in motion. There were a few parts where it kind of had that 'dude standing in front of a green screen' look but other than that it looks pretty cool from a visual stand point. Hopefully the trailer will make its way online soon.
Just watched the Youtube link and... why didn't they make it CG?

Allright, I just figured out the value of this film. I'll go to see it, but I'm going to shout out quotes from Days of Thunder and Talladega Nights just for the hell of it. This part?

Am I the only one who sees that as a perfect time to shout quotes from Ricky Bobby's first meeting with Jean Girard? :D

Now imagine a scene where someone crashes, and imagine me shouting, "He didn't bump you, he rubbed you, and rubbin', son, is RACIN'!" :D

Time to brush up!

for some reason it reminds me of spy kids.
The character and interior design looks like Robert Rodriguez's "Shark Boy and Lava Girl" meets "Cat in the Hat" WTF were they thinking?

However it looks like they nailed the racing, and that alone will be worth the price of admission.

I have absolutely no interest in seeing this movie in theater, but I can't help but think it'll look sick on Blu-ray/HD DVD.

:Speed Racer is driving the Mach V with a big-ass Fig Newtons sticker on the windshield:

Speed:This sticker is dangerous and inconvienent, but I do love Fig Newtons.

Okay, I gotta watch Talladega Nights again... :D

That trailer is the worst movie of the year, IMO. That two minutes annoyed me more than the entirety of Transformers; a feat to be sure!

...wow, guess I'm clearly in the minority, but I thought the trailer looked pretty awesome! :D
I'm psyched. The way how the special effects make it look more like an art than reality make the movie stand out, imo. It is cartoon in real life style. Much better than The Grinch or The Cat in the Hat, imo.

So far, I'm with the people who think this movie will be good, cheesy, fun. Not a day one for me, but based on that trailer, I'll likely check it out with some friends.

I just watched the trailer. That movie looks really horrible. Too bad MST3k is gone. This looks like it would be a good movie for them to watch.

These screenshots look like a rainbow barfed on the movie screen and all over the real film.

Wow....not sure what I'm seeing here, or if I'll like it :P

I hope somebody punches you in the back of the head. :D

I just watched that high quality trailer, and damn! I thought the idea of a Speed Racer movie was cool and hearing the Wachowski Brothers were doing it with some new filming technique got me interested... but now I'm hyped. Looks awesome!

At the very least this will be a damned fun trainwreck. Here's hoping it can do better than that, but still, I'm so there. Too many cool experiments going on to pass up.

Some really freaky focus work going on, which could either be a neat or perhaps too baffling for people. There are shots where the focus is only changing in certain parts of the screen.

"He's gaining on you so you better suck some dicks, he's busy revvin up the powerful Mach Six!"

Reminded me of the Sponge version of the song
Which actually was pretty horrible.

But that then reminded me of the Sublime Hong Kong Phooey
from the same CD, which was fucking awesome.

edit: Just watched the trailer and I've gone from "meh" to "LOL, best train wreck ever. Day one!". It's going to be horrible but seriously how can you pass up the crazy visuals, john goodman, roger allam, christina ricci, and richard roundtree in one giant clusterfuck of willy wonka, b movie camp, wachowski machismo, and shitty ricers.

Did someone send them the Jetson's collection instead of Speed Racer for research?

Jesus tapdancing christ, that looks so god damn far from good as to require a whole new word to describe it.

I'm all for this movie, but that CGI looks really, really bad. I'm all for trying new things and art styles and shit, but it just clashes and stick out so poorly from the rest of the film. It looks almost as bad as the CGI in the made-for-TV Sci-Fi channel movies.

Now, if a competent team had done it? Like ILM? And they did all the crazy effects and zany camera work, but made it look... like, somewhat real? That would be fucking incredible. I fully understand they're going for a unique look but the Bubble Gum CGI really kills it for me.

But... it has Mathew Fox...

wait where have you seen this?

here's a clip with matthew fox: http://youtube.com/watch?v=r-A-MyCjk_g.

that scene where the pic is from looks hilariously bad. :lol

i doubt i'll pay to see it in theaters, but it looks like it's worth seeing for the Wachowski's direction. i love the use of whip pan shots and the saturated color palette. It's a little disjointed in spots, with live action next to what looks like scenes from Cars.

Sounds like a tilt shift lens. i only saw the Youtube version. i'll have to check out the posted HD versions to really tell.

If you guys think that looks bad, just wait til you see the Robotech trailer! :lol :lol :lol :lol

Last I heard, it's all done in post. I love this live-actor/green-screen/HD-cam movement happening. I think it's where you'll see some revolutionary work done in the medium.

You kidding I can't wait to see the dbz movie trailer when it finally debuts. :lol

I don't know what some of you guys were watching, but that trailer certainly looked like Speed Racer to me.

-Hilariously bad dialogue and acting
-Over-the-top racing scenes
-The way everything is played to be so serious
-Sprittle and Chim-chim getting into trouble
-Those little paddles that make the Mach 5 jump

I mean, that's Speed Racer!
