First iPhone 5 screenshot of Real Racing 3

Graphics is nice for a phone, but I won't see myself playing a racing game on a phone using touch controls for more than 15mins. It will be so difficult and annoying =/

now I wonder if Cave will be able to port new games on iOS especially with the better specs iPhone 5 will have. I want Saidaioujou on iOS too!

You'd be surprised... they think the AF and AA will be extremely high just like those obviously bullshit "screenshots."

Don't know why people are doubting it. I just tested Real Racing 2 HD to compare and it looks as clean as that screenshot on a retina ipad.

the video of the game (and the screenshot) showed a lack of effects (only a little smoke), no shadowing in the cockpit view, almost nothing with alpha in the environment (no trees, no bushes, crowds etc) it looks like the cars don't shadow each other, and they avoid showing the cars going into shadows (like tunnels or overpasses) no full screen effects, and no environmental fog.

on the plus side they got cubemaps and the cars at least shadow the ground.

"console" quality.

whatever.

Until iOS devices get some actual buttons they should just stick to those flash like puzzle games such as Cut The Rope. In it's current state the iPhone is a better torch than it is gaming device.

Real Racing plays fine to me.

It's funny how willingly people still accept bullshots.

(And lambast any current-gen game that is advertised with real framebuffer grabs, while at the same time claiming that the games they are actually playing "look much better on their TV")

Show people one nice bullshot and they buy it. Especially when it's coming from a cell phone (everyone knows those things have almost catched up to consoles!) and doubly so if its from Apple (what with their magic custom A series SoCs).

I love playing driving games like this. It's so real.

Funny you say that, there's a million other people love too!

I don't think it's a bullshot. Either way, the 'Vita is dead' comments are a little premature. It's important to remember that a tiny, tiny percentage of iOS games will look this good, whereas almost all Vita retail titles will have graphics of a similar level.

It's nice that iPhone 5 has the capability of displaying visuals of this quality, of course - the better the tools, the greater the possibilities. But you're kidding yourself if you think this is going to be representative of your average iOS title from now on.

Truly? That shot in the OP looks supersampled from the equivalent of 5k resolution or so.

I dont get whats impressive about phones getting close to seven year old machines especially when they retail for 600 without contracts
I think it would be quite impressive if they were getting close. They aren't. The GPU in the iPhone 5 has roughly 15% of the peak performance of the Xenos GPU in one of those 7 year old machines.

Some of you guys are really funny. Especially the ones who think that image is not a bullshot. Ah, the ones who think that iphone5 can be near a vita gamewise too.

Take a bullshot from wipeout 2048 and compare it to that image to have a rough estimation of the differences that exist between the two devices.

And steering control via giroscope ... the new definition of input lag.

What can you say on the same subject about the Vita? If the Vita is "almost" a PS3 and the new iPhone has only 15% of the current-gen consoles power, then the next iPhone will probably trail behind the Vita for quite a large margin...

Or not?

The iPhone 5 and the Vita have the same basic GPU design, except that the latter has dedicated VRAM (and maybe some other small improvements). It's not "almost" a PS3, even when adjusting for rendering resolution. Just take a look at Uncharted GA and Uncharted 3 side-by-side.

To be fair, the SGX chips are more efficient than the old GPUs in current consoles, but not to an extent that makes up for the sheer difference in power (also literally!).

Don't let a small screenshot fool you. Current gen HD consoles kick the shit out of that game techwise.

I fail to see how this is relevant to the discussion. It goes without saying that consoles are more powerful. I mean, duh.

i'm not speaking about raw power but the ability to bring current console like visuals to smart phones. The smaller screen definitely helps and the casual market won't be able to tell the difference.

Gran Turismo on PSP already feels wrong to me without any analog input for the accelerator and brake pedal. No buttons at all and tilt-to-steer for a "realistic" racing game is a joke.

That looks like something Sony would try doing with the sixaxis lol

On that note, I'm staying out of these iOS threads unless it's the OT. This hate is ridiculous.

Also, lol at all the people saying "what not even native res?!?!" The Vita doesn't run many games at native res, and neither to many of your consoles. I don't know what you're trying to achieve here.
